Sci-fi is a very polarizing genre at times. You have those that want something deep thinking life topic and others that just want entertainment. I’m also enjoying the squabble over $3 and $11 donation.

In reality you should end up watching all of these. Very differently movies but all pretty great. At least the ones still in the running.

I honestly think 2001 would be a bad choice for a reaction. The movie is such an immersive sensory experience that I don't think it would lend itself to minute-by-minute commentary like that.

Patrick, I’ve watched a few reactions to 2001, and they were great. And you don’t need minute by minute commentary. As one reactor noted, the silence, the long periods of movement gives you time to just appreciate beauty. Beauty is not appreciated much any more. Our society expects noise, busyness, bludgeoning the story over our heads, and we can’t recognize and appreciate beauty in its quiet simplicity. I quote a reviewer: “'2001' requires you to watch in a different way than you normally watch films. It requires you to relax. It requires you to experience strange and beautiful images without feeling guilty that there is no complex plot or detailed characterization. Don't get me wrong, plots and characters are good, but they're not the be-all and end-all of everything. There are different KINDS of film, and to enjoy '2001' you must tune your brain to a different wavelength and succumb to the pleasure of beauty, PURE beauty, unfettered by the banal conventions of everyday films.”
