Ok remember this is only POLL A, there is also a POLL B (go vote on that as well) The top 4 from each will go to the champions poll in 3 days.

Ok first off this was a hard category because did there have to a detective? cops? lawyers investigating ok? Would it best be saved for a courtroom drama poll? (A Few Good Men) Heist Poll? (Heat)  Mob Poll? (Goodfellas)

In the end after taking your suggestions, cross referencing with internet best of lists, consulting with friends and checking with movies you had sent these are the two lists I came up with!

Also of note these are the ones I have already seen: Se7en (going to do a re-watch with Carly if she will agree), Knives Out and Clue. For the channel I have watched Prisoners, Silence of the Lambs and Fargo!

Chinatown deserves more votes, but maybe that's because it's from the 70s. Also Pelican Brief deserves more, but as I recall it didn't get much attention at the time.

Recommending movies was the easiest part. Deciding which one to pick is the hardest, but there's a loophole. You can checkmark all of them.

I feel like I'm on a jury LOL Untouchables has 383, and the Usual Suspects on the other poll has 395. Are at least 13 of you willing to "un-click" the Usual Suspects so Untouchables goes in to the lead? No intimidation here, but I mean Untouchables has Kevin Costner :)

And having Kevin Costner makes it a "must see"? Kevin Costner is one of those actors who is always Kevin Costner. He doesn't portray anyone else very well.

BD Williams

Witness, Vertigo, Zodiac and Chinatown are all timers. The Usual Suspects has a fun ending but IMHO that film is overrated...Also, Maunhunter and Red Dragon are the same story. When you eventually get to these films, please pick Manhunter, it's superior in every aspect.

@David Martin Like Nicolas Cage! LOL I'm not saying it because I like Costner, only because Cassie does seem to like him a lot. I'm sure to her it's a selling point.

any time someone says any part of manhunter is better than any part of red dragon I feel they have to be trolling. Manhunter is all played out in static wide shots without and excitement or urgency. Its just dull.

GamerGal8684

Ugh. Red dragon in this list? Make me cry already. The only properly placed actor is Sor Hopkins. The rest are… they don’t feel like they belong in the movie

I agree that the Usual Suspects is over rated. Zodiac is so good because it is based on real events. Love true crime and Zodiac is one of the best. I even visited some of the crime scenes in Napa and SF. It gives you chills.

Keaton always said, "I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of Him." Well, I believe in God, and the only thing that scares me, is Keyser Soze.

Celeste McAllister

Yes on the "Mob" poll may I suggest repeat the existing polls from time to time.Godfather,Good Fellas & Casino are at the top of a lot of lists..

One type of film, I have noticed missing from your explorations are foreign language movies. I recommend subtitles as opposed to dubbed as bad dubbing can ruin a movie. I am sure my fellow members will have plenty of suggestions in this area. I have four from around the world to start you off. From France, you need to watch "La Femme Nikita" (1990) which spawned an American remake and two TV shows. A great Hong Kong flick is John Woo's "Hard Boiled." Robert Rodriguez's directorial Debut "El Mariachi" is a low budget Mexican film. And we shouldn't ignore the biggest movie industry in the world, Bollywood. "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge," a romantic comedy musical which has been playing in theatres since 1995 and is one the highest grossing Hindi films of all-time.

Gideon James

Every movie on the list is better than The Usual Suspects so of course it wins.

Christopher Carr

I think the category is way too broad. The category noir detective would take up almost half the films. As good as it is the Untouchables is not noir it's a period cop drama. Here's the definition of a nor film ; film noir, (French: “dark film”) style of filmmaking characterized by such elements as cynical heroes, stark lighting effects, frequent use of flashbacks, intricate plots, and an underlying existentialist philosophy. The genre was prevalent mostly in American crime dramas of the post-World War II era.. I t actually began the 30s it also depends on an unsatisfactory 3rd act
