I loved loved this movie. Movies that can make you FEEL like that are just special. The fact that it was based off a true story is incredible and inspiring and it is amazing acting, directing, storytelling that can make you fall just so in love with this family in 2 hours. One of my new favorites.

She also reacted to Rush before this one. Which is another Ron Howard movie based on real events.

Oh, I've wanted this to happen so much! This may be my all time favorite sports film! Not just boxing. Cassie, since I discovered this channel and became a fan of you and the great work you do, I had hoped you would watch this film. I was sure you would love it and it would inspire a strong emotional reaction. It's good to be right but it's even better to get a hope fulfilled. Thank you for that! I saw this film in theaters in 2005. Coming off the great but depressing boxing film Million Dollar Baby (2004), this film was a breath of fresh air. To this day, it is one of the best and certainly one of the emotional experiences I've ever had in a theater. I had cried in a theater before but by the end of this film I was full on weeping. With joy. From an acting standpoint, directorial standpoint, storytelling standpoint and every technical standpoint this film is superb. But the thing I want to mention and praise is the beautiful, perfect, triumphant, and amazingly emotional music by the great Thomas Newman. This film has so much heart and Newman's score is responsible for a lot if it. Speaking of music, in addition to the Eminem song that Carly brought up, there is another song called Cinderella Man. The Canadian band Rush released a song called Cinderella Man in 1977. Anyway, like I said this movie has a big heart. As do you, Cassie. Which is why I wanted you to see it and why I knew you would love it. All the best to you and your family. Take care.

Jon Jon the Milkshake Man

If Carly is feeling nostalgic for "the Rocky days", as well as just movies about boxing, the movie "Chuck" (aka "The Bleeder" in parts of the world) would take care of that. The moderators were confused about this movie because it's easily confused with "The Brawler" which is another movie about the same man, so I hope that all got straightened out because "Chuck" is an amazing movie that I've never heard anyone talk about except for on this channel. And, without giving anything away, it has a strong connection to the Rocky movies.

TT

I'm with Cassie. I know Eminem, but I am not familiar with the song, "Cinderella Man." I enjoy when you do these together SO much. I love Carly! :) Belated Happy Birthday, Carly!

TT

Cassie, you sharing about the trials your family has endured- as well as the dire situation of your son(s)- was so very heartfelt. Thank you for becoming vulnerable and sharing your life with all of us. Things such as that vulnerability- in addition to you and Carly's authenticity make it impossible to second-guess my patronage of Popcorn in Bed.

Clay F

I had not seen this movie in 30 years. I forgot how good the movie is. Cassie: "Can't this just be over ... Oh frick. Make it be over." I know the punching was hard for you to watch. You have said since the beginning of the channel, you have a hard time watching people hit each other. You made it through and able to appreciate the movie. Thank you for your heartfelt comments at the end of the outro.

Eric Nathaniel

Does Carly ever cry? Lol. I thought for sure if there was a movie that this would be it 😆

Eddie Perkins

This is one of those movies that seems to get better every time I see it. I don't know how long ago you watched Million Dollar Baby, but I have nothing against someone rewatching a great movie, especially if they don't remember much of it. I know you saw To Kill a Mockingbird years ago, but that is another movie I would love to see a reaction to.

Matthew Dunham

I figured this be right up your alley. 😃

zynjams

omg omg i have been requesting this movie for so long

Sahitya

Didn't take me more than one viewing to for it to become of my favorite films, so underrated

Shawn Kildal

Sorry Carly, I know a few Eminem songs but not Cinderella Man

Alex Villarreal

This movie always reminds me of my mom. This and Seabiscuit were her favorites. We watched this one shortly before she passed. Have nothing but warm memories of it. Excellent movie.

Rosanne Stewart

Yay! This is one I've been hoping you'd do. Trivia: The woman who plays Mike's wife is the real-life granddaughter of Jim Braddock. Her mother is little Rosie. Now a perfect follow-up to this one is Seabiscuit, starring Tobey Maguire and Jeff Bridges. Same time period, same underdog story. YOU WILL LOVE IT.

Joe Mallard

Love this movie. I don't think I've seen anyone react to it before, so thank you!

John Cranberry

Excuse me Miss, you are supposed to watch Lethal Weapon 2 🤦‍♂️

Gábor Árki

Despite liking the "based on true story" sports movies very much as they often play on my heartstrings in the very best way, this is one movie I never got around to watching. Boxing is the sport that never really worked for me in any film so far so I was always putting watching this one off. But I admit Cassie's enthusiasm is making me excited to watch it finally.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Happy probably belated by now birthday Carly!! Hey how about a rewatch of Snatch with Carly, Brad Pitt + boxing? I think Mickey is one of his all time best characters. Speaking of quirky Brad Pitt characters, have to recommend 12 Monkeys, and True Romance, he's not the main character in either, and actually a very small part in True Romance, but those are both awesome movies.

G

It's just a great film. Please, please, please react to Seabiscuit with Carly. It's another great sports film.

Matthew Hines

I love this film, and James Braddock’s story is incredible. If you want to watch another inspiring, true sports story based in the Depression, then you’d love Seabiscuit.

Brad P

Happy Birthday, Carly!!!

Some people call me this the robocop of boxing movies

Ben Livingstone

Missed the director's name in the credits, but when I saw who the referees were, I was all caught up.

Wolf

i was importing my ratings from imdb to letterboxed. it crashed at 7k i only had 2 more k to go. ohhh the humanity!

Rob Harris

Another vote from me for Seabiscuit.

Ben Livingstone

In real life, Max Baer only killed one man in the ring. He sat with the man's family as they waited for the ambulance, broke down in tears at his funeral, raised money for his wife and children. The event haunted him for the rest of his life. To quote Max Baer, Jr. (Jethro on "The Beverly Hillbillies"), “The portrayal of my father in Cinderella Man couldn’t have been more wrong and inaccurate. They turned a good-hearted, fun-loving, friendly, and warm human being who hated boxing into Mr. T from Rocky III with no redeeming characteristics.”

Rosanne Stewart

Another thing is that Max Baer wasn't quite the villain we saw on the screenn. Yes, he basically killed two of his opponents because he had an incredibly powerful punch, but he felt horrible about it. Paid for funeral expenses and I think he paid for the college tuition of one of their kids.

Lamar Smith

Dearest Cassie, please check your messages on Patreon at your earliest convenience.

I was going to make the same suggestion. Another Great Depression epic I never get tired of.

zynjams

if youre going for some horseracing movies, Secretariat is a must watch and Let it Ride with Richard Dreyfus

Eric J Watkins

Speaking of Russell Crowe, have you watched "A Beautiful Mind" yet? It is a beautiful story/film, and based on a true one, and I KNOW you would love it. Thanks for your reactions! :)

Cliff Endicott

Really glad you liked this one Cassie - I have a few ties to it myself (on top of enjoying it immensely). I used to write for a website called "Cyber Boxing Zone" and one of the admins there was Mike Delisa, who wrote the book "Cinderella Man" that the built this script around. They also shot the fight scenes at Maple Leaf Gardens, and they asked for extras to come dressed in period attire to be "the crowd". I was there (in an thrift store suit and fedora) but I have never spotted myself in any of those scenes (disappointing :)). But they shot most of it in Toronto and they had a couple hundred yards of Queen Street (just south of Chinatown) made up to look like NYC of the era. It was all pretty cool ;)

Mingo Wayama

Happy birthday Carly. And thank you so much for giving us this wonderful present on your birthday. This may be my favorite film, and I'm so glad that you both liked it.

Brent Petty

Hurricane is a good one.

Catherine LW

So glad you enjoyed it. Good palate cleanser after Robocop, blech.

Neill Shaughness

I hadn't thought about the song when talking about the movie previously but I will from now on

Collar City Guy

My sister has a picture taken in 1935 at the Troy Boy's Club cut out of the Troy Record newspaper of our then 10-year-old father, may he rest in peace, meeting the champ as he toured Boys Clubs throughout the Northeast, and another picture of them when they meet nearly a decade later in the US Army on Saipan during WW II. Dad said he was a very humble guys willing to talk to anyone just like an ordinary Joe

Dave

First - Happy Birthday Week Carly! Thank you for being part of this channel, the best co-host we could hope for. You are amazing! Second- Great great great joy to find this reaction today! An excellent movie (they played Max a bit mean, though - a much nicer man than he was portrayed), this one should push all the right buttons for you both. Thanks for picking this one, Carly!

Charles Woolman

Happy Birthday Carly! Getting ready to watch the reaction and I feel like it’s my birthday too. I’ve been waiting a while for this one. It sounds like you enjoyed it…I had no doubt that you would.

Rick Williams

Happy Birthday Carly. Have fun on your trip. But, not to much fun. I want you to come back and react to more movies. Safe travels.

Robert da Spruce

Happy Birthday Carly!! 🎉 Sounds like you guy’s really enjoyed this one. Looking forward to watching your reaction!

Odd Thomas

Great, underrated movie. So much more than 'just a boxing movie'. Give it a day in court if you've not seen it.

Odd Thomas

Happy birthday Carly, you obviously have great taste in movies

My_Cousin_Mose

Happy birthday Carly! PiB would certainly have succeeded with Cassie alone but it would not be what it is today if not for your presence. The two of you have the best banter and I am always here for it. Thanks for picking this one, its REALLY freaking good. And no, I do not sing the Eminem song every time I think of this movie. But NOW I will think of your dancing every time I hear that song.

Bill Hayden

IMO boxing movies begin and end with "Raging Bull" Robert De Niro's greatest role

Mike LL

Happy Birthday, Carly! Special, speacial reaction. I know that Cassie was really connecting to it, really feelingit , and I was thinking at the end that she was crying more than we've ever seen before. It was all explained in the outro, and I think we have all had a special moment when a movie really struck home true to our lives. I think it was courageous for Cassie to put all the that info in the 2nd outro. Congratulations on such an excellent reaction.

Night King01

Paul giamatti in this movie was fantastic. I think he stole the show in this film. This was during russel crowes early years where he basically took over hollywood. Three Oscar nominations in a row.

Tim Raths

Happy Birthday Carly!

Odd Thomas

Craig Bierko is so great at playing villains: see also The Long Kiss Goodnight

Bill Hayden

Wow, what a grrreat reaction. You know, I didn't think that you two liked movies about men hitting each other. Yet there you are... Dukes up, bobbing, and weaving, throwing punches, and yelling "hit 'em" Apparently it won't be long until dogs and cats will be sleeping together. 😉 Again, thanks for the great reaction to this movie.

Ginko

Happy birthday Carly and thank you Cassie for sharing that 2nd outro. You are for sure an amazing mom!

James Leet

I just wanted to confirm that Braddock did pay back the welfare that he received because that is one of my absolute favorite scenes in this movie. It is one more piece of evidence for the character of this man. I really appreciated how you did recognize that him going to beg from the boxing agents was a sign of strength...to put his duty to care for his family above his pride. If you are looking for another movie with similar themes, I would definitely echo the recommendations for Seabiscuit.

Walter

Happy Birthday Carly! Such a great movie and such a great reaction. You should check out Warrior - Tom Hardy is amazing (when isn't he?) and Joel Edgerton (Uncle Owen from Star Wars) is equally fantastic. A fight movie with tons of drama and heart. Thank you for the great content!

Philip Alan

Thank you so much for that 2nd outro, Cassie. Thank you.

Andrew Ramos

When I got the notification for this reaction at work, I immediately pulled up Eminem and start listening to the song as preparation.

Cole Jennett
>>99302864

Exact same thought came to my mind. I was like oh yeah, Ron Howard did this😂

Uncle Phoenix

Oh My Gosh, that was such a great movie and reaction video to it. BTW. I loved your rewatch of the LOTRs with Car; and I would love to see you rewatch Band of Brothers with Car.

Johnny Liu

That second outro was heartbreaking.

Rick Williams

Great Reaction, Cassie & Carly to a great movie. You sisters did it to me again. You got all emotional and made me emotional. You ladies are hard on me. Thanks for the great experience. Okay Carly you can go on your trip. Just make sure you come back for more reactions. Cassie is great by herself. But, the two of you together is simply amazing and mesmerizing.

Jim Williams

"Cinderella Story" is the catchphrase that "Cindrella Man" comes from. It's a very old old cliched term for someone who goes from nothing to... everything... someone who beats the odds. And, no, I've never heard M&M's song. Not a big fan :)

Jim Williams

After hearing it... that's not a song... that's rap. (aka Skeltonic verse).

Jim Williams

"Tough time in the 30s"... my parents grew up in it. men would line up outside the fence of a construction site, waiting. When they saw the foreman come out with a pink slip, they would start climbing the scaffold to be the first one to the top and get the position. A drunk could keep a bottle of whiskey under his mortarboard because it made him lay brick faster (albeit sloppier), while if a man stopped to light a cigarette, he could be fired.

Jim Williams

The butcher has a family to feed, too. And that salami represented the money for him to feed them.

Jim Williams

After the 29 crash, the value of the dollar skyrocketed. You could buy a week's groceries for, say, $5... but nobody had the $5.

Terry Yelmene

Who could have imagined... two young, sweet, self-described lovers of only recent Ron-Com movies... finding and following the path of producing movie reaction videos... creating the two very best ever reaction videos... for movies about, of all things... 'BOXING'! IMHO, the PiB reactions for; Cassie's 'Rocky II' and for; Cassie and Carly's 'Cinderella Man' have NO EQUAL here on the Patreon platform. For me, these are quite simply, the Two BEST Movie Reactions EVER!

My_Cousin_Mose

Just finished and man this is what PiB is about. Thank you for sharing that story with us in your 2nd outro.

Canadianant

Great reaction ladies. Really a great movie and very heartfelt emotions . Your honesty is why I watch and you have great empathy. One of your best

fallout4

So glad you finally watched this one! Knew you would love it.

Jeffrey Smith

Great movie and another great reaction awesome ladies. It’s such an inspiring movie especially knowing it was based on a true story. Fictional movies can be very inspirational but for me true stories that illustrates that there truly is greatness in life move me the most. Have a wonderfully Blessed birthday Carly.

Catherine LW

This was the world my Dad was born in. Fortunately his father owned an auto repair shop so he always had work, and his grandparents lived on a ranch so they always had food. It was the city people who were on the verge of starvation; those who lived in the country could hunt and grow food. It sure was the Greatest Generation. I wish they hadn’t demonized Max Baer, who was a good man. Don’t know why Hollywood needs to do that, but it’s the only flaw of this movie. Love the chemistry between Russell Crowe and Paul Giamatti!

Robert da Spruce

Wonderful reaction ladies! I had seen this movie when it first came out. But I totally forgot all the details. So it was almost like watching it for the first time. I totally forgot what a good movie that was! I love your guy’s references. “Where do I know him from? Big Fat Liar!” “Oh. He’s from Legally Blond 2”. I was going to poke fun at you. But then I realized I knew exactly what you were talking about! 😂 Happy Birthday Carly! Have a wonderful and safe trip! P.S. Thank you for sharing in the second intro Cassie. You’re a good Mom.

Andrew Rose

Cassie this was an amazing reaction that you and Carly did. And your heartfelt 2nd outro at the end touched me deeply. Thank you for being exactly who you are every single day. You and Carly are wonderful bright lights during these winter nights!

Catherine LW

Ohmygosh, I watched the second outro and no wonder you were so emotional about this movie, you could totally relate. ❤️

thomas king

Cassie you will love Tin Cup. Kevin Costner movie. Cinderella Man was a Fantastic Movie. It got pushed aside when it came to the Oscars because Million Dollar Baby won the Oscar the previous yr. No way Hollywood would allow 2 boxing movies to win back to back years.

Walter
>>99370584

The Commissioner from Legally Blond 2 was also the sheriff in My Cousin Vinny!

Steve Holton

***WARNING: Some Spoilers Below*** Arguably filmmakers made an unnecessary mistake portraying Max Bear as a deliberate killer. It is clear Bear was deeply remorseful about the death of Frankie Campbell, and at worst Bear was a little irresponsible with his incredible punching power. A far better and more accurate story would’ve been to focus on how lightly Max Bear prepared for the bout with Braddock. Bear refused to train and completely underestimated the "Cinderella Man,” so Bear was much more like Apollo Creed than Clubber Lang or Ivan Drago. Unfortunately, the controversy over Max Bear’s depiction contributed to a poor initial reception for this otherwise great film. Russell Crowe, no doubt in a sour mood over the film’s debut performance, also threw a phone injuring a hotel employee during the opening weekend. An incident which may have increased public reluctance to reward the film. Sad because, as Cassie and Carly discovered, it is an affecting film with great performances.

Anthony Perez

It kills me that my father was 11 years old when Braddock made his comeback as "meat" in the ring. Both my parents grew up during the depression but, being kids of sharecroppers, I wonder how different it was than going through it in cities? Still hurts me to think of my Dad going through these kinds of tribulations.

Brandon

Highly recommend “warrior” and it even has Tom Hardy in it for you ;)

Tara

Happy Birthday Carly!! 😊

Tara

Cassie, I am so proud of you! I remember when I first joined your channel and watched the first few reactions and you were skeptical of movies like Shawshank Redemption going in. That “Cassie” who only watched happy movies with romance is long gone! I can see how much you have grown since you first started the channel and it’s so great to see. This movie had the whole range of emotions and hearing you say that it is one of the best movies you’ve seen on the channel just goes to show that you are not the same person who started the channel. It’s like what you wrote in the description, “Movies that can make you FEEL” That is exactly right. Yes, feel good happy ending movies are great, but it’s these movies that make you feel something and make you think that are truly great. I’m so happy to have been here for the ride!! 🍿

Erik Daniel

Happy Birthday Carly! And what a great pick! I think it's safe to say a lot of us were excited for this one. It was a pretty safe bet that this heart breaking, yet uplifting and inspiring movie was right up your alley. It was a joy to watch you and Carly connect with this one. I kinda forgot how many tears come with this movie though lol. The first half was sad tears and the second half was happy tears. Now off to watch Seabiscuit. I see a lot of people recommending it after Cinderella Man, and they are right Cassie. A very inspiring movie with a very similar heart. A short story to speak to that point --- When the dvd was released, a friend of mine was over at the house. All of the sudden while watching t.v., we heard shouting coming from upstairs. My Dad's booming voice yelling at the top of his lungs (along with the t.v. at full blast). When we muted the t.v. and listened close to hear what the heck was happening, we heard "Go Seabiscuit!!! Go go go!!! You can do it!!!!"

Joey

I will never forget the moment Art Lasky knocks his mouth piece out and he just smiles at him. Can you imagine the hurt to your mental being a heavyweight boxer and hitting someone as hard as you can and they just smile back at you, mouth full of blood.

Thomas Boyette

I think they're ready for 'Raging Bull' 🤣

Anthony Perez

You are so right about all the trials people born in early 1900's had to endure. I saw this just now and thought it helped to see what people underwent. "Imagine for a moment that you were born in the year 1900. When you were 14 years old, World War I begins and ends only when you are 18 years old, leaving 22 million dead. A little later, a worldwide pandemic, the Spanish Flu, appears, killing 50 million people. And you are alive, 20 years old. At 29 years old, you survive the global economic crisis that began with the crash of the New York Stock Exchange, causing inflation, unemployment and hunger. When you are 33 years old, Nazism comes to power. When you're 39, World War II starts and ends when you're 45, with 60 million dead. When you are 52 years old, the Korean War begins. When you're 64, the Vietnam War starts and ends when you're 75. A person born in 1985, for example, thinks that their grandparents have no idea how difficult life is, not knowing that they have survived several wars and catastrophes. Today we have been living with a great pandemic for more than a year. We are scared and tired. We lost friends and relatives, we are scared. In the past, conditions were even worse, but yes, humanity survived under these conditions and overcame it. Believe me, better days await us."

Carly Popcorn

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone!

S

So glad I stuck around for the end of the reaction. Thanks for sharing that story.

rakesh

You have a spot for Ron Howard movies, based on real life events, first Apollo 13 and then Cinderella Man, Thirteen Lives is on Amazon, based on the events of the Thailand Cave Rescue , directed by Ron Howard and has Vigo Mortesan aka Aragon from Lord of the Rings.... ALso not a Ron Howard Movie, but Lion based on real life events is also a great movie
