I think I was in the perfect mood for this one aka it stressed me out so bad, on the edge of my seat! Always glad to see family man action star Harrison, he would always have my vote!

[Full Reaction] Air Force One (1997)

Comments

Alex Villarreal

Harrison Ford, our greatest president! Great ‘90s action flick. Can’t wait to see this reaction. 🇺🇸✈️

Robert da Spruce

Do we have a late contender for a Poppie? 😉

Night King01

I know this movie is just die hard on a plane and that’s what everyone says including you. Buts it’s still a winning formula I don’t hold that against the movie.

Night King01

Wouldn’t you also know Gary oldman from Harry Potter. He played Sirius black remember. Harrys godfather

Wesley White

SWEET!!!! can't wait to watch it! this is one of my favorite movies, I always like watching it around 4th of July! so glad you watched it, can't wait to watch your reaction! 🥰😁😉👍

Zane From Canada

Harrison Ford is my favorite fictional president in this movie, followed by Bill Pullman in Independence Day. Runners Up are Peter Sellers in Dr. Stragelove Michael Douglas in The American President Kevin Kline in Dave Jeff Bridges in The Contender And for the sheer absurdity and laughter: Alan Alda in Canadian Bacon Lloyd Bridges in Hot Shots Part Deux Leslie Nielsen in Scary Movie 3 & 4 I sadly haven't watched The West Wing, but I hear amazing things about Martin Sheen as the president.

Alex Villarreal

(Movie credits start. Gary Oldman’s name pops up.) Cassie: After seeing him in Dracula, I hope [Gary Oldman] can redeem himself. Me: oh no.

warcrimes

Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln.

Gábor Árki

Interestingly, this wasn't the first "Die Hard on a plane" movie and is one of those films that were made in pairs. Executive Decision (1996) starring Kurt Russell and Halle Berry is equally good, but for some reason a kind of forgotten movie compared to Air Force One.

Gilbert Gonzalez

This was a pleasant surprise! Funny I just watched this on tv a couple days ago lol love this movie! It was great watching along with you and seeing you react!

Hades13
>>102550241

Halle Berry was in Executive Decision?! I don't remember her. Haven't seen the movie in a long time though.

warcrimes

"If you're going 500 mph wouldnt your skin come off?!?" Never change, Cass, never change <3

Caomhan84

I remember seeing this in the theater. It was only the second rated R movie I was allowed to see (the first being The Rock). When he said "Get off my plane!!!", one guy in the audience yelled "Hell yeah!" 😂

Michael Lynch
>>102547022

You should watch the West Wing. Martin Sheen would probably be number one. It’s an incredible series.

JL_83

was looking forward to this reaction since you love Harrison Ford; he, Glenn Close, and especially Gary Oldman really brought their A-game to this; there was a time when Oldman was known mostly for villainous roles, then he gravitated to Harry Potter and was also Commissioner Gordon in the Dark Knight trilogy with Christian Bale

Philip Herman

Looking forward to watching but will have to wait as the ice storm knocked out our cable so no internet. Thankfully we still have power but watching a movie on my phone would tax my data.

James1035

This is such a good action movie. It is one of a long line of 90’s action movies that followed the Die Hard on a … theme.

James1035
>>102550241

Donald Trump’s second wife is one of the stewardesses in that one as well

Mingo Wayama
>>102556563

And a very convincing Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour; a veritable chameleon of an actor.

Jon Johns

Well, Jed Bartlett is my number one. If we venture outside stuff you've seen, and outside POTUS... I'd include Laura Roslin, who is the secretary of education who gets... Promoted to President of the colonies in Battlestar Galactica. (so say we all) Michael Douglas in The American President is pretty great! That film is by the same creator of West Wing, and some believe it's success drove the networks to accept the series.

Matt Rose

The wonky special effects kinda kill the movie for me. It's not a situation where the effects are simply dated...they were bad at the time that the film came out. I remember my entire theater laughing at how poorly done that final crash into the ocean came out; that was NOT the desired reaction. It's otherwise a really solid film.

Tara

Looking forward to watching when I get off work this evening

Avastrasza

Samuel L Jackson in Big Game. :P But President Palmer from 24 too.

Jorge De La Torriente

There was a Rom-Com movie about a fictional president called "DAVE". It really had it all...comedy, romance, and intrigue.

Gábor Árki
>>102569682

Dave (1993) is a great movie. When the Presidents' Day movie was mentioned on Discord, I was kind of hoping it might be picked. I wonder how high up he would go on Cassie's President list.

Gábor Árki
>>102550241

Yeah, a bit after writing my comment I also remembered Passenger 57. It was probably the first "Die Hard on a plane" movie, but unlike these two I don't recall it being a good one.

Damon Corrigan

Great reaction, Cassie - this is one of the few rated R movies that we watch, and yeah, there are some inaccuracies (there is no escape pod on AF1), but it is a great one to watch with some wonderful performances. Have you not watched the Harry Potter movies? Gary Oldman was Sirius Black, Harry's Godfather. and a bunch of other stuff. If you like West Wing, you will love The American President. It was directed by Rob Reiner, and written by Aaron Sorkin - the same guy who wrote the early seasons of the West Wing, so it will seem very West Wing-ish to you.

Walter

well, you actually named my favorite fictional president - Jed Bartlett. I also loved Madame Secretary. I will add Harrison Ford for Air Force One. Kevin Kline in DAVE. And Michael Douglas for The American President. Fun fact, the writer of The American President (Aaron Sorkin) went on to create and write quite a lot of The West Wing. Martin Sheen (Jed Bartlett) is in the movie too. It's great and it's a romantic comedy, so you really need to see it.

JC762

I was never very impressed with Air Force One. It always seemed kind of cookie cutter standard action movie fare for the time, not really a stand out in any way. However I look forward to watching it again through new eyes. Maybe there’s some more stuff to appreciate that I missed. This has often been the case on the channel for me

Mike LL
>>102546779

Great kudos to Cassie for recognizing the formula, she nailed it. It <i><b>IS</b></i> Snakes on a Plane, I mean Die Hard!!

thomas king

One simple addition would have brought the house down. I always thought after seeing this movie in the theater a simple cameo would have made the audience erupt out of their seats. Should have had Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer be the pilots that saved Ford from the Soviet MIGS

Mike LL

Fun to watch this one with Cassie, hadn't seen it in ages. How in the world did she recognize Wendy Crewson (First Lady) from the cast of The Santa Clause?? I could never do that in a million years. So what that she didn't recognize Gary Oldman from a few movies! Cassie has a great eye for some things!

Dustin Denner

If you REALLY want "The West Wing" vibes... "The American President" (1995) will absolutely accommodate you. It stars Michael Douglas as The President and Martin Sheen as the Vice President.

Scott Macaulay

This was my late mom and dad's favorite movie! I love that the so-called boring beginning part showing him with his family is what you want the whole movie to be. Very endearing.

Mary Alice

Love Air Force One! I’m glad you got a chance to see it. Did you recognize William Macy who is also in Jurassic Park three? Has one of the best quotes in a movie… Get off my damn plane. And of course Harrison Ford. The moral of the story, is that if you are a President of the United States you better do a good job picking your vice president. Glenn Close did such a good job, and I love the fact that she wouldn’t allow anybody to talk her into turning her back on the president. She believed in him, and chose to give him a chance to take care of the situation in his way. As always, I love your reactions. Thank you!

Dioskur

"I thought he was an... old man" Cassie that one was so.... I don't even know, I feel a mixture of shame and entertainment :)

Steven Ashford

Lincoln is the must! And you look great in the blazer.

Gábor Árki

This was a great reaction indeed. Cassie (Carly) and action-thrillers are a bombastic combination. Regarding that aerial transfer scene, I think that was all special effects in this movie. But it is technically possible and there was another film made a few years prior, where the stunt team actually performed that in real life, on camera. The movie is Cliffhanger (1993), starring Sylvester Stallone, which I think would turn out to be another great action movie reaction.😉

Stick Figure Studios

Once again, I knew it. I knew you would love AIR FORCE ONE. I've been hoping you'd watch it as far back as your IN THE LINE OF FIRE reaction (which, as I've said before, was made by the same director, German filmmaker Wolfgang Peterson who recently passed away). I was particularly hopeful when you finished the Harrison Ford Jack Ryan movies since this is essentially his third Jack Ryan film (to be honest, that's actually what I thought it was initially when I first saw the trailer because in the Tom Clancy books, Ryan eventually becomes president). It's an exciting action suspense-thriller from a time when they really knew how to make those. Yes, as you picked up on, it is a DIE HARD imitator, but out of the string of all those that were made in the wake of the original 1988 film, this is one of the better ones. One of the things in its favor is that it feels like it could really happen. You are correct about much of it defying the laws of physics, but while you're watching the film, that hardly matters as you're completely involved in the drama of the situation. Of course, the whole notion of Air Force One being taken hostage is ludicrous. I remember back when this movie came out there were a lot of news programs comparing fact with fiction, talking about how it's impossible: like that Secret Service agents aren't actually allowed to wander around alone on the plane. They move in teams, which would mean that the scenario of Gibbs making the weapons available to others just wouldn't happen. Also, the escape pod that is supposed to be jettisoned with the president on it does not exist, or at least didn't in 1997. When Bill Clinton saw this movie, he thought that maybe that was a good idea and that they should make one. Interestingly, this is not the first film to use such an imaginary device. It also appeared in the John Carpenter film ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. The cast is terrific. Not just the three leads (Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman and Glenn Close), but the supporting cast is made up of wonderful character actors (a few of which you recognized; good job) and the direction is taught and effective. For me, Harrison Ford is one of my top three favorite fictional presidents. Along with him are naturally Jed Bartlett from THE WEST WING and Kevin Kline in the wonderful movie DAVE which you should really watch at some point. That's another one that I'm certain you will love. One final remark: when the opening theme music struck up you mentioned that it gave you WEST WING vibes. There's a reason for that. Most film/TV music that intends to denote patriotism or represent the President of the United States is done in the style of a great American composer named Aaron Copland who more or less created the "sound" of American music as we know it today. A lot of brass, a lot of strings, a lot of winds playing sweeping melodies, usually marches. When you hear music by John Williams (in JFK or LINCOLN), James Horner (in APOLLO 13 or CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER) or in this case Jerry Goldsmith sounding so rousing and emotional, they are doing it in the style of Copland. He really was a genius and hugely influential. So glad you finally watched this and even more glad that you enjoyed it. If you're interested in another intense "sweaty palms" action thriller trapped in a small space, I recommend CRIMSON TIDE with Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington. It takes place on a submarine. Looking forward to your GOLDFINGER reaction. Keep up the good work as always. :-)

Stick Figure Studios
>>102562049

Yeah, that's my one major complaint as well. You're right about the CGI not just aging well, it was bad in 1997. I remember seeing it in the theater and being unimpressed by them then... particularly that final one when the plane crashes. That's just terrible.

Bill Maurer

Trivia alert: This was written with Kevin Costner in mind but he was busy with "The Postman" and suggested Harrison Ford for the role. Gary Oldman is great in anything he is in. "Darkest Hour" should or will hopefully be in her queue.

Brian Harris

I had actually never seen this before. This movie is a great example of why Harrison Ford and Bruce Willis were the greatest action stars of their time. Stallone and Schwarzenegger were great, but they were gods, not flesh and blood. You didn’t worry for them, there was no suspense. Much better when our heroes are human. Yes, you should watch all those movies you mentioned at the top, especially Lincoln, which I think you’d love, and JFK, which I think would probably make your head explode. JFK is actually not about Kennedy, it’s about his assassination and a New Orleans district attorney (played by Kevin Costner in what is, for me, his best performance) who becomes obsessed with uncovering a conspiracy behind it. It’s a WILD ride. Absolutely bizarre filmmaking and incredible performances from a truly all-star cast. One of my personal favorites.

Odd Thomas

Maybe it's the script, but for a movie with Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman it just bored me to tears. I'll watch it again for your reaction though obvs

richard wilkinson

Another top President movie is "Dave" 1993 with Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver...funny and romantic!

Cody Nelson

I know you've said elsewhere that you've seen the Harry Potter movies. Gary Oldman played Sirius Black in those movies.

Stick Figure Studios
>>102597324

Spesking of Bruce Willis, his diagnosis has been updated to dementia in the past week. Such heartbreaking news. :-( Makes me want to go back and watch more of his movies now that I know how precious they are. Maybe we could even get a Bruce Willis poll.

Michael McErlain

Cassie! You should check out Dave and The American President! Both are great with love stories as well!

David Poray

I think you've seen the Christian Bale Batman movies. Gary Oldman plays Gordon in those. One of his more subdued roles. I know True Romance keeps popping up for you to watch. One of Oldman's best and he's not even in it very long.

Rick Williams

Great Reaction, Cassie. Great suspenseful movie. My favorite fictional president is Morgan Freeman in Deep Impact.

Pickupthepieces76

The writer/showrunner of The West Wing is actually the only script writer I sought out to see more of his stuff. Usually only do that with actors/directors. But he has got such a nice cadance in his writing it really stands out. He wrote movies like The American President, A Few Good Men, Money Ball and my favorite The Newsroom. A 25 episode series about a news broadcaster. I can recommend it to everyone.

Ian Cano

"Get off my plane!"

Ian Cano
>>102547022

Martin Sheen as the president in The Dead Zone (1983). "My what a glorious day!"

Pacmule

Slam dunk without a doubt best movie president was Jack Nicholson in Mars Attack

Robert da Spruce

Great reaction Cassie! I think we have a nominee for next year’s Poppies for Best Action Movie Reaction! 😀 I’ve been waiting for you to react to this film since I became one of your Patrons. And I was not disappointed! That was great fun! Definitely one of my favorite Film/TV presidents!

Shawn Kildal
>>102550241

Executive Decision is an awesome movie. Hopefully, one day Cassie will give Kurt Russell some love. Tombstone, Breakdown, Unlawful Entry among many others.

Shawn Kildal

Please don't tease us with the possibility of watching THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT. That's just cruel. It would only be one of your favorite movies ever btw.

Shawn Kildal

Speaking of "24". That was Xander Berkeley playing the role of Special Agent Gibbs (the traitor). He played George Mason, Jack Bauer's boss the first 2 seasons of "24". Charles Logan from Season 5 is the president you were thinking of with weak chin. He was played by the late Gregory Itzin. Harrison Ford's wife in this movie also played President David Palmer's doctor / love interest in season 3 of "24". There are so many "24" actors in this movie it's tough to list them all.

Ceruleo
>>102562049

Apparently the shot of Air Force One crashing in the ocean was an unfinished shot. I think the guy in charge of special effects said it was 75% done when they just ran out of time. The director kept having them redo the brightness of the tail lights on one of the planes and, despite people working around the clock and sleeping in the office, they could not finish what should have been the showstopping CGI effect.

Shawn Kildal

Jeff Bridges was a great President in THE CONTENDER as well. Gary Oldman was in that too.

Ceruleo
>>102571585

For me it was kind of weird watching The American President after I had watched The West Wing a few times through. I don't remember specifics, but I remember that both presidents had some similar lines and I thought the characterization of some of the White House staff were very similar between the movie and the show.

Ceruleo

This is one of my favorite reactions that I have ever seen Cassie do. Whenever I think about this movie, I always think about Halo-2 flying into the missile to save Air Force One and I was curious to see Cassie's reaction. I was not disappointed. I always have an odd experience watching this movie because I get parts of it mixed up with Executive Decision. For example, I always expect President Marshall to cut wires to blink a morse code message with the navigation lights to the F-15s around Air Force One instead of dumping fuel.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Best has to be Jed Bartlet, he was such a perfect leader he had to be fictional, he was like Kennedy and Lincoln put together without the filandering or the surprisingly shrill voice. But for movie presidents I have to recommend a Kevin Costner movie, "13 Days", he plays President Kennedy's advisor during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Great movie if you're up for the kind of tension you get from Apollo 13, especially knowing it really happened!

PaleBear

Fun fact: The theme song to this movie was played while President Trump walked out to give his acceptance speech after he won the election. To this day, I haven't heard anyone else mention this, but I recognized the song instantly, because of how many times I've seen the movie. Pretty funny.

Greg

Beth Dutton for president!

richard wilkinson

A sleeper President's movie is BY DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT 1990 with Martin Landau.

Stick Figure Studios
>>102547022

Oh, man! Sellers in STRANGELOVE! "Now, Dimitri, you know how we've always talked about the possibility of something going wrong with the bomb?...... The bomb, Dimitri...... The Hydrogen bomb."

Odd Thomas

You know what's a great Gary Oldman villain nobody ever talks about? Lost in Space. Apart from the odd wonky CGI effect I always thought it was great fun!

Ted Little

My favourite fictional president? Frederic March in "Seven Days in May." (1964)

Oisin Clissmann

Best president in movies: hands down "Tug" Benson in Hot Shots! Part Deux.

Stephen

The Vice President made a stupid, reckless decision not to relinquish the President's power in this situation, thankfully this was just a movie. And if we talk about real-life stupid exchanges, the USA released a notorious arms dealer, known as 'The Merchant of Death', in exchange for the release of Brittney Griner, a two-bit basketball player... She will be the cause of countless lost lives in the future because of her stupidity.

Jaccob Cortes

President Ford was the best President we never had.

SeanATX

OMG I love this movie!!

SeanATX
>>102696869

P.S. for st. patrick's day please watch "In the Name of the Father". Daniel Day-Lewis, it's a true story about wrongfully accused and imprisoned family from the IRA/British conflict. AMAZING movie, nominated for Best Picture

Wesley White

WOO-HOO! I really enjoyed this reaction! as always, you were hilariously amazing with your shock and awe facial expressions and you were just on the edge of your seat, or should I say bed lol😂, the whole time! I loved it! I remember seeing this movie in the theatre when I was 9 years old, I was a huge sucker for action movies, not that I still am today lol! but back then, I loved guns blazzing and explosions, it was just pure awesome entertainment for me! so glad you enjoyed watching this movie Cassie, really looking forward for your next Bond film and of course another favorite action movie of mine "The Rock" I know for certain, you'll love that one too! hope you're doing well, hope when St. Patty's Day comes around, you'll check out Disney's "Darby O'Gill & the Little People" you and Carly will love that movie, I promise you! I sent you that movie along with 9 other DVD's in my package I sent you lol! much love and support and....... stay classy Cassie lol🥰😁😉👍

Dean Holt

This one is ridiculously unrealistic at time especially the last 30 minutes or so but it’s still a fun action film. Can’t wait to see your reaction to The Rock as it’s one of my favourites from the 90s also my top 3 fictional presidents are Jack Nicholson Mars Attacks, Bill Pullman Independence Day and Morgan Freeman Deep Impact.

Matt Mabry

Designated Survivor - Kieffer Sutherland

Larry Darrell

Liesel Matthews is the actress who played the First Daughter. She was only in 3 films. Her first was 2 years earlier, A Little Princess (1995), directed by Alfonso Cuaron. An adaptation and remake of the Novel of the same name from 1905 and the 1939 film starring Shirley Temple. This was one of my favorites growing up, and Highly Recommend. Liesel Matthews has an interesting backstory, and this would probably explain why she didn't need to continue acting. Thoughts while watching Reaction... there was no shot showing someone find the fax, so that tension could be created and the viewer could join in, with the President and passengers, on the suspense of whether or not someone did find it. We found out with them that someone did; The scene with Philip Baker Hall, as the U.S. Attorney General, explaining who is actually in charge was a little for the Vice President and the Defense Secretary, but mostly, I think, for the audience/viewers, so to explain the chain of command in this scenario, because it was a little complicated. If you don't know who the "Postmaster General" is, that means you definitely need to watch The Postman (1997), starring Kevin Costner. :-) The ending zip-line rescue may not have been completely plausible, but, made me think of the Fulton surface-to-air recovery system or "Skyhook System." This was real, and used in the Dark Knight (2008), and before that, in James Bond's Thunderball (1965). Looks like a Wild-Ride. Your talking about the West Wing, makes me think about The Newsroom (2012 - 2014). Both written by Aaron Sorkin. Highly Recommend. Favorite Movie Presidents, besides Harrison Ford and Bill Pullman, who are both Action Presidents. For "Crisis" Presidents, I would say Fredric March in Seven Days in May (1964) and Morgan Freeman in Deep Impact (1998). Again, Highly Recommend.

Jonathan Hall

You already named my favorite fictional presidents so I'll go my favorite fictional leader. King Theoden from Lord of the Rings

Odd Thomas

The best president is Bill Pullman in Independence Day. Best rousing speech in movie history!

Jonathan Hall
>>102688638

Yeah when I was a kid I thought the VP made the right decision. As an adult, I'm like wow that was really really irresponsible.

Albert

One things for sure He’ll definitely get re-elected

Ryan Towell

I saw this in the theater when it came out. I thought it could have easily been a Jack Ryan film, if Jack Ryan went on to become President..

Michael Jung

This really is Die Hard in a plane... which would basically make it Die Hard II

Jon Brown

I’ve been waiting AGES for someone (especially our Popcorn Princess) to do this movie!! Incredibly underrated movie, this one NEVER fails to thrill, no matter how many times you watch it. Soooooo glad you watched this with us!

David Freese
>>102722516

Aren't most 90s movies unrealistic. I love them all but The Rock is just as bad on realism. That's why they're called entertainment.

Bryan Fritchie

Wait, you haven't seen the Harry Potter movies??

KauaiKeith

Loved your reaction. Two recommendations: Another good Harrison Ford movie - Six Days, Seven Nights. You also mentioned two "President" movies - American President and Lincoln. You will enjoy both but Lincoln is historically accurate and as an historian myself, I have to say that Daniel Day-Lewis' performance comes the closest to capturing the real man. I love that movie and you will too.

Mingo Wayama

Like you, I would have to say Martin Sheen was my favorite President, in West Wing. For my second favorite, I would have to go with Michael Douglas, in the American President, also featuring Martin Sheen, as his chief of staff.

Bubba Fett

You forgot president skroob

Kevin R.

One of the best movies of all time imo!!

Dana Regan

See, CNN was making up stories even back then.

Dana Regan

Cassie, it would be hard for you to eliminate emotion to jump. But it really is easy. You have to focus on the task at hand with no emotion. Business people and truck drivers (Ive done both) have that capability. Never make emotional decisions. Never put passion before principal..even if you win, you lose (Mr Miyagi).

Dana Regan

I would have to disagree with putting this president above the Independence Day President. ID president helped save the planet..this president got off a plane. lol
