UGH!!! I am so caught up and I can’t talk to anyone. (Tear Emoji)

Popcorn In Bed

I haven't checked it out (cause I'm not caught up yet), but I know there is a thread over on discord with ~1000 comments discussing all episodes!

Uncle Phoenix

It’s taken a year to figure out the Cassie Requests webpage. It’s going to take at least another year to figure out how to get on Discord.

LOL, I can’t even respond to this, except to say, “Wow, that was a great show.”

You know, you don't actually HAVE to watch this. You are under no obligation to sit through things that numb your soul to humanity's darkest impulses. What humanity actually needs are more sensitive, loving souls like yourself. I am definitely not one of those people who thinks video games and violent movies turn people into serial killers - I love Shakespeare, and he could get plenty violent and horrific - and seeing violence can sometimes be ennobling, like forcing ourselves to confront the historical horrors depicted in Schindler's List and Chernobyl and 12 Years a Slave. But in this instance we are talking about a show based on a game where the point is for the viewer/player to inflict as much violence as possible to protect one's own tribe. What offends me isn't the violence or the killing but the idea that tribalism=morality. What we need is LESS tribalism. We need to restore some sense of common humanity before it's too late, Watching stuff like this encourages the idea that we can't trust anyone and makes us just crawl deeper into our respective caves, and repeated viewings of this sort of thing can't help but toughen our tolerance for images that SHOULD horrify us. I know this show is highly acclaimed and is written by people who actually do think about these issues - but I can't help but feel that they're using their intellect to justify gratuitous violence and nihilism instead of imagining a world where it might be possible to rise above those things.

JD, you are way off base. I agree she doesn't need to watch it, and its not for eveverybody, but the game is not about "justifying violence." Its about a person struggling with their nature. The game wants the player to feel bad about the acts of violence Joel engages in. It is a commentary on tribalism, not an endorsement of it.

I always thought it was more a think piece about a mid level band struggling with their own limitations in the harsh face of stardom.

Try watching a show before writing a morality screed. This is a show about love enduring in even the most desolate surroundings. Love of friends, spouses, etc. The ability to find your family, when all seems lost.

"things that numb your soul to humanity's darkest impulses" So you're saying, eventually, I won't cry when I see two people giggling while eating strawberries in the apocalypse?

If you already have Discord, its as easy as going to Patreon Settings > More > Connected Apps > click Connect to Discord If you don't have Discord, just download Discord before you do the above steps. You would have to choose a login name and password and have an email.

Uncle Phoenix

Woohoo. I know it seems simple; and it was, but I couldn’t have figured it out on my own. Thanks, again.

I played the second game last year and intend to play Part 1… but I’m still recovering from the trauma. I need to prepare myself to face it.

The first is much 'easier'. The second destroyed me for a while.
