The gap between Licence To Kill and GoldenEye was due to legal disputes regarding licensing/distribution etc. Producer Albert Broccoli stepped down as head of Eon Productions and his daughter Barbara took over. In that 6 year span, Timothy Dalton's contract expired so they picked up Pierce Brosnan. Other new additions were Judi Dench as M, and Samantha Bond as Moneypenny. Sorry Carly, they didn't "perfect" Bond with Pierce Brosnan. They had it right from the beginning. But... GoldenEye was a big success partly because U.S. audiences were already familiar with Brosnan as he played a charming private detective on a successful tv series called Remington Steele (1982-1987).

Tom Hardy as Bond?👎 Count me among the proponents of Idris Elba. He’s a bit old to take on the role, but he could carry the franchise for at least a couple of films. He’s just got that subtle coooooool attitude that Bond needs.

Actually it was NBC & Remington Steele that kept Brosnan from being Bond before/instead of Dalton. Steele was on the verge of being cancelled but when excitement began to build that Brosnan would be the next Bond, NBC renewed Steele to keep their suddenly popular commodity under contract. Once Dalton's contract expired, the Bond producers leapt at the chance to finally score Brosnan!

Yeah, I thought they were going to switch to Idris 2 films ago. I was looking forward to it. Oh well. Too late now. I think Henry Cavill might be a better bond than Hardy.
