Welllll I get why this wasn't a favorite of the quad but after thinking about it, I can't fault anyone too much. They've always been a little cheesy, a little unbelievable. I liked being with Indy again though (still got it my man).

[Full Reaction] Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

Comments

Cliff Stephenson

Wait until you get to the Dull of Destiny. It makes Crystal Skull feel like Last Crusade.

Bill Maurer

I got three good movies from "Indy". I will leave it at that

Cole Jennett

I don’t think “Dial of Destiny” is any worse then this one, so I believe, if you had fun with this, you will have fun with that one too.

JL_83

Raiders, Temple of Doom, and Last Crusade are all I need…sorry if that’s an unpopular opinion

Daniel W

I agree with JL on this one. The last crusade was a good one to go out on. However nostalgia is a funny thing, the throwback nods in Crystal Skull is the only thing that saved this movie in my opinion

Matt Mabry

Well, I guess his very last one will redeem. I never really cry, but this one got me. Especially the ending. THEY DID IT RIGHT!!!

Just Plain Bob

Count me among this film’s detractors. This was one of those rare movies for me - so bad that I left the theater angry. I felt like I’d been ripped off. I’ve left the theater disappointed before, but not like this. It seemed almost as if they went out of their way to make a bad film. Shia LaBlah was terrible, his character was thoroughly unlikeable and the CGI was some of the worst I’ve ever seen (it looked like a producer’s idiot nephew drew all over the negative). The Tarzan sequence seemed designed to appeal to children, really dim witted children. Just awful. PS: I think Cassie put her finger on my biggest complaint about not only Temple of Doom but also Last Crusade - the female lead was very unlikeable (particularly in Temple of Doom, very “screechy” for lack of a better term). I enjoyed both those films but the female protagonists were just bad. The one thing this film did right was bringing back Marion. I just wish they’d brought her back in a much better film.

Dave

Looking forward to this one, Cassie. Sure, it's not the best film, but you if you love Indy, then you love Indy. Besides, it's about the reaction, not the film, and you're the best in the biz.

Joshua Stormont

I love the love story in it. I think it’s still a good movie.

Alex Gorell

I saw this in theaters and was soo excited. The opening scene at the warehouse was awesome, classic Indy. Even the rocket sled was alright a bit farfetched but was like ok it's science fiction/action movie whatever. But it quickly fell apart with the hiding in the refrigerator to survive a nuke part and it just never recovered. its a shame because it had such potential but it just collapsed like 20 minutes in. Walked out of the theatre actually quite annoyed and that rarely happens to me.

Larry Darrell
>>118279858

There’s only 3 for me. When I want more than that, I can always watch The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones.

Choof

Cassie’s facial reaction to this is bewilderment mixed with occasional smiling as I expected haha. Only reason I'd ever watch this again was with you and you made it better than when it was in theaters.

Larry Darrell

I have never had a desire to see this film a second time, after seeing it in the theater. I guess I’ll do it now. Cassie’s intro paragraph got me curious.

Celeste McAllister

Goes to show old guys can kick butt!♡I'll wait for the YT edit and Silver daddy HR♡

Jason Dolan

Just remember Indiana Jones drank from the cup of Christ so he might have some immunity to certain things like radiation

Chris Davis

I agree with Cassie that the Groundhogs weren't needed, but I blame that on Spielberg, personally. Also, Cass, it would help to brush up on late 1950's history, which I think this movie did a good job of putting elements in. McCarthy-ism, the Red Scare, rocket experiments and research by the military into psychic warfare were all things that happend.

Thank you. I have no idea why a portion of the internet is dedicated to hating it, because I've been a fan of this franchise for basically my whole life... And Dial of Destiny, while not perfect, is a wonderful movie and a wonderful send-off. I had a ton of fun with it. It gave me all the right feelings that Crystal Skull did not. It was like reading an old, faded adventure novel that you would find at a used bookstore. It was great. I've seen the darn thing six times now... And I've only seen Crystal Skull three times in 15 years. 😂

Brian McGovern

I suppose I could bite the bullet and rematch this for the first time.

Jyn Jilly

Uh.. Cassie you said these were Disney films?... None of the Indiana Jones were made by Disney except the new one that came out a few months ago. They're Lucasfilm movies

JPDotCom23

Haha you didn't see the Lost Ark when he crashed out of that building, I'm surprised

Adam Grunther

Are you going to watch the fifth movie as well?

Josh Phillips

I don’t dislike this movie, but it’s still kind of meh… the ant scene was brutal though. What a way to go 🥴

JPDotCom23

It's a nuclear testing site, this is suppose to be in Nevada

Adam Grunther
>>118279673

Because most people either went in with expectations that were way too high or were excited to immediately condemn it if it wasn’t the greatest movie of the year. I personally loved the film. It wasn’t perfect but I had a fantastic experience watching it and consider it one of my favorite movies of this year. I really hope Cassie ignores the haters claiming it’s bad and checks it out.

LightsCameraJake

Honestly every Indiana jones movie was cheesy with its jokes and one liners and nonsensical plot and lots of plot armor. This movie was the same, just with crap CGI and an even more nonsensical plot. So really its sticking to the formula. None of these movies are meant to be taken seriously, even Temple of Doom, by that i mean you just knew watching it that everything was going to be fine in the end. The best movie to really let loose with all of this was The Last Crusade, thats the best one. It executed all the lines, the jokes and the plot so well. you appreciated how cheesy the movie was. This one not so much, same formula, just cant top the last crusade or all the original 3 movies tbh, Dial of Destiny also it sticks to the indiana jones formula. Just fun adventures with an even more crazy plot and odd jokes and one liners. Enjoyable but not memorable. Worth a reaction though.

Richard Bourne

This movie lost me at the refritgerator scene. I have also never been a fan of Shia LaBeouf.

Michael Weiner

I'm never sure why people expect reality in movies that are clearly fictional, fantasy, and fun. So what if the plot is nonsensical, they're all nonsensical. It's Indiana Jones, it's Harrison Ford, he got Marian in the end, and my goodness. Such outrage is ludicrous.

JPDotCom23

I actually enjoyed 'Dial of Destiny' more than I did this one

Jyn Jilly

15 years later and I still can't make myself love this film but I definitely like it! Still a fun Indy adventure that I'm glad I saw. And I think Indy marrying Marion then taking his hat back to tell us "I will always be the only Indiana Jones" is a nice ending to the films

Philip Alan

Hahaha! Your camera kept focusing on the INDY head behind you and not on you! You're out of focus for most of this reaction! Too funny! :)

warcrimes

Love ya but I cannot watch this shit pile movie again. <3

Jason Chirevas
>>118279673

Nathan and Caomhan are 100 percent correct here. DOD is the second-best Indiana Jones movie.

Jyn Jilly
>>118289579

The camera is trying to apologize to old school Indy in the photo for this film haha

James UK

This is the weakest film of the series but I think you’ll prefer the next one. It’s a little long but good fun, for the most part.

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

Cassie: There was a spaceship! Oh...My...Gosh...I was joking!!! George Lucas: I wasn't...

zynjams

I tried, I really tried. but even if the Bomb didn't kill him the refrigerator tumbling through the desert should have, I shut it down after that.

Kevin Townsend

I really don’t mind the concept of this movie. I think the dependence on CGI is really the weakest aspect of the movie not so much the aliens, in my opinion. The original three relied more on practical effects and miniatures and the occasional blue screen. The most tense part of the movie is when Mutt picks up the hat and Indy grabs it just in time. There was a collective sigh of relief in the theater that night.

Stick Figure Studios

Like most everyone else, I was disappointed in this film when I first saw it (I also think the ending to the third one was perfect; they literally rode off into the sunset for crying out loud), but revisiting it z few more times over the years, I've grown more fond of if it. It may indeed be the weakest overall entry of the series (although in some ways it's still a better directed movie than the fifth one because Spielberg is just a better director than James Mangold... and I like Mangold), but it is not terrible and definitely over-hated. I'm glad you finally watched it and seemed to have enjoyed it. Very curious what you'll think of the fifth (and final) one.

Wesley White

Great reaction Cassie as always, I really enjoyed this! Before I help shed some light on your confusion of this movies' plot, let me just say that I am one of the few people that actually liked this movie when it came out in theaters the first time back in 2008! However, I will admit, it is the weakest link of the franchise, doesn't quite hold a candle to the original three! Especially since the way the third film ended, it was a perfect wrap up of the trilogy! But I will say this, this fourth film does have a lot of nostalgia for the original three, you just can't help but think of the three as you watch this, especially with the return of Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood, you still see the same chemistry between Harrison and Karen as they did back in 1981! Plus I love the little cameo they did in the warehouse chase scene, of the Ark of the Covenant from the first film! I just knew you would love the ending seeing them get married lol! I'm glad you can at least appreciate it, even if you didn't like it as much, and that's okay! This 4th installment is not for everyone, take it with a grain of salt! And yes, like you said about the ridiculousness of the first three, all the dangerous situations that Indy went through and got himself out of when you would think he would've gotten himself killed, they sure did a lot of that! Indiana Jones is basically a homage to the adventure serials from the 1930's that people went to see to escape from reality during the time of the Great Depression, and I think this installment still retains that feeling! You just got to turn your brain off and leave logic outside the theater lol! To help shed some light on the confusion you were going through when trying to follow the plot! First let me point out the term Indy said at the beginning "I like Ike" it's a phrase Americans said in support of the President that was running the country at the time, former WWII General Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was determined at the time to prevent communism from spreading to American soil with the "Eisenhower Doctrine", look it up on wikipedia! During the 1950's, the Cold War was at large, the threat of the Soviet Union and Communism, or "The Red Scare" hense the scene you saw of those college students holding up the signs saying "Better Dead than Red"! The Red Scare was hysteria over the perceived threat posed by Communists in the U.S. during the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States! Plus there was a supposed scare going on about the Soviet Union using brainwashing techniques or technology to I guess try make people support communism, I could be wrong about that so don't quote me lol! Plus on a sidenote, back in the 1950's, the whole scare that went on about the "so called" alien crash landing in Roswell, New Mexico and the remains brought to the secret military base Area 51, which was at a hype back then lol! As for the aliens, I'm a little mixed about them being involved, maybe if they never showed them or something that would've been a bit better! I've dedicated much of my knowledge in studying mythology of different cultures, I just find it so fascinating, my favorite is Greek Mythology lol! However, in Ancient Mayan/Aztec mythology, it's believed that their Gods came from the skies in giant ships, and taught humans how to build and agriculture! Like Indy said when he and Mutt were exploring the grave sight, "depends who your God is" lol! Oh, and to help clarify, those two creepy humans that were attacking Indy and Mutt, they were gravekeepers, protectors/caretakers of the graves! The name they came up with in this movie, Akator, that's not real, but there were legends looming around back in the 15th/16th century, about a city made of gold that the Spanish conquistadors sought after and called it El Dorado, famous among them was Hernan Cortes! However, while El Dorado is associated with South America, it is not Mayan nor Aztec, it orginated with the Muisca people of present day Colombia! Plus, "rock crystal" is supposedly very senstive material to carve! For one to carve it into a human like skull without the slightest scratch or blemish from crafting tools, it's believed to be impossible to do, that's why some believe crystal skulls are otherworldly! One thing this movie did get right is the legend of the 13 crystal skulls that are supposed to hold knowledge regarding the history of the human race and civilisation! One other thing, that's not related to the plot lol, the vehicle that Marion was driving that you said "looks like a boat" that's called an Amphibious Vehicle, meaning it's vehicle that can drive on land and also float and move in water like a boat lol! One last thing to point out, the main villain of this movie, that was none other than the lovely and talented Cate Blanchet, whom you would recognize from The Lord of the Rings as Lady Galadriel!😁✌ There you have it Cassie, the best information that I can help provide for you to help you understand the plot of this movie, [phew] what a loadout lol🤣 I hope you found all this information very helpful and intriguing, sorry for this LONG!!!! text of a comment, good luck reading it all LOL🤣 Regardless, I still enjoyed watching your reaction to this movie, I even wore my Indiana Jones hat while watching it lol! I see you still have that cough, that's crazy, sorry Cassie! Hope you're getting better soon, today's Monday so, hope you'll eventually get my package I sent you on my birthday lol! You and Carly will love the matching shirts I got you for when you two eventually watch The Mummy (1999)! Can't wait for that reaction! Love and support always, once again thank you for the birthday wishes, you're the best, [virutal hug] God bless you, Carly, and your family! And as always [snaps fingers & winks] stay classy Cassie🥰😁😉😇🙏👍🌹

Cade

I try to like it, truly I do. But geez. I can't get over those stupid gophers. And the refrigerator. And the monkeys. And the.... etc.

Larry Darrell

Spoiler… if anyone really cares. As soon as Steven Spielberg read the script, he should have said “Nuh aaahh, Nope. I’m NOT doing aliens again. No way.”

Larry Darrell
>>118306822

I never saw that. That’s funny. So the concept was developed before he did War of the Worlds then. War of the Worlds (2005) was the end of a Perfect Alien Trilogy, with Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) and E.T. (1982).

Wil Olandria

FYI: This movie was the last of the Paramount distribution deals of Indiana Jones. Dial of Destiny is a true Disney Production.

djKENTO

I don’t like it and I somehow enjoyed it more than Dial of Destiny…

Odd Thomas

Compared to 5 this is a frickin' masterpiece. Not as good as the original trilogy certainly, but fun in of itself.

Rick Williams

I have not had any desire to watch this movie. But, I will watch it with you for the first time.

djKENTO
>>118314213

I hate it for all the reasons I love Logan. All the tonal choices are wrong.

Grégory Gautier

They say that when you've seen the 5th, you reevaluate this one! (I don't know if that's a good thing!) 🤔 / Never seen it since its release, I'll give it a chance one day.

Gábor Árki

The first time I attended a midnight premiere was for this movie. I went with a friend from university, and we were so eager to see the movie that we did not want to postpone it until the next day. We had to go to a theatre that was far from our campus, because it was the only one that offered subtitles instead of dubbing. When the movie was over, we had to run to catch the last bus and mistakenly got on the wrong one and traveled one stop to the wrong direction. We didn't want to waste our money on a taxi, so we decided to walk back to our dorm, which took us almost two hours. We arrived after 4 am, exhausted. What a night. The movie left us with a lot of mixed emotions, but I was mostly positive about it after the first time I watched it. It was only when I saw it again that I noticed how many problems it had. I still think that the first half of the movie is quite decent, except for a few things (like the fridge 🙄). It was great to see Ford in the role again and you could feel he enjoyed reprising it too. There were some good action scenes with great stunts and good amount of fun and humor, reminiscent of the original movies. I personally don't even mind Mutt's character and I think Shia did a decent job. But for the second half the movie is just falling apart completely. The story is confusing, the characters, mainly Spalko and Mac, are very flat and even the action scenes become so unrealistic that they don't even fit in an Indy movie. It almost feels as watching an Indy spoof at times. And don't get me started on the awful CGI effects. I feel Cassie's reaction was spot on. I did expect she would overall enjoy the movie, but she did point out several of the main problems during the reaction. Personally, I have not seen the 5th yet due to the very mixed reviews it got. Seems people are split whether they consider the 4th or the 5th to be the weakest. Even if I decide to watch it one day, I think I will always consider Indiana Jones to be a trilogy that is ending with them riding off into the sunset with Williams' iconic music.

Rick Williams

That was a wild, fun movie. That was Indiana Jones. Great Reaction, Cassie. And you had jokes. I caught the comment about the whip. There is a theory that alien astronauts visited Earth something like 5000 years ago and taught the Egyptians, Mayans and other civilizations. That's how they knew how to build great structures and about medicine and surgery, math, about the stars and calendars. It is an interesting theory.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Cassie, It was good to see you back. Can't wait to see what you have planned for October. Hopefully Carly doesn't catch what or your kid has. You family is always in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed.

Omar

I may be too harsh on this film bc I have a particular dislike for Shia Laboof. He was really rude when he was here filming Transformers, never saw him the same after that.

Keith Jones
>>118298905

Well done Wesley, I came to write basically the same, but you covered it perfectly.

Jacob King

I liked this reaction. Cassie, you picked up most of the plot holes. There are definitely some good parts of the movie but it doesn’t really hang together watching it so many years later. The portrayal and then the massacre of the Indigenous people is basically unforgivable in a movie made in the 21st century. Indy’s yammering on about the secret knowledge passed on to their ancestors but doesn’t ever think to ask what they know. It’s far stupider than the fridge protecting him from the nuclear blast. Then no one even comments on their murder. I like all the cartoony bits, the groundhogs and monkeys, the sword fight in the jungle, the ants, but the mystery doesn’t work. One thing to bear in mind is Spielberg was prepping his Tintin movie when this was made. Having grown up with Tintin I can see the the tone of Crystal Skull is much closer to Tintin than to Indy. The plot is very similar to the Seven Crystal Balls/Prisoners of the Sun arc. The Alien stuff was another obsession of his. He had made a terrible miniseries about Roswell called Taken and was linked to a group lobbying the government for alien disclosure. These two things may have played a part in why it missed the mark.

DWG15
>>118382341

Terrible miniseries called Taken? I’m sorry you didn’t like it but I thought it was great.

Stick Figure Studios

It's fascinating to me how many people hate the "nuke the fridge" scene. I think it's a perfectly executed joke. The timing is impeccable, it's very funny, it's memorable (more memorable than any of the things that happen in the fifth film), it's no more ridiculous than Indy surviving jumping out of a plane in a life raft or a German plane crashing into a tunnel and sliding right by a speeding car (kicking up flames that somehow don't burn the drivers to death) and it culminates in one of the best images in the entire film series: a silhouette of Indiana Jones standing in the bottom right corner of the frame dwarfed by a massive mushroom cloud in the background.

Odd Thomas

You're slightly blurry in this video; I've done reactions myself and had this with my camera so I know how annoying it is for you lol

Larry Darrell
>>118400312

That wasn’t one of my complaints either, which there were a number of. My Biggest complaint was actually the pacing of the film. It was like the whole adventure took place over a quick weekend. Then the CGI. Funnily, I’ve never understood people’s problem with the raft scene. There’s a Real Raft falling out of a Real Plane, inflating in the air, and landing on the snow hill. All in One Shot. Now if you want to talk about the Cliff… That’s different. ;-)

WastedPo
>>118400312

I will go to my grave insisting that it's quite possible for Indy to survive in Temple of Doom after jumping out of a plane on an inflatable raft. The camera never cuts away, and it's apparent that as the raft is inflating, there's a parachute effect happening, to the degree where it's greatly decelerated by the time it reaches the ground. Plus, he's not hitting flat ground, but a snow-covered, inclined surface.

Stick Figure Studios
>>118400312

According to Mythbusters it's not possible (see attached link), but whatever. Criticizing that particular set piece is not the point of my comment. I get the explanations for why he could survive the life raft plane jump in the story just like I get the explanations for why he might survive a nuclear blast in the refrigerator in the story. I'm willing to believe both of them for the movies, but I'm not willing to try either in real life. That's my point. I still think they're both ridiculous and on a continuum of suspension of disbelief. I mean, sure, maybe one requires a bit more suspension than the other, but the difference I think is marginal and seeing people get all up in arms over it is what mystifies me. It's still a great sequence not worthy of the derision it receives. https://mythresults.com/episode37#:~:text=It%20is%20possible%20to%20jump,and%20the%20Temple%20of%20Doom)&text=Any%20attempt%20to%20use%20the,the%20raft%20in%20free%20fall.

Stick Figure Studios
>>118400312

Yeah, the film has other problems certainly, but the fridge scene just seems to be the thing that people zeroed in on.

Gábor Árki
>>118400312

I also think the raft scene has some realness to it, maybe due to the practical effects, but it just makes it more believable. I have no doubt it would probably be deadly anyway, or the very least cause severe injuries. Although there have been some crazy falls is real life that at least would make it a remote possibility of surviving such event. For example, stewardess Vesna Vulović fell more than 10 kilometers from an exploding jetliner. She survived, but she had severe injuries. With the fridge scene the believability is just on a different ballpark for me. The explosion has such an intense shockwave that it destroyed entire buildings. Not even going into the aspect of heat, it should have simply crushed the fridge itself. Even if not, such a blast causing the fridge to be picked up and flown kilometers away should have caused a sudden and intense acceleration followed by another sudden deceleration during landing. And that landing has anything but soft, they haven't shown us anything on screen that would indicate it has been softened at all. Lastly, just the CGI itself adds a level of fakeness to it.

Stick Figure Studios
>>118400312

Even if the raft scene were more "real," what about the other scene in TEMPLE OF DOOM where the minecart jumps from one set of tracks to land perfectly on another set of tracks to continue on its way? Or the aforementioned plane/car/tunnel gag in LAST CRUSADE? These moments have no more realism than a Warner Bros. cartoon, but they are still fun and humorous and thrilling (and don't have a tenth of the visual power or thematic weight as the nuclear blast scene does) and yet nobody makes a stink about those. Feel free to pick whatever moment from each Indy film (because each one has one) that is a bridge too far in terms of "realism" and insert those in place of my other examples instead. I still don't get the vitriol aimed at the fridge scene.

Larry Darrell
>>118400312

If a Special Effect is done practically, meaning something real in front of camera, including miniatures, props or real stunt performers, then it is 100% more believable to me than anything that is done in Post with CGI. Even if the Action is unbelievable or unrealistic or impossible in real life, if the Effect is executed for real in front of the camera, my brain knows that it is real, therefore it is true, it is realistic, it is believable. Watch, The Rains Came (1939) for a more believable flood scene, than any major studio disaster film in the past 20 years. In Camera Tricks and Matte Paintings, I find more realistic than a computer backdrop. Watch, Blade Runner (1982) or Black Narcissus (1947). What I’ve never understood is why Hollywood can’t make films like they used to. Just because there is such a thing as CGI now, they HAVE to use it. I hope there’s a Resurgence one day with the Old School ways, and they give CGI a break. When I went to the theater to see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I thought I would be seeing the same kind of Indiana Jones Effects as the 3 films before. I was Naive at the time.

Larry Darrell
>>118400312

Hey Stick. Didn’t mean to derail your original point. I understood what you were saying, but didn’t make myself clear. This is a hard medium to converse in. To bring it back to the beginning. For me, I never had a problem specifically with the Fridge scene. On paper I'm sure it sounded great. It was the amount of CGI that was used before it, during it and after it that turned me off. I agree the Mushroom Cloud with Indy in the Frame shot, was a beautiful shot, but maybe a little Too Perfect, for what I expected from an Indiana Jones Film. I brought up the Raft scene, because I thought it would be a good comparison. The Raft scene is also a scene that has been brought up by many as being unbelievable and unrealistic. Compared to the CGI in the Fridge scene, in the Raft scene, from Plane to River, the only Graphic Special Effect we see is Superimposing, I believe, (I'm no expert), which used Real Elements all the way through. As I said in previous reply, this equates to Believability and Realism. Again for me, (not trying to change any minds), the CGI Fridge, meaning Not Real Fridge, flying what might be miles through the air, and then bouncing along the ground, then spilling Indiana out of it, to be greeted by a CGI Gopher, meaning Not Real Gopher, and then walking up the hill to see the CGI Mushroom Cloud, Not Real... All this CGI equates to Unrealistic, Unbelievable, and Impossible in my mind for the whole scene and movie. It makes me feel like I'm watching a Feature Length Cartoon, as opposed to a Realistic Movie with Real Humans and Real Action, with the occasional short Comedic/Horrific Graphic Special Effect, that doesn't take me completely out of the Realism. I'm 'bout to make another post and go off on another tangent. You've inspired me. Thanks.

Larry Darrell

I Think... CGI changed the way movies were written. Before CGI, Films were written with Practical Action in mind or if they had Grand Fantastical action scenes or Imaginative direction, in the development stage, the filmmakers would decide what was doable, and a lot of times, would come up with some amazing and unique techniques to create a certain Special Effect. (i.e. George Melies, Star Wars, Alien, Blade Runner, The Thing, An American Werewolf in London, Raiders of the Lost Ark...) If not, then the scene was re-written to be done in a more Practical way. Now, it seems most films are written impractically, and instead of the filmmakers eliminating a lot of the Fantastical Elements and getting Creative to do the Fantastical in a Realistic Way... they just decide to do everything with CGI. The thinking is that there is No Limit to what can be created using CGI. Whatever You can Imagine. The Problem is that no matter what is created with CGI, in many peoples minds, it will always be a Two-Dimensional Cartoon. Rarely does CGI blend with Live-Action so well that you think it's real. I say Rarely, because I admit there are some exceptional cases. The New Planet of the Apes Films for one. In regards to Indiana Jones... I never would have thought Indiana Jones needed a bunch of CGI. We had 3 Films already, that were MOSTLY Real Action, Real Stunts, Practical Effects with the occasional Short Graphic Special Effect. The use of Miniatures greatly enhanced the Realism as well. A Small Miniature Explosion with Real Fire will ALWAYS look More Realistic than anything CGI. I just watched the beginning of Crystal Skull for the first time since the theater, and this is what CGI things I noticed in the first 30 minutes or so. Gopher CGI warehouse as they walk in (Why?) Flying Gunpowder, shotgun Pellets CGI Lights Moving Lights Metal objects pulled across the floor Floating Dog tags Exploding boxes when truck hits them Falling through CGI glass The Rocket Gophers Again Nuclear Bomb goes off Blast Wave destroys town, car CGI Fridge flying through air, bouncing along ground Gopher… Again Mushroom cloud with Indy in frame CGI buildings, planes, cars, and I’m stopping now Also something overall I noticed. There was some Effect over the whole movie that made it seem "Cartoony." It was like I was watching a colorized Sin City. Someone else on here mentioned TinTin and I agree it had a TinTin feel. None of this was needed for Indiana Jones. I can't help but wonder if this script had been written in the 80s or early 90s, and went into the development stage... which of those things in the above list would have been eliminated and which ones would be kept in, and how would they have tried to accomplish them. I say try to accomplish them, because Practical Effects failing on set was a regular occurrence. The filmmakers would then have to get Creative in order to achieve their shot. See... Jaws (1975). Imagine if Jaws hadn't been made in the 70s, but was made in the last 10 years. That's a scary thought. PS: Two Films I mentioned earlier in a reply to Stick, that should be viewed to see what can be accomplished Practically and Without CGI. The Rains Came (1939) Black Narcissus (1947)

I thought watching this movie again with you Cassie would make me like it more. Since you tend to see the positive in things. But nope. Still didn’t like this one that much. Way too campy. Much more than the original trilogy. Didn’t really care for Shia as Indy’s son. Not sure why Spielberg was so gung-ho about him. I did like bringing Marion back. She’s great. And I knew you’d enjoy the rekindled romance. I’m pretty sure you recognized Galadriel (a.k.a. Cate Blanchett). Ultimately, I’m glad you watched the movie Cassie. Now you can watch the 5th installment to finish off the series.

I agree with most of your thoughts here, except for the part about real fire looking like an explosion. The problem is, many film makers are making the *wrong* kinds of explosions look like fire, just like you suggest. Most bombs, for example, are not like fire. Its not the heat that kills you, its either the force of the blast destroying your body, or the force launching shrapnel or other objects into/onto you.

Larry, I think the town being destroyed was miniature as opposed to CGI. It might have had a CGI overlay for the cloud/fallout/explosion, but I'm almost certain the town itself in that specific shot was a miniature. A long time since I watched the making of.

To be honest, only Raider & Crusade are good movies. The rest are only fun to watch popcorn movies

Indiana Jones might be scared of snakes but I am a snake enthusiast. One of my favorite animals. Definitely my favorite reptile.

For me, this is my least favorite, but a mediocre Indiana Jones movie is still worth watching.

Poor Cassie! I hope that nasty cough is better by now! Since you‘re such a big Harrison Ford fan (Who isn‘t?), you really should watch „Regarding Henry“. In my opinion his best acting performance right after „Witness“.

Cassie, you need to watch the Last Indiana Jones that recently came out. I have heard a lot of negative reviews. I thought it was decent. It was kinda of a closure movie in my opinion. It is well worth watching.

They needed to stop after the "Last Crusade".

Indiana Jones and the dial of destiny Was an abomination! What they did to one of the greatest characters in all of filmdom, Henry Jones, Junior, in favor of Phoebe Wallow was beyond insulting To one of the greatest adventure series ever made
