Nerd Jared

What a....weird...movie

Bill Maurer

I would highly recommend watching the 1950's original "Thing from Another World". An all time Sci Fi classic Great reaction !!!

J.J

Finally, one of my favorite movies! And I'm impressed she's watching alone!

Michael J

Not my thing, I hear good things though. Im like a Friday to The Exorcist to Halloween to Hill House to Shinning type guy,,,,,, and like 800 more but.. ?

Michael J

Not my Thing,,,, not sure why I saw that as funny

Robert Jewell

You brave darling. At the finale I don't think either Mac or Childs are things. It's a brilliantly done film about paranoia, but don't think I would have suggested it for you to watch since it's so visceral and terrifying in such an grotesque way and don't worry, all Huskies are still wonderful people. I tip my hat to you..

Matt O'Keefe

I am sure Cassie was hoping for something like The Creature From The Black Lagoon instead of this for a creature feature.

Robert Nelson

I first saw this when I was 13 or 14. Nightmares for weeks.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

22:30 "The most disgusting thing I've ever seen" You haven't seen The Fly (1986) yet Cassie!

Just Plain Bob

The Thing From Another World (1951) is a terrific movie in its own right and was based on the same novella that Carpenter used as the basis for this film. Carpenter was a huge fan of the film and it’s the 1951 movie that the children are watching in Carpenter’s classic slasher, Halloween.

But you can really see the influence The Thing (1982) has on Resevoir Dogs (1992), in that they are in that claustrophobic warehouse and they know one of them is not what they seem (in this case, an undercover cop to a gang of criminals) but they don't who who! Mr Pink "For all I know, you're the rat" , Mr White:"For all I know you're the fucking rat!"

Stan the Man

Hahaha. That was great! This movies effects are amazing. Rob Bottin! If only he’d start working again

Mark Daniels

Definitely a classic and definitely an inspiration for Stranger Things - I think they even refer to it/watch it on the show. Not to mention, it’s the basis for the game Among Us

Jeffery Parks

I'm sad Arachnophobia beat The Fly.

Jeffery Parks

I'm glad the cat lived and Margaret died. Very glad.

Javier Hernandez

The last discussion that Childs has with MacRready, out in the cold, you can only see one character's breath as they speak.

Richard Maurer

Now where are all the people who said this movie would be "too much for Cassie". Shouldn't you all be posting "Well, we were wrong again."?

I actually recommended it. But, it was a bit much for her. She had nightmares. She has gotten good at grinding through tough movies like this. She doesn't really enjoy them all that much. She is a trooper.

I know that people always bring this up as proof that Childs is the thing, but I tend to believe it's simply the circumstances that the scene was shot in that we don't see the breath. Why? Because when Bennings is obviously The Thing, and they're outside about to kill burn it, you can clearly see breath coming out of the actor.

If you look closely, there are at least 3 instances where you see breath from Childs. It wasn’t anything anyone was trying to hide. It looks like it was merely the difference in lighting between Childs and MacReady. There are other things done throughout the film, however, that I do believe were intentional and were meant to cause the viewer to question what they are seeing.

The Thing is my favourite sci-fi horror movie and a staple of my Halloween movie marathons. I genuinely appreciate Cassie for pushing her limits and doing his reaction for her fans. I've seen this movie so many times that I've become desensitized to it, but watching it for the first-time vicariously through Cassie's reaction recaptured the tension, paranoia, and scares. Thank you! Since Cassie has watched Halloween (1978) and The Thing (1982), and is familiar with John Carpenter's movies, I'd like to recommend The Fog (1980) starring Jamie Lee Curtis (from Halloween), and In The Mouth of Madness (1994) starring Sam Neil (Grant from Jurassic Park). In the Mouth of Madness is an under-appreciated "creature feature" horror and I've always been a fan because it was filmed in Canada in and around the Toronto area, and the creepy church in the movie was 20 minutes from my home growing up, and I visited it as a kid. I just thought that was so cool! It also features Hayden Christiansen's (Anakin Skywalker from the Star Wars prequels) first film role as a bit of movie trivia. I hope that these get on a Patreon poll for next year's October scary movies.

It clearly wasn't "a bit much for her" as she got through it just fine - saying it was too much doesn't make it true. I watched the full reaction and Cassie handled it, no problem. Yes it scared her, as any good horror movie should. And nightmares are a part of the horror game, not something to be worried about None of what you wrote changes the fact this movie, like every other movie she's watched, was not in any way too much for her.

Matthew Dunham

Scariest movie ever. John Carpenter is a genius who's only "fault" is that he was far too ahead of his time.

Mark Vaderr

Whether she liked it or not, I think that everyone who has been on her case to watch this movie should send her a big "Thank you" for finally doing so, and appeasing her fans.

Paul Stelter

Who would've guessed that a movie from 1982 would have characters named "Windows" and "Mac"? 😀

Ria Grix

Personally I think you were incredibly brave watching The Thing head on, first time I watched it I had to keep popping into the kitchen to make a cup of tea lol. I remember you doing those first few reactions ‘back in the day’ and now you’re full on movie buff! Watching classic 80s gore/horror movies! Wow!

Stevan Carter

The reason McCready laughed at the end was because he knew Chiles was the thing. He gave Chiles the bottle and he took a drink of it, so he was obviously not worried about getting infected by McCready at that point. Also, when they talk, McCrudes breath is visible, and Chiles' isn't.

I like how everyone is dancing around the question in my op but no one is answering it. Some people just can't admit when they're wrong, especially since admitting they're wrong would make it hard to post the same, boring "it's too much for Cassie!" comments next time a challenging movie wins a poll.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

I just saw an interview with Guillermo Del Toro and he said about John Carpenter's The Thing, "Ah! I would say, one of the top ten best scares of my life. I never understood why it wasn't successful, in Mexico it WAS successful. I saw it in a packed theater, and it was full of happy Mexicans seeing tentacles, and viscera, and liquids, and we were all screaming like we were at a soccer match!" I love that guy, one of these days you have to check out Pan's Labyrinth, it's got some horror elements but really it's a fairy tale.

Nonsense. Carpenter has stated that there is no clear ending, and has also affirmed supplemental materials (video games / comics) which show both as being human. Child's breath is hard to see due to lighting, but it's visible. Also, Bennings was the Thing, and his breath was clearly visible, so breath doesn't tell us anything.

I admit that last year, I advised Cassie this might be too much for her. But after I saw her survive Predator and some other scary flicks, I messaged her to say that she could probably handle it, but I would completely understand if she passed on it. Luckily for us, she reacted to it, and we are all better off!

Richard Maurer
>>119793190

Thank you, Raj. Admitting you can be wrong about something is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Patrick Flanagan

It IS nonsense. Everyone keeps repeating the same zombie fan theories. Why and how would a perfect copy of a human being breathe differently?
