[Full Reaction] Crocodile Dundee (1986)

Comments

Wes

Double feature tonight!

Michael J

lol,,, Should be interesting, and it was a fun movie. "Thats not a knife." 😊

Brian McGovern

I actually watched this the other day after watching TBR reaction. I think the second one loses a lot of its charm. Certainly not as funny in my opinion, but maybe others feel different. Edit. Cool. Carly watching with you. Hope she enjoyed it. Was hoping you both would watch.

Clay F

This might be a first watch for me. Can't remember. I do remember when the movie was released. It was a big deal. The second-highest-grossing film in the United States in 1986. Linda Kozlowski is beautiful. The sequel Crocodile Dundee II is 9% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Zane From Canada

"You call that a knife? This is a knife." 🥄 "That's not a knife. That's a spoon." "Alright, alright. You win. I see you've played knifey spoony before." 😁

Jason Dolan

A lot of people forget this screenplay was nominated for an ACADEMY AWARD (it lost to Hannah and Her Sisters which also won Best Supporting Actor for Michael Caine and Best Supporting Actress for Dianne Wiest)

Zane From Canada

Crocodile Dundee 2 is an excellent continuation of Mick's story, definitely worth watching. Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles? Well, to put it politely, it's another fun adventure that wraps everything up nicely with a happy conclusion. 😊

Kuskesh Haramzadeh

LMAO people STILL quote the "That's not a knife..." Sce ne to this day. What a classic 😎

Robert da Spruce

I know you watched all the films on your Dad’s list. But I seem to remember the movie Australia on your Mom’s list. It’s a sweeping romance starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. I think you and Carly would enjoy it Just a suggestion. Maybe next Australia Day perhaps

Story Archer

Am I the only one frustrated by being unable to find so many of the movies watched lately on any streaming platform? Prime, Netflix, Max, Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+, AppleTV... movie after movie isn't on any of them. Where are people getting this to watch along? It's starting to add up, paying for the streaming channels, the monthly Patreon dues AND then having to rent the movie just to be able to enjoy the reaction. Sorry, I adore our ladies with all my heart but it's really getting frustrating.

I go through stretches like that, but I’ve had access to the majority lately up in Canada.

Zane From Canada

BTW, the animal in question is a Cape Buffalo.🐃 Indigenous to Africa and imported to Australia in the 19th century. They're also as dangerous as a hippo and incredibly aggressive. Goring, trampling and even killing between 100 and 200 people per year.

Ben Livingstone

Apparently, Australian crocodiles get up to between 19 and 23 feet. Also, impossible to kill with a blade through the top of the head.

Kevin Townsend

Remember, don’t swim in any lakes when you go to Florida. Similar critters living down there.

Art of Free Speech

Notable not only for being a great movie, but for introducing Australian slang to the US. Before this movie came out, nobody said "G'day" or "No worries." Now, of course, they're part of standard North American vernacular.

Brent Petty

The actor who played Gus was Al from Die Hard.

Richard Higgs

Hope you react to the second movie, it is just as good as this one and maybe some of your questions will be answered.

Brent Petty

You two should react to more comedies together. Lots of fun to watch.

Gábor Árki

I wonder, can we hope for a European movie for Europe Day (May 9)? 🥺😄

Robert da Spruce

Fun reaction guys! Not sure if you know this, but Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski fell in love on the set of this movie and got married in real life. Although they did divorce after 20+ years of marriage.

Astraeos

I think a lot of people kind of diss on I, Robot, but I really like that movie. Can't wait for that reaction to post. This movie is definitely on the edge of being a classic. I really like Paul Hogan, and I especially like the references to this movie and to Australia in The Simpsons episode Bart vs. Australia

ENC SW DV Rush

This is just a fun movie - great reaction

Just Plain Bob

I remember when this was first advertised, thinking “The guy in the ‘put another shrimp on the barbie, mate’ commercials is in a movie?” This was also the movie I took my ex-wife to on our first date. Although the second movie wasn't as good at the first, it is still quite enjoyable. Shortly after filming the second movie, Linda Kozlowski (Sue) and Paul Hogan (Mick) were married. They remained married for more than twenty years. When asked about their "failed" marriage, Hogan said that they had twenty good years and he didn't consider that a failure. Apparently, despite the divorce, they remained close. PS: I highly recommend the documentary "Not Quite Hollywood", all about Australian cinema - particularly low budget/exploitation cinema (Ozploitation). I'm a huge fan of the documentary and Ozploitation films in general. PPS: I’d also like to recommend the movie “Rogue”, directed by Greg McLean for this October. Imagine “Jaws” but with a salt water croc and set in the outback instead of New England.

Daniel Fuchs

This is really a great film. And the sequel is worth watching.

Brian McGovern

The timing was pretty sweet as TBR did a reaction this week to this movie as well. They loved it as well. So glad they both loved this. I recommended it to Cassie about a year or two ago, but apparently there was some opposition to it on Discord. Not to worry. They have seen it now. That is really all that matters.

thomas king

Definitely watch the 2nd movie

Jimmy Reyes

This was my Crocodile hunter, the sequel is the best of of the 2. awesome!

Mike Lemon
>>127605717

I do it by not throwing away 25 years worth of DVDs and Blu-rays and ripping them to an external hard drive.

Mike Lemon

Cattle/beef - all of them Cow- mamma female Heifer- not-mamma female Bull- intact male Steer- castrated male, food animal Ox- work animal, usually castrated male

Jacob King

The trick to doing the Australian accent is to speak through your nose/top of your mouth. Once you’ve got that worked out flatten your vowels and add a rising intonation (uptalk) to the end of sentences. Finally, never pronounce the letter r unless it’s the start of the word. So, Carly would be Caah-lee with a long ah sound. Putting r sounds in is where Americans always get caught out.

Europe Day!? What a load of nonsense!!! What does that even mean, and who decided it would be May 9th? What does it signify?

Hail to the King

Please put the The Dish (2000) on the shortlist for next Aussie Day

Gábor Árki
>>127609034

Europe Day is a day that commemorates the vision of a peaceful and united Europe, especially within the framework of the European Union. It is celebrated on May 9 every year, the date of the historic 'Schuman declaration' that laid out the foundations for a new kind of political cooperation between European countries after two devastating world wars. The Schuman Declaration was put forward by Robert Schuman on May 9, 1950, which led to the establishment of the European Coal and Steel Community, the forerunner and the foundation on which the European Economic Community and then the European Union has been built upon.

James UK

Difficult to believe it’s nearly 40 years since I first saw this. Just a really good fun 80s movie. One I never tire of watching. The sequel is entertaining enough and well worth watching. It just doesn’t have the charm of this one, in my opinion.

Phillip Bates

This was fun! Your reactions were great. I've always liked this movie. Mick is charming and very likeable. The sequel is also really good. I'm glad that you both liked it!

"The shrimp on the barbie" tourist campaign is still one of the most successful in the history of Tourism Australia, but we find it funny because we don't actually use the terms "shrimp" we call them "prawns".

Brian McGovern

The guy who played Richard was not in The Santa Clause. I think you may have been thinking about Judge Reinhold who was in Beverly Hills Cop. They do have a similar look to them. The guy who played Richard also passed away a few years ago. Only 69.

Mojo One Thousand

Been a while since I have seen this. I am glad that Cassie and Carly got to watch it together. "Hoges" (as Paul Hogan is know to most Australians) was always that knockabout, larrikin bloke. He started out as painter on the Sydney Harbour bridge before turning to comedy and having a very successful prime time comedy show through the mid 70s, early 80s before moving into film with "Crocodile Dundee", with a very successful tourist campaign in between. Hopefully a few more Australian movie bob up every now and again, as there are some good ones out there. Being a part of this channel does make me think about Aussie movies I haven't thought about in a fair while because they might be good options. One such movie is "Dead Calm" a thriller with Sam Neill, Nicole Kidman, Billy Zane and a yacht.

ROBERT CLARK

You can swim with the Crocodile from this movie at Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin. The experience is called The Cage of Death. I plan on trying it out one day! I thoroughly enjoyed your jump scare by the way HAHA!!!

ROBERT CLARK

Another enjoyable reaction ladies. The sequel is also good I hope you both do another reaction. The 3rd film wasn't as well recieved but I think you'll both still enjoy it. The next 2 films have more of an action vibe.

Art of Free Speech
>>127616643

And since it seems nobody has bothered to tell them, that was a Water Buffalo in the movie, and they can be deadly.

Tara

I remember when everyone was wearing that hat… including me! 😂

2-Can

I have to disagree with our hosts. That was WAY BETTER than any Jaws jump!

AzraRillian

great reaction, happy you enjoyed it. The sequel is probably one of my favorite movies of my childhood. While this was more of a romcom type vibe, the next one is more of an action movie, but not too violent, not worse than something like Die Hard.

Kim Brink

You have to watch Crocodile Dundee II now :-)

Brett Richey
>>127605717

Same problem here. I actually own this on DVD but it's a UK copy and therfore PAL not NTSC. So the sync speed is out. I'd happily buy or rent a digital copy but not available on Amazon UK... so I'm really disappointed I can't watch this till one is available. It's like it's been blacklisted here in the UK. Oh well. Maybe soon.

JL_83

this one is always likable, no matter what era you watch it in

Story Archer

Since my last post regarding my frustration in a lot of recent movies not being available on the various streaming services generated a lot of sympathetic responses, I wanted to throw this out there. I've had a lot of success finding movies on the site at the link listed below. This is not an endorsement of the site or anything like that, just sharing a tool that has been useful to me in the past and has never given me any problems. https://gomovies.sx/ (If the mods have a problem with me sharing this, please feel free to take it down, but it's certainly not illegal or anything like that.)

Zane From Canada
>>127605717

Jeez! My condolences to you and everyone else having to shell out much needed income for streaming service after streaming service. And then only to discover they don't even have what you're looking for. I've been hearing this same problem being voiced by a lot of people. And the more I hear it, the more I think it's intentionally being done to get more of our money. 😔

Stick Figure Studios

I remember I was 10 years old when my dad took me to see this (I believe it was actually the first PG-13 movie I ever saw in a theater). I loved it then and I love it now. This was the surprise runaway hit of 1986, made an international superstar of comedian Paul Hogan and created a charming memorable character in Mick Dundee. The sequel is okay. Not as good as this one imo, but still worth seeing if you like this character I just want to spend more time with him. Anyway, fun reaction and good choice for Australia day. Another Australian movie you both might consider watching (as I know you will both love it) is STRICTLY BALLROOM. It was Baz Luhrmann's debut feature and although I'm not the biggest fan of his, I do adore that film.

Dioskur

I realy hoped to see TWO smiling faces when I clicked the link! Thats such a silly movie you need to have someone there to share the fun :) Ok lets do this

Zane From Canada
>>127616643

I mentioned it, except I said it was a cape buffalo. Both are pretty similar: big, black, horney, aggressive, and dangerous. 😄

Story Archer

Not sure if the ladies have heard yet about the scandalous affair (at the time) between Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski. Paul had been married for over 25 years and had five children with his current wife when the two met on set. He left his wife for Linda (who was about 20 years younger than him) and the two eventually married and stayed together until an amicable split 23 years later in 2013. Paul's first wife reportedly didn't speak to him for almost 17 years after he left her. A few other interesting tidbits: Paul Hogan co-wrote 'Crocodile Dundee' (and the sequel) and the screenplay won multiple awards, with him also taking home a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy. Hogan turned down the starring role in the hit film Ghost, choosing instead to make Almost an Angel. In the early 1990s, a Paramount executive pitched a concept of a Crocodile Dundee and Beverly Hills Cop crossover movie.

Odd Thomas

The sequel is decent enough but stop there. The third one is awful and the fourth one isn't really a Crocodile Dundee movie but rather a meta-comedy about Paul Hogan himself.

Larry Darrell

This is one of my Favorites. I love how reserved the film is. They could have been outlandish and made big “fish out water” jokes, but they didn’t. The whole film is Charming, especially Mick. I aspire to be Mick ‘Crocodile’ Dundee one day… or at least fully adopt his outlook on life. This World needs some more Mick Dundees. ———————————————- The actor who played Richard, was Mark Blum. (Not Judge Reinhold from The Santa Clause) He plays this type of character well. If Cassie & Carly ever get around to seeing the Comedies… Desperately Seeking Susan (1985)… starring Rosanna Arquette, Aidan Quinn and Madonna Blind Date (1987)… starring Bruce Willis, Kim Basinger and John Larroquette They will see Mark Blum again. PS: These films would be good for February. ;-)

Gábor Árki

I really enjoyed watching your reaction. It was more fun than I was hoping for. I had a hunch you would like Mick's charming and innocent character. "Crocodile Dundee" was actually inspired by a real-life person, bushman Rod Ansell. He became stranded in the Northern Territory and survived for 2 months with limited supplies and had to rely on his survival skills and his knowledge of the land to endure the harsh conditions. Paul Hogan loosely based Mick and his survival story on him. The sequel is not as good, but I do enjoy parts of it, and I'm sure you would too. I don't recall much of the third other than the fact I've seen it once.

Terry Yelmene

So enjoyable - he's a friend! Happy Australia Day!

Ryan Towell

This movie was huge when it came out, I was in junior high. As for when he said his croc was about 15-16 feet, they've been known to get up around 20 feet, so not to much of an exaggeration. Also Sue's NY "friend" isn't Judge Reinhold the guy from the Santa Clause

Rick Williams

Fun movie. I've always loved this movie. Great fun. Watch the second one for more of the love story. Thanks for being Carly along. She always adds to the fun. Great Reaction Ladies.

Canadianant

Always fun watching along with you two Sheila's. This was even more fun than I remembered and Mick is a lot of fun. This movie is a twist on the fish out of water trope because we actually get them both out of water first her in Australia mick in New York. Perfect timing for my day off . Cheers mates

Brian's Dog

It had our favourite Die Hard 1 sidekick (and 2 kinda) as the chauffeur.

Uncle Phoenix

The was such a great jump scare; and I think my new favorite Carly quote, “That is totally the swimsuit I’m hiking in, too.”

Aj R

You need to watch Crocodile Dundee 2!! :)

Joshua s. Jackson

You will love to know that the two main actors got married in real life.

Shane Myers myers

I remember when I first watched this film in October of 1986. I saw it at a theater in a Mall at Wichita Falls Texas during the time I was Stationed at Sheppard AFB for Crew Chief training. It seams just like yesterday. 😊

Keith Jones
>>127605717

If you have a DVD player, check out your local library, I get 20-25% of my watches from there free instead of renting

Gray

The Second film is very enjoyable too.

Russell Teo

That’s why 80s are awesome

Keith Jacobsen

Classic fish-out-of-water story, I watched this all the time on VHS when I was a little boy (was obsessed with the knife). "That's not a knife.....THAT'S a knife!" is a Hollywood classic line, everyone knows it and now so do you. As others of said the sequel doesn't fall off, you should watch that too. Fun Fact: Paul Hogan (Dundee) helped build the Sydney Harbor Bridge as a young man, visible in the background of the opening scene when Sue is talking on the phone.

YodatheHobbit

Never watched the whole movie before. For the most part he's a better guy that I would've assumed(minus the a few assaults).

Odd Thomas

Another iconic Aussie film: Picnic at Hanging Rock

Larry Darrell

Oohh, that’s a Good One. The Soundtrack is Amazing.

Eddie Perkins

"Crocodile Dundee is back in the wild. Paul Hogan and wife Linda Hogan have finalized their divorce, roughly nine months after Linda filed for the split after 23 years of marriage. Over the years, they starred in three Crocodile Dundee films together, starting with the original in 1986, and tied the knot on May 5, 1990". I guess she decided to go for her own Walkabout.

Luke Godfrey

Finally got around to watching this. I never get tired of watching this movie, and to watch it along with Cassie & Carly made it all the more enjoyable as I got to see their reaction to this gem of a movie that I first saw as a kid. I'm sure it's already mentioned, but I really hope they know about the two sequels, Crocodile Dundee 2 (1988) and Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (2001). They're both a must watch too! 🍿

Scott Macaulay

Back before the internet a reporter at the NY Times or other top paper was a prestigious job. Look at Lois Lane's apartment in Superman.

Zoo

I hate watch-a-long syncing, but despite that I had to join your Patreon for this. At 10 yo I saw it in the movies 4 times! Used up all my allowance and did lots and lots of jobs/chores to afford it. First film I saw more than once at the cinema. Had posters from the film all over my room too, and later bought the soundtrack.

Jimmy Reyes

Crocodile Dundee 1 and 2 are movies that are married together, after 1 he doesnt go back to Australia; he stays in NY with Sue. 2 is the conclusion to the story started in 1.

Daniel Mooney

Loved your reaction..2 is bloody good to. Never bother with 3 sad to say. And Canada day 1st of July?

Daniel Mooney

Absolutely adore your perspective and such...was a different time and still besides Lord of the rings...my favorite ever 💛

John A

Had not seen this in many years, it was great watching it once again.
