In last month's Patreon-exclusive poll on upcoming topics for History-Makers, your top 3 favorites were Anna Komnena, Shakespeare, and Confucius! And so the next three History-Makers they shall be!!! Stay tuned for Shakespeare in April and Confucius in June!

But for now, enjoy this look at the history of Anna Komnena, a writer who now stands very high on my list of "People Who Are So Damn Cool I Can't Process It".

Man, this past month is really not helping my growing adoration for the Byzantine Empire...

I'm really glad ya'll covered her biography. She is definitely one of the most interesting historians of that era.

I had never heard of her, before your video. Though to be fair, I'd never cared about the Byzantine empire, before I found your channel. Please, both of you use my patreon money to by yourself a drink. You damn well deserve it.

Ordered a copy of The Alexiad, from Thrift Books. Looking forward to reading. Thanks for the introduction. :)

Heya Blue! A podcast I listen to The History of Byzantium, just had an interview with a professor Lenora Neville about Anna Komnene and sheds some interesting light on her role in supposedly trying to overthrow her brother! (Short answer: she apparently didn't) really cool stuff overall! Love the content with my Greeks, Romans and Byzantines and others! Keep up the awesome work! https://thehistoryofbyzantium.com/2021/02/16/episode-224-the-coup-of-anna-komnene-with-leonora-neville/
