This is one of many images where an artist will be allowed to create a character for ATKM; right now we're letting them create Raven Knights. This is the tiger Mazer.

Mazer is a young tiger who spent most of his life as a Rune Blade. Born in the Levarin forest of Harimal, his family fought alongside the Rangers of Harimal during the Baptism of Fire.

As a youth he grew tired of the prejudice tigers receive in Levarin society and despite being welcome amongst the elioudan in Harimal, he set off to find his own destiny in Theria. His talent with the blade and training to control and utilize his quintessence gained him notice by the Librarium and he spen many years of his life as a Rune Blade for the Librarium in Brisby.

His work as a Rune Blade saw him encounter Ravens of the Order many times. As such he had a fierce rivalry with a young Raven Knight named Cotter. The two would often butt heads and duel one another in pursuit of their conflicting goals. Mazer had great respect for his Rival, despite the Librarium's well documented resentment of the Orders oversight and interference in their affairs.

Mazer's view of the Librarium and the Order would change when he and his mage and cleric, Hillary and Daud were sent to investigate rumors of an pre-cataclysm artifact thought to be Eternian in origin. The artifact turned out to be a 'spirit beacon', which allowed those with power to track the specific quintessence of a person or groups of people marked by the beacon. In tampering with the device, Hillary marked herself and many innocent bystandards, incouring the wrath of an elderian beast. The beacon having been used in ancient times to mark dangerous mages who escaped from the Prisons of Brightrock.

After a eight grueling nights of being hunted by the beast many of those marked were viciously killed. Daud was viciously gored by the beast, losing the party their healer and protection magic. Eventually exhausted and defeated Mazer and the four survivors, including Hillary were corned by the beast. All seemed lost until three Raven Knights arrived, lead by Cotter. The Knights fought hard to save the group and though two were lost and another was grievously injured; Mazer and Hillary survived the ordeal.

Cotter had fallen, sacraficing his life to save them all. His companion a younger Raven named Linus was all that remained of the trio. Seeing the death and destruction caused by their meddling with things that they did not understand, Mazer came to realize the true dangers the Order defended against. Mazer was dumbfounded when Hillary wished to keep the artifact and return it to the Librarium for further study. She argued with the beast slain, it was no longer a danger. Linus however disagreed, informing the duo that if they were to be marked again another of the beast would show up. Hillary, believing that the Raven was trying to trick her refused to give the artifact up. Making the decision that would change his life, Mazer struck Hillary with the back of his blade knocking her out. He left the mage in the care of the two other survivors and left with the injured Linus to return the dangerous object to the Order.

Upon his arrival in Bast with Linus, Mazer was met by the former Primus of the Order; Lord Garrett Jestane. The Primus had heard of Mazer from Cotter, who had many times suggested he be recruited to the Order. Upon hearing the story of Cotter's death, Garrett extended an invitation for Mazer to honor the fallen Raven's memory and take up a mana brand in defense of the realm. Feeling a new sense of understand of the world and responsibility to his fallen rival; Mazer accepted.
