IMPORTANT! Switching from Per Creation to Monthly Model (Patreon)
Content
I wanted to let all of you know about a change I'm making because of Patreon's plans to discontinue the "Per Creation" model, which this Patreon project is currently using.
Cyberpunk Maps is switching from “per creation” to “monthly” billing on Patreon by the end of the year or as soon as Patreon's support team gets this done, but on the 1st of October at the earliest.
There's more details below, but here's a brief summary:
When moving to the monthly model, the current tier prices are multiplied by 4 (same as the current number of paid posts per month)
Your membership will be adjusted to monthly pricing, but you will pay the same as you are paying now, and you will be charged on the first of the month, like now.
If you have set a monthly limit, this will be respected. Your adjusted monthly membership price will not exceed your current monthly maximum.
As the tier pricing changes, it is likely that I will have to do some changes to the tier rewards as well—more about these as things progress and I know more.
I will keep you updated on the progress and any further information I receive from the Patreon's support team.
Why Now?
I think that discontinuing the "per creation" model is something Patreon has been working towards for some time already. For example, most of the new features are available only for the monthly model.
Now that Apple has announced that all payments on the Patreon App need to go through Apple's payment systems and that it supports only monthly subscriptions, Patreon apparently found a good reason to finally remove the "per creation" model.
Patreon has announced that all "per creation" patreon projects will be changed into the monthly model by November 2025.
This is still a year away, but I think this is a good point for me to make the change, as Cyberpunk Maps has turned from an uncertain side project into a steady project with four regular monthly releases. I feel this would provide new opportunities to make something new with Cyberpunk Maps.
What will change?
This means that every month, you will have a consistent price for all of the rewards you are getting now, and it won’t fluctuate based on the number of paid posts that month.
Your membership will be converted from a “per creation” amount to a “monthly” amount, and you will remain on the same tier you are on and receive the same benefits.
What If You Have Set A Monthly Max?
If you have applied a monthly limit to the number of posts you pay for each month, this will be respected in the new pricing model.
For example, if your monthly limit is 3 paid posts per month and you have subscribed at the $3 Street Samurai tier, your new pledge would be $9 per month (3 x $3 = $9).
Your adjusted membership price will be maintained as long as you continue to use your current payment method.
However, this may result in a monthly membership that is lower than the new monthly price of that tier. If you would like to make changes to your membership, it’s easy to modify the membership amount within your tier or switch to another tier.
Below are guides to help you do this:
Increasing your payment amount
New Tier Pricing
Patreon's option is to apply a multiplier to the current "per creation" pricing based on the monthly paid posts.
I have released four maps per month on average, so the multiplier for Cyberpunk Maps will be x4.
Below are the new monthly tier prices after the multiplier:
Nomad - $4 per month (currently unavailable to new patrons)
Street Samurai - $12 per month
Cyber Ninja - $20 per month
Corpo - $40 per month
Tier Reward Updates
Unfortunately, the new pricing does not offer the same flexibility as the "per creation" model and will require adjustments to the tier rewards and benefits.
These changes are still a work in progress, and I will keep you updated as the details are clarified. It is very likely that I will match the rewards with my Miska's Sci-Fi Maps patreon. This would mean that:
Nomad - Map packs
Street Samurai - Foundry VTT modules (latest 4 modules)
Cyber Ninja - Assets, tokens, other extra content, full access to Foundry VTT modules
Corpo - as now
But, I emphasize that this is still a work-in-progress and does not reflect the final updates.
Benefits of the Monthly Model
First of all, this change provides you with consistency and clarity to your membership. Second, this offers me the flexibility to consider more varied content.
For example, the "per creation" model does not work well for larger maps or experiments with new content. With the new monthly model, I hope to add some variety to my upcoming releases.
Next Steps
Next, I will put this process underway and wait for more information from Patreon's support team. I will keep you posted on the progress and any further details that come up.
Thanks for your understanding! I wanted to inform all of you now to provide plenty of time to make any adjustments before this takes effect.
While this is a big change, and I would have preferred doing this on my terms, I feel this will benefit Cyberpunk Maps in the long run.
Please reach out or comment if you have any questions.
