“i haven’t done my time, i still gotta finish this album” 😭😭 the problem with this album is it constantly builds to nothing, just an edging album. i think in part because the production is built around the way too wordy lyrics. i think florida could have been more interesting as a florence only song with reworked lyrics because her vocals outshine taylor’s on it imo. aside from that, i think there are some songs like the black dog or loml that are fine but i don’t care enough about the lore for this album to care or want to revisit, especially knowing so much of it is pining/resentment for a literal racist rat man. also lyricism wise it’s the same problem i have with taylor as always, she can have a really good lyric and then it’s followed by the absolute worst line ive ever heard. i also think when you are working with a producer that calls you a God he would never question, you’re bound to get flat work from everyone involved.

The thing about Taylor is that the production of her songs and the vocals is always secondary compared to her lyrics. It's almost a non-factor to be honest, cause Swifties only care about her songwriting. Production and vocals basically don't matter that much when it comes to her, so that's probably why she and Jack Antonoff barely put any effort into making something interesting or unique. Just boring beats and thin vocals, and even the lyrics for some of these songs are cringey or not all that.

She was one of few actresses successful enough to survive the transition between silent films and the “talkies.” Studios just had her on retainer. She was widely talked about, which means she was also widely criticized. In the height of her success, she was also facing backlash because being beautiful meant she was “easy.” The song reflects on how all women in the music/film industry are compared to someone at the the beginning of their career, but they HAVE to be better, more entertaining, prettier, edgier, etc to stay successful in the eyes of the general public. I love that the message of the song parallels “The Lucky One” from her Red album

This is an album that keeps growing on me the more I listen. I vibed with The Anthology way more on first listen, though (different producer). She’s definitely had dancier, higher energy, and catchier songs, but I think this project was supposed to be more chill.

Why falling in love When you can fall asleep

Taylor doesn’t just make songs. She makes self gratifying songs. She thinks that her writing, which has nothing to gloat about, is enough for her to just neglect other aspects of the song. There’s nothing interesting and all of it ends up sounding the same but she doesn’t care because of ✨🤪metaphors🤪✨

Genuinely speaking though, if you love production, I know it’s a long shot but Reputation is one of my favorite albums just because it’s SOOO different from everything she’s done in my opinion! I know you probably won’t do it but it’s just a recommendation coming from someone that also didn’t enjoy this album for the same reasons you didn’t… 🤗 Much love and kudos to you for putting yourself through this ! 🥰🥰🥰

Before Folklore, Taylor worked a lot with Max Martin and you can really tell how much worse her production has gotten without him it’s crazy Jack produced most tracks in this album and in folklore, evermore and midnights

Red was produced by the ICONIC Max Martin but unfortunately she hasn't worked with him in a while. the second half of this album is produced by Aaron Dessner (from The National) and imo he suits Taylor WAY better than Jack. i love the second half of this album, this first half was okay. i appreciate you reacting to it lol. speaking of Florence though, i know you're reacting to Ethel Cain soon and let me just say she is like Florence's musical daughter and i think you'll LOVE her.

The songs on here with Aaron Dessner weren’t as bad and I definitely preferred them more but with the amount of love and praise and accolades Jack Antonoff gets, this is shockingly abysmal. Got me seriously questioning how he won producer of the year the last three years in a row. If he’s nominated again or this is nominated for AOTY, I might lose it

As I was watching and listening, I was trying to genuinely and openly understand the appeal of her and her music and why people go up for her so hard (especially in terms of putting her above girls like Ari or Bey) and, no shade, I think it’s the musical equivalent of when people don’t like too much spice or seasoning in their food. Maybe for them, it’s doing too much or is too overwhelming and all the things we love about our girls’ music (harmonies, vocal arrangements, interesting production, etc.) detract from the listening experience and the simplicity is what they crave. I started falling asleep during LOML and woke up during the next song because the chorus or whatever the beat drop was sounded like an alarm (one of those ones that sounds fun/cool when you’re awake and choosing the ringtone but makes you wanna throw your phone across your room when it plays to wake you up). I need Jack or whoever the producer was to be LOCKED OUT of all studios 😭😭

ily hahaha thanks for doing this. sad that it didn't connect w you much. the 2nd half is way better to me, bc she worked more with aaron dessner of the national & he creates the most lush, colorful soundscapes & her songwriting really shines more over that type of production. so hopefully you'll enjoy that more haha. if you don't, it'll pain me so bad bc this album is so incredible to me but i just appreciate you being honest! taylor isn't for everybody but i'm glad you can give her credit where she deserves it! 💘💘💘

Yea “The Anthology” is the better version because it’s less Jack and more Aaron Dessner who sees Taylor’s lyrics more colorfully & produced on a wider scale. Also there are more live instruments in Anthology and Jack is so comfortable w/ his compressing production style that he uses w Taylor, Lana, & Lorde. Even as a swiftie, I’m tired of Taylor working w Jack coz he keeps her in the same comfort zone when she’s done albums like Red & Evermore.
