Mello

Jordan is actually mixed (but part Maori on his father's side, white on mother's), but yeah, he's spoken both on being white-passing and growing up in a rich neighborhood. You really hit the nail on the head, as both Illusion and Clouds cover these topics in abstract terms, and about whether a human being can grow beyond their upbringing, their privilege, and limitations. This is such a beautiful, thoughtful album about the human experience in general. Owning up to our mistakes, recognizing our traumas, and trying our best to grow and move through life. But also recognize that healing and growth won't always happen on our own timeline. One detail that gets me really emotional is that little offbeat note plinking away in Runaway that the song builds around. It stumbles, but persists. Just like us.

Yes, Jordan plays multiple instruments. While multiple people were a part of the production, he is always heavily involved, providing guitar, bass, bass guitar, keys, etc. for different tracks on this album alone. You can tell he loves that side of things bc of how he leaves so much room for just the instruments, and his willingness to fade his voice into the background so often. Half of The Flood is just that! lol

Coming to the close of this reaction, this is his fourth studio album, but he's been putting out projects since 2013. And he has definitely studied James Blake. Each project he's done is something different, like the very groovy, disco-infused, and dystopian Origin a year before. I just wanted to say thank you, Maya for always being so open with your thoughts, and I always love your ear for music and how you feel out tracks. I knew I made the right choice following you years back, and your content has only improved since then. If those slots ever open up again, I'll be gunning for one haha But in the meantime, I'm so excited for your own projects taking off, and for you being able to work on them. I know this is a lot of words already, but I'm here to keep supporting you as a recording artist -yes, a Recording Artist- in her own right. Thank you again.

Awwww, you are the glue ma'am. You give glue energy. Like Mello, I rock with you so hard. I love your ear when listening to artists. I'm also very excited watching your process. Take your time mamas! We are here for your blossoming. Youbhave such a beautiful voice. Weird: I know she doesn't have the "best" singing voice, but have you ever considered doing a deep dive on Janet Jackson? Also, my new favorite group right now Little Dragon. 😁 Love them.

Also, I'm thankful to (was it Mello) for introducing us to Ena Mori. "King of the Night" gets played in this Vegas house once daily as a pick me up. "All we need is the crown on our head. All we need is ourselves."

Jordan Rakei is so underrated! He was featured in Disclosure’s Caracal album. The song was called “ Masterpiece. ” That song is sooooo good!
