h wrote this album AND filmed it’s companion visual movie WHILE pregnant with their child and before they got as sick as they did. it’s about “the joys and tragedies of pregnancy and childbirth.” the cover references a very famous artwork that originated the “Madonna/Whore Complex”. it’s a FASCINATING concept.

for writing, h wrote every song on this album. John Cunningham was her original collaborator and wrote on three tracks, those being the ones with Demos on the deluxe. as the album took shape, Trent Reznor (the father of the Industrial genre) and his partner, Atticus Ross, both of who make up Nine Inch Nails, were brought on to produce the entire record (and reproduced the Demos). they also reproduced two of h’s biggest singles (Gasoline and Nightmare) for a Live show as “Reprise” editions of the tracks, which are now the only versions of those songs h plays live. lastly, Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac helped produce and write on Darling. hope this helps!!

btw, The Great Impersonator’s Deluxe edition is FINALLY dropping tonight with six new tracks, highly recommend it!!

YEEES! HERE WE GOOOO! :) OK, album info dump and answers: - she did write the album. She wrote it with Trent and Atticus from nine-inch nails. She has a few demos when she reached out to them, and they saw something cool and decided to do this even when it's not their normal genre. - she wrote this album while pregnant, all stages. While also dealing with how the men in the industry were treating her at the time. Which bring in the "I want power aspect of the album" - there is a movie, I believe it is on amazon prime still. When they filmed the movie, the album actually wasn't even close to being finished but she had a vision and went with it. if you have time, it is a very fun watch. - this was her most experimental album and one of her favorites that she is most proud of, but it didn't see the chart success her label wanted, which caused suppression of future releases and then her next album was the great impersonator - darling was written for/about her baby but also a little nod to her fans. - 1121 was also written about her experience with her body and being pregnant after having had a miscarriage. - honey was originally a poem from her book - halsey is a bi queen!! - whispers is also talking about her dealing with her mental health and having bipolar. - she did tour this album and i was there if you wanna see any photos or videos haha - faves songs: all of them lmao

So excited to see you reacting to this! Halsey is really slept on as an artist imo.

Yeah I’m gonna need a Maya x Manic reaction please, just so you hear the big 3 and how different that is to this album to get to The Great Impersonator (which I know you’ve done, one of my fav reactions)

To answer your question about her writing being introspective and when it started, I would say it began with the album previous to this, Manic. Most people remember it for its commercial success because of Without Me but she was very open and honest about her emotions from dealing with mental health to opening up about her very public relationship and how it was abusive and how he had cheated on her. She also discussed fame in that album and trying to get back to her real self (Ashley) which is why it’s also referred to be an album by Ashley while Love and Power is more of a Halsey album. I really wish people appreciated her writing more especially with how self reflective is she’s not afraid to admit her faults. Anyway loved this video and i knew you’d enjoy this project. To me you asked for this is one of her best songs in her discography still and is what led to her making lonely is the muse in my opinion both lyrically and sonically. Anyway hope you get to tune into more halsey projects in the future!
