Hello Patrons!!

I have decided for this process post that I would post a VIDEO instead. A timelapse… But I will still write about it also.

I COMPLETELY forgot how to draw for this one. I wanted to make a companion drawing to my girl in the rain drawing where they look the same but with different vibe. So this girl is a bit messier and mm…. alternative. It starts out self explanatory: I get the sketch down and all that yadda yadda throw some fun colors in there as the base. Then my problems immediately start. I sketch out some basic colors to start rendering but then it simply turns to chaos. I do not know how to render. I pull up a bunch of references of people in profile and get to work.

They all look good! But for one I start doing linework on top and don’t realize that it isn’t a separate layer and it is too far gone to undo. So I just give up. The second to last one looks great!! But I just keep getting it so muddy and past a certain point I do not know how to clean it up and it’s way too orange and everything I do to it makes it look terrible. The last one I put some purpley GRAY colors down and it looks fine. She looks like a DEAD FISH but it’s fine. I render that a bunch more and more can’t get the profile right can’t get the eye shape right… Then I finish rendering and it looks great but I like the sketch more!!! So I turn the opacity of my rendered layer like to half way and then I just merge the sketch and final render together. I add a brighter and more orangey color on top of all of that to make her look less like a dead fish. UGH it will have to do!!

That being said, the hands were pleasantly easy to draw :-) I used my own hands for reference (as I did with the girl in the rain one) and that was that. I pulled colors from the face to use for the hands. Typically the darkest dark and lightest light. I was careful to not render the hands more than the face and tried to keep the contrast level similar.

The hair was pretty fun! I mostly just used a grungey semi-opaque brush for the base and then use a more detailed brush to carve out the silhouette and add details. Nearer the top, it’s just the base with a lighter highlight color. The bottom has a bit more purple that I simply found in the drawing, hiding, and I use that to make some shadows. I am really into drawing little squares in their hair and around the place to make the drawing kinda glitchy or geometric…

I wanted to draw something around her like the rain but was too stupid or something. I gave her some subtle tattoos instead.

I hope u like it.

Thanks for showing the timelapse! Super nice to see how you went about things. It's also reassuring to see that things wont necessarily turn out perfect the first try and it's okay to retry. Feels like we only get the perfect reels/tiktok processes out there without the gritty. Keep it up, would love to see more
