Hello Patrons!

Welcome to the September newsletter! I hope your August was pleasant and true and real. Let’s get into it..

Announcements:

There are still slots in all of my physical mail tiers, there are stickers and leftover calendars in my personal shop, and originals and prints via Gallery Nucleus!! The world is ripe with flesh.png merchandise.

Art, Life, Media, & Personal Section!

ART

I did a few projects this month, one which was terrible and awful but should be announced eventually, and one which was cool and fun which was @semoyed (& co)’s Over The Garden Wall fanzine! I submitted a drawing that I love and can’t wait to show you all!

I also painted my Motocat bike at long last this month and it was so fun. I still need to make the Motocat sculpture that will ride the bike, but it is a daunting task. I think I should sketch it out first and then use that as a template to-scale.. But that doesn’t sound fun. Maybe I’ll just wing it and see what happens.. like everything else. I plan to use a wire frame and build it up with tinfoil. Then use oven-bake sculpey. Will let you know how that goes!

Additionally, I am learning anatomy truly and really this time. My whole life I believed if you don’t want to learn with intention in art, you don’t have to. And I still believe that. But now I WANT to learn anatomy with intention. I bought the morpho anatomy book and muscled bodies book and they are not great. It’s good basics, but doesn’t teach you very much at all. Like it is 80% sketches (which are helpful) but I actually want to learn about the skeleton and the joints and where muscles connect to the skeleton. Otherwise it’s not very helpful.

I decided to go to ole reliable and I am gonna watch some of Proko’s (on YouTube) videos about anatomy. He goes into much more detail and he is amazing. Then I will know what I am missing and work from there.. But anyways I’m attempting to learn all of this so I can draw superheroes better and really that’s the only reason. I don’t want to draw them by just guessing anymore. I have actual and real commitment. And it is so fun!

TV/MOVIES

I watched the Odyssey and for maybe 72 hours I was really invested in Matt Damon and watching his entire filmography but then the 72 hours passed and I went back to not really caring. But I do want to watch the Jason Bourne movies again. I also watched Spider-Man Brand New Day and it was mid. I know it made one trillion dollars but guys, is it just me or was it just ok…. Maybe I discovered that I never actually really cared about Tom Holland Spider-Man. However, I did rewatch all of the Sam Raimi Spider-Mans and I enjoyed those in all their campy glory. Maybe next I’ll watch the other guy Spider-Man movies but who knows. I am a Spiderverse Spider-Man truther. But I did like the Insomniac spiderman-ness of Brand New Day. I also watched the new Insidious movie and it was fine and I am so excited for the Resident Evil movie!!!

As for TV…well, I am still utterly consumed by The Walking Dead. I’m so consumed by it that I watched at least 6 episodes yesterday and also purchased two compendiums of the comic on ebay. We are on the season 10 finale after Negan killed Alpha and is having his tragic backstory. He is so mysterious and strange. I’ve never finished it so my predictions on what will happen: Negan must do something bold and heroic or something considering the finale is named after him. I have no idea what.. But he certainly won't die. Michonne is going to find wherever Rick is, but she won't find Rick... Or maybe honestly she won't even come back until whenever they find Rick. But presumably since the show’s almost over, she might find resources or those new storm trooper people are gonna help kill the serial killers Maggie brought with her (crazy of her to do btw). I am sure a tragedy will befall the groups. Then Rick will come back for one single scene at the last second of the show and smile slyly. I’ll report back.

GAMES

007 First Light really dive-bombed into something tortuous and unforgivable for chapter 7: Knightfall. Wow it was so boring just opening doors and dialogue so so boring. They shouldn’t have made that first mission where you do a car chase and shoot a bunch of guys and then jump out of a cargo plane, the bar has been set too high.

My Batman Arkham Knight journey temporarily slowed down because I was too into TWD but now I am almost done! Like I suspected, Barbara did not die and it was all in Batman's head, and the Arkham Knight is, well, Jason. I have an obsession with completing every single side quest to 100% but I am not going to do that. I have no interest in stopping bank robberies or blowing up the Penguin's weapon stashes. I remembered the Lego Batman game is next and I’m very excited for that so I might have to wrap this up!!! I also played Elden Ring two times this month in an attempt to get back in there. Who knows!

COMICS

Well yes it's true, we are getting our first comics section of the newsletter! Through my love of comic adaptations, whether that be TV, movies, or games, I have at long last found myself interested in comics themselves. I suppose the true start was through my admiration of Checchetto Daredevil art. This newfound obsession has burst out of me like, well I guess an explosion. I got the second volume of Zdarsky Daredevil for my birthday as well as the first compendium of Invincible which is what I’ve always truly wanted. This is like when my dad watched the second to last Harry Potter movie in the theater and immediately bought the book so he could know what happens in the end and well that’s the last book he ever read.

I just finished vol 2 of Daredevil and that was such an advanced version of Daredevil in that he is old and his biggest enemy isn’t a bad guy it's like, whether or not he has free will. He always kept getting out-woked by people actually affected by the system and then he realized it goes so deep, beyond Fisk, and he actually had to travel to Hell and kill The Devil. Next I started The Long Halloween and I am about halfway thru!! The art style is very good, Batman is so shadowy...

MUSIC

Absolutely nothing to report about music this month. I have been so tired of all of my music that I resorted to listening to the radio like it was yesteryear. Sometimes it’s nice to be forced to listen to music you would never think to listen to. Except when Taylor Swift or Noah Kahan starts playing. But I do like Billy Jack by Curtis Mayfield and Something He Can Feel by Aretha Franklin this month.

PERSONAL LIFE!

It’s true my birthday happened. I’m officially 28 just like Max Verstappen. We’ve both accomplished so much: Championships, worldwide recognition, millions of adoring fans, the best at our crafts.. I made 8 or so cakes for my birthday with my friend and got so many comics. What more could someone ask for..

A Personal Message to YOU

Tina Gomez

Watching Lanterns and omg it's soooo good! Also, I love Batman too! Odyssey was so good too! Happy bday!!! 🎂🎈🍨🎁💐🩷✨

I feel u on the spider man, not a tom holland girl but I am a sucker for tobey McGuire bahaha

flesh.png

I've been hearing discourse about how Tobey spidey was broke and so normal, trying to keep a job and being a loser lol. But Tom Holland spiderman is like... hey guys I'm Iron Man Jr!! And MJ and Ned are sorta nothing characters. We don't know much about them!

flesh.png

Woa I didn't even know that was a show that was happening... It looks like it is being well received..? And thank u!!!

flesh.png

Is Frank Miller the guy who everybody clowns on his art style??

orgalorg

Exactly!! Sony give them personalities again

Robin

I just finished the Long Halloween!! I adore the art style and think the story is solid. I’ve been studying comics and how they use lighting and negative space so I can use it in my own art!! My favorite comic artist is Mike Mignola, creator of Hellboy!!

natezface

Agreed with the morpho book unfortunately, Daniel Warren is goated with the screentones and linework. Invincible literally always increases my bpm so I think thats my favorite comic adaptation

SuJeong

I found Tom Fox’s book helpful for anatomy! And comics omg… I’ve been super into absolute wonder woman and cat woman… they are so awesome! Another graphic novel I really love is “it’s lonely at the centre of the earth”

mac

Comic suggestion: BUG WARS. Seriously cool book with good art! But my fav at the moment is CODA by boom studios, just looking at the cover made me buy the trade copy to see the fantastic art

Curly.Png

I used to read Garfield comics so much and have been wanting to do some silly little art for it. And on that topic of Spiderman, I really liked the new Spiderman mostly because we got to see a different side of him, last we saw a more intense peter was when he almost killed green goblin. Though personally I still like Tobey Spiderman out of the adaptations but nothing beats Spiderman Into the Spiderverse series anyways. Truly something else there with the video game moves we saw was really awesome....very needed tbh. I too turn 28 this year and idk what to do for fun for myself, maybe cookies or idk a good dinner maybeeee, cakes seem so daunting to me idk why , im so excited to get the cake stickers for thay very reason 😂🙌. Have a great one Chan And also whoever else reads this. 🫶

I work at a comics and games store but ironically dont read many comics myself lol. I do like to look at all the cool covers when new comics come out each week (processed those today yay!) and it always makes me want to read the comics. I have been eyeing Absolute Martian Manhunter recently though...

Moose Frog

I started reading comics more regularly this past month but I used to read a lot of comics as a kid either Disney comics like the Donald duck comics or some franco-belgian comics like Astérix, Tintin, Lucky Luke and even some Corto Maltese (most of them were and are my dad's comics). I'm currently reading Catwoman: Trail of the Catwoman by Darwyn Cooke and Ed Brubaker and planning on reading DC: The new frontier by Darwyn Cooke next or rereading Batman: Year One (I just LOVE Mazzucchelli's work).

Panni

I think my favourite comic is Do a Powerbomb! by Daniel Warren Johnson, it's so good, it is about a girl who joins an interdimensional wrestling tournament to try and get her mother back from the dead. His work always has such a cool mix of "this is sick as hell" and such emotionally moving stuff. Almost anything he makes goes so hard, i also like his Murder Falcon, Transformers and Beta Ray Bill comics

flesh.png

YES DANIEL WARREN!!!!! Invincible is so freaking good it is like … so epic. Epic in an unironic use. It makes me shake in my boots

flesh.png

I will look into the Tom Fox books!! Thank u for all the recs!

flesh.png

That is a very valid take on Brand New Day spidey! Like..depressed sad Tom Holland spider-man.. we’ve really seen every angle of that guy..emotionally. And happy early birthday! Making a cake or some cupcakes from a box mix is fun and easy! But cookies are also delicious and incredible. All of the above..dinner too..

flesh.png

Everyone and their mom is talking about those two!! It’s gotta be for a reason. One would think

flesh.png

Catwoman is so neat I need to get into her lore more.. She is so drawable!

flesh.png

Things that are equally sick and emotional are the backbone of society

I've read the first volume of absolute batman and loooved it, and absolute martian manhunter has some super cool art, which is what caught my attention for that one :] we will see though!

mio

omg i don’t even go here (i am a semoyed patron but always seeing ur cool stuff and so i have to hop on it…) i have SO many comic and spider-man opinions but i will try to keep it short! i’ve been trying to go through the amazing spider-man flagship issues, there’s hundreds and hundreds and so many different artists and writers, but right now i’m reading straczynski’s writing run and it is truly excellent. the best depiction of spidey’s humanity and struggles with his identity i’ve ever seen and i would describe myself as a mega webhead lol. if you are drawn to peter’s adult struggles with being broke and trying to find his way in the world you will love it!! i’ve cried over so many moments 🕷️🕷️

mio

his run is about 70 issues and i would recommend the arc with morlun, there’s a lot of crazy stuff about spider-totem lore

slugw0rm

Wika by Oliver Ledroit. Stunning maximalist art, 100% worth buying just to be in awe at the style and detail. Love the art for his Requiem series too. Sergio Toppi, complete collection. Absolute master of inking. I’m an artist casually, my partner is a character designer for Powerhouse Animation. We get more invested in the art than the writing though, so I don’t really have a favorite comic writer 😅

i do agree with you about spiderman. at first i really liked it bc i liked how angsty it was, but at the same time, i dont like how he is like iron man jr, and how MJ isnt really a character. she doesnt have a background we havent met her family or delved into her issues, we dont even know what shes studying in school!! where previous MJs have had aspirations & issues at home, tom holland’s MJ feels like just a prop 🥲 i do love spider-man, so after i saw the new one i watched all of them, and i found myself a lil disappointed.
