After completing my little Stranger Things kids series, I looked back on my first contribution, little El/Jane, and was not very happy with it. When I first drew it (photo 3), it was never meant to be part of a series, but instead just a very quick one-day messy drawing. After I kept drawing more, the artistic direction changed (sorta indirectly) and I spent more and more time on them to the point where this one did not really fit in!!! So I thought I would redo it a little bit. I also think the Mike one stands out a bit but not so terribly. Maybe I will darken the blue..

For this one, I started first just by fixing the proportions a bit. The eyes are lower and further apart. I also used more of the same techniques to clean it up a little. I made it more realistic (photo 2) like my more recent additions to the series, but Millie is just quite hard to draw, she has very unique features imo, but ones I can't really put my finger on, so if I can't capture them well, it doesn't really look like her. I actually think it looks like the younger CGI deepfake version of her in season 4 lol.

I wasn't mega happy with it, so I ended up making the shadow side of her face lower contrast and more geometric (photo 1). Not perfect by any means, but I think it ties it in super well to the background and I think it looks much better with the rest of the drawings in the series.

i especially like the effect around the big. monster. the name is currently escaping me but i think it makes it more dynamic

oh yes the mind flayer heheh. I used to do the chromatic abberation a lot but sorta forgot about it! and it also has a tendency to make things just look blurry but sometimes it needs it
