GOD OF WAR RAGNAROK: process + wallpapers! (Patreon)

Hello everyone!

Here is my god of war ragnarok drawing in full quality hq up close big huge file. I meant to show you a long time ago but I guess I forgot :/

Image 6: I sketched it out first in the notes app and it had beautiful loose lines that never ever end up in the final. Perhaps one day I will create a gesturely image.... I got the general idea for what goes where. Atreus was hard for me to decide... What will he be doing I asked myself....

Image 5: Ok we got a pretty good starting point. Kratos was much further along than Atreus. Almost completely mapped out the intricacies of his clothes and all that. Atreus got his body but I was unsure about the arms. I didn't want his silhouette to be confusing since his clothes are so detailed. I mostly wanted his arms to be separated. Should he be drawing his bow??? Holding the mask?? Getting his knife out??? 

Image 4: At this stage I knew I wanted this to be a lineart-based drawing with sorta like cell shading... Animation style... But I didn't want the lineart to be overwhelming so I made it much thinner but still with some areas of shadow. Atreus I have decided is holding a marble!!!

Image 3: This was a failure. I went too off the rails with the color. The drawing had a simple layer for base colors, then a layer for shadows, another for highlights, and another for deeper shadows. It was too much so I ended up I think with just a base, a medium shadow, and a dark detail shadow. (Plus some layers for creating more harmony......) This stage would be cool to render without lineart! More 3D.

Image 2: This was the final before I edited it and added texture. It was quite dark but it had good bones. I knew I was going to edit it to be much brighter. You can tell with this picture vs the 3rd that I took out the highlights.

Image 1: The final! I brought it into procreate and added paper textures from True Grit Texture Supply. Then I brought it into Lightroom and made it much brighter with lower contrast. Probably messed around a bit with color balance as well. Then it was done!!!

Overall I very much like it. I perhaps wish I had done a bit more with the background but maybe I'll draw them again later. Atreus' face is a bit weird. But I'm of the impression that my fanart is more vibe based than perfect accuracy.
