What is up patrons. Here is the long-awaited high-definition version of my latest Alan Wake in Fortnite piece. What some have coined, my magnum opus.

This is a traditional drawing on some thick textured sketchbook paper, perhaps a Stillman & Birn sketchbook, mostly done with colored pencil and pastel.

It started with a screenshot from Fortnite, not my own because I infamously don't own the Alan Wake Fortnite skin. I sketched it out with pencil. Here is a closeup of my text sketch. I sketched roughly with red lead and then a more refined sketch with normal graphite.

The fortnite font is really whimsical. Iconic.

The first thing after I sketched was doing the lineart. Very straight forward I just wanted everything... outlined. And I made Alan's darkest shadows solid black. Then, it was time for filling in the background. I chose the closest blues I had in my inventory of student grade colored pencils.

Ignore the trash in the photo, but it is actually interesting because I have misplaced that plastic thing and I don't know what happened to it. Good to know I had it while drawing Alan Wake in Fortnite, I can start a timeline.

Anyways, this is fully colored pencil. Idk what exactly possessed me do this, but I eventually go over the mid to dark blues with oil pastels. I think it brought the colors together a bit more, or perhaps it provided a good middle shade between the two. This is what it ended up looking like:

I think after this day I ended up expanding the darkness inward. It was much lighter in the middle than the reference. In doing so, I had to darken the area behind the text. I was distraught by this idea so I ended up just going over that area completely rather than try to work a thick pastel in the tiny crevices of the text. Later, I went over those areas of text again with a white posca paint pen.

And I don't have any photos of this part, but essentially I simply colored Alan himself by choosing colors of colored pencil variety and putting them where they belong (making sure to leave the areas that are highlighted blank.)

As I do in digital art, I also color over the entire figure with one similar light color to sorta homogenize it all. For his clothes I made the coloring sorta scratchy to add texture and show that I'm not trying to make this perfect. It is silly after all. Also.. Mr. Scratch..

I also went over his whole figure with some dry?? pastel of a brownish hue to make him softer...more full. Then I scanned him in my jank scanner and spliced the two halves together in photoshop..tweak colors a bit.

And there he is. I framed him in a glass frame and then I scratched him over in posca. I like him scratched out. It is like anger but also thematically in line.

I kind of want to sell him but I also love it.. Not sure as of now.
