Hey everyone! With Pink Gold (book 1) complete I'm going to be taking a short break before I start posting the next story. We have a few more commission chapters to go this month so you'll still have some reading material in the meantime.

We're currently working on Pink Gold (book 2) and have come up with a question for all you amazing patrons.

Both Harper and Ellie had some chances to shine in the last few chapters of book 1. Ellie found the plane that got them to their destination, then she put her technical knowledge to work and organized the rescue. Meanwhile Harper's interest in first-aid and health sciences paid off as he was able to work as the team's medic / healer.

Now we're wondering, do you folks think Harper and Ellie should become official members of the team? That is, should they get their own rings? Or no rings, leave them as love interests & non-magical support staff? So I've decided to make a little poll, to ask your opinions on the matter.

We're curious to find out what you all think, and we'd love to read your opinions and thoughts in the comments!

Disclaimer: Please note this is not a 'binding' poll. It will probably influence how the next book plays out, but ultimately the decisions are made by my muse and the characters themselves.

ahh i guess i didn't set it to allow multiple choice, and it wont let me change it since its already live. but your votes for 1 & 2 will be counted ^^

I voted for no more rings, that being said I think Harper and Ellie should get something to cement their sidekick status. Maybe Harper could attune to some sort of artifact that gives him limited healing powers and the ability to analyze/scan biological matter. You've hinted that Cel may be an alien, maybe they have some sort of technology that humans can't normally interface with, but maybe Ellie has some sort of unique genetic mutation that allows her to, or some sort of accident happens with her and Cel that would allow her to use it. Something that would let her provide on the field tactical or hacking support. Maybe she would be able to take over some of the support Cel usually provides, at least for Blake.

Family...and romantic partners both. I would have done all 3 if given the option.

Is Harper trans? If not, becoming a magical girl might be a bit rough on then.

Question, if Harper gets a ring to become a magical girl, does it mean there's a chance that he's ok with a different gender body? or is the magical girl title just a term?

Monica Rose

Cel does not have a ring (I think). Meaning that she is a different kind of person/entity. Nothing says that Ellie and Harper must have a ring to have powers. They would just be different from the Magical Girls in that their powers would not be combat oriented. You already pointed out that Ellie demonstrated organizational and leadership skills while Harper acted as a healer. You could have them somehow affected by the Rift so that Ellie becomes some sort of Planner/Mastermind and Harper has healing powers. Of course, I have no suggestion about the other mortals who were present.

I'm all for Harper and Ellie getting Magic. Especially after it was made clear that they have to join Blake and the rest of the MG group in their fight against eldritch monsters. But Harper should maybe stay a guy. I kinda like the bisexual poly thing that the three lovers are building there. Maybe Harper's magic form could be on the femmy side? But yeah, he should stay a guy.

Ralph

U could have the older girls retire and pass the rings over, or maybe a different kind of ring, magically making them medic and pilot for other missions

re. the question of Harper possibly becoming a [magical] girl and whether or not he might be trans (or gender fluid, gender casual, etc), we don't have any answers either way right now. but looking at a few things in book 1 that may or may not be clues... while Harper claimed at first (ch.2) that he'd be very freaked out if a ring turned him into a girl, he might have only said that to try and poke (egg) Blake about why she wasn't freaking out that much? then in a later chapter when Ellie sort of teased Harper about his name working for both boys and girls just like Blake, he just smiled at the comment. and finally, when they were all out clothes shopping, Harper's the one who seemed interested & was much more involved in helping Blake pick outfits etc, while Ellie just messed with her phone.

I think it'd be more interesting if Ellie and Harper ending up with magic but not rings, like whatever created the rings could have also made something else or they uncover a "clean" version of the ritual magic used by Blake's family

I like the idea of Ellie&Harper getting magic, possibly with rings, but not the idea of Harper becoming a magical *GIRL* because he really doesn’t strike me as being an egg. Maybe a tuxedo mask sort of magical guy, though.

Kaiyalai

The thing I think would be most interesting to see with someone getting a sixth ring would be if Blake’s mother got one. I’ve got the impression there’s a measure of ‘the ring chooses its bearer’ going on that would make accepting that challenging but inevitable for the rest of the team, and having her play something of a ‘team mom’ role, supporting and occasionally guiding - but not leading - in the field would be a nice contrast from Cel’s apparently-more-aloof position of directing the team largely from a distance.

Kaiyalai

In particular I think this would dovetail nicely with Ellie&Harper getting non-ring-based magic

Camille

Im voting for the first option but with a caveat that more rings might be a non option but instead Harper learning White Mage, and Ellie learning various techniques and becoming a Hedge Mage/Wizard (extreme range of various things at the cost of depth in a lot of those things)

Uncreative

I think I'm pretty solidly in the camp of not every major character has to have magic. Just feels kind of like a cop out to me somehow? Harper and Ellie are plenty interesting as they are and I don't think they need magic to stay that way.

Justin

I can't make up my mind on the magic rings or not, so I vote for whatever leads to the most drama, cuddle scenes, zany hijinks, and people being flummoxed and flabbergasted by what they see.

Jessica Rae

honestly this was my thought. unless... Ellie is tux'd and Harper becomes a femboy lol

Megan McCue

I find it refreshing that Harper is a guy. A cool, sensitive, caring guy. The world needs a few of those.

big thankyou to everyone for voting, and for all your thoughts & comments on this. we still haven't made any decisions yet, but wherever this story goes it'll do so with your input in mind <3 <3 <3
