=::= Lily's PoV =::=

The view from part-way up the tower was perfect. There was a metal walkway that encircled the structure just above the bulbous protrusion which housed the restaurant facilities, and it was a fantastic place to perch high above the city. The metal grating wasn't that comfortable underfoot, but it was manageable.

I took my time as I slowly walked around the structure and gazed down at the city below.

Mara found the whole experience exhilarating, she was utterly captivated and thrilled by the sensation of flying. It was yet another thing about her which reminded me of my progeny. My Mara loved to fly, so much that she eschewed travel by magic if there was any option for flight. Even when it was safer to use magic, my offspring insisted on flying.

I wasn't as infatuated with the experience, though it was nice to do it again after being denied that pleasure for the past seven months. Unfortunately this brief time in my own shape was costly. Changing Mara's body into my own fully demonic form was extremely temporary, and doing so burned through all the excess energy I absorbed when we imprisoned Verothilas.

Mara might have thought I'd stopped there to enjoy the view, the truth was I needed to land to catch my breath. And I was using this break to scan the city streets below for a suitable meal.

After a full circuit around the tower, my senses detected a suitably darkened soul.

"Mara," I said softly. "I'm sorry but before we rejoin the others, I must feed. As much as you and I are both enjoying this experience, it's very draining for me and I cannot keep it up much longer. I promise I'll wake you before it's over, so you can fly with me once more before I have to rest."

The human soul to which I was bound hadn't yet learned how to communicate in her current state, but I could feel her emotions and I knew she understood what I was saying.

In a single fluid motion, I turned and leapt off the side of the tower. My wings swept back and we angled into a head-first dive, nearly straight down. Gravity pulled us faster and faster, and when we were about halfway down I slowly extended my wings. They caught the air and pulled us out of our dive.

The momentum took us up along one of the large streets, and brought us closer to my prey. She was walking alone, making her way home from work. Dressed in light blue nurse's scrubs under a heavy winter coat, she worked in the children's ward at one of the nearby hospitals. And her soul was deliciously dark.

I beat my wings and we flew a dozen meters over the woman's head, but even that brief pass was enough for me to smell the dozens of murders that stained and flavoured her life force. I angled upwards and started to climb again, and as we moved higher into the air I directed some magic inwards.

My climb arced over into another dive, and I felt Mara fade. A moment later she was in a deep sleep, and four seconds after that I was on my prey. The woman was a half dozen meters from the entrance to a subway station, and she never saw me coming. Nor did anyone else.

My tail wrapped around her waist as I grabbed her under her arms. She was nearly knocked unconscious by the physical shock of being plucked from the ground like that. I didn't land, I didn't even bother slowing. I snatched her up and my wings beat in powerful thrusts as I hauled the woman higher and higher into the air. I banked and started back out towards the lake as I continued to climb.

Once she recovered from the shock of being grabbed she began to scream and thrash in my arms.

"If you struggle I might drop you," I stated.

My words seemed to help her focus and she let out another scream, but at least she stopped trying to free herself. Instead she clutched at my arms and clung to them with all her strength.

We were already about two hundred meters above the pavement and still climbing as I continued taking us south towards the harbour.

Her screams finally tapered off and she cried, "What are you? Where are you taking me?"

"I'm a demon," I replied. I tried to keep the weariness out of my voice, I didn't want her to know how tired I was. I wouldn't be able to prolong this, I needed to feed and I needed it soon. "My name is Lily."

She still clutched at my arms as she shrieked "A demon?! What do you want with me?"

"You know why I'm here for you Nancy," I stated. "After all the lives you've ended? People who were entrusted into your care, but instead of helping them you murdered them."

We were over the harbour now. At least three hundred meters of empty air separated the two of us from the dark frigid waters, but still I climbed. I needed to get even higher.

"No!" she half-screamed. "I freed them! I ended their pain, their suffering! I helped them! I sent them to heaven!"

I could tell she truly believed those words, that there was no point arguing with her. She didn't see herself as a murderer of innocent vulnerable children, she thought she was their saviour. Not that it would make any difference to me either way. Saviour or killer, her soul was steeped in darkness and soon I would enjoy that exquisite delicious energy.

"And that is what I'm going to do for you Nancy," I replied. "I'm going to give you the gift of peace, of freedom. I'm here to reward you for your hard work."

We'd already passed over the island, now we were over the lake itself and still I continued to climb. I needed to get a little higher before I started.

The woman screamed again, "No! I don't need that gift! I'm not ready! I'm not sick, I'm not dying! I'm not suffering!"

I didn't bother to respond. I already knew she never asked any of her victims what they wanted, and likewise I wasn't asking her.

It was another minute or two before I decided we were high enough. I stopped climbing and started circling as I repositioned her in my arms and with my tail. I brought my claws up and started shredding her clothing. The woman screamed and resumed her struggles. She thrashed and fought as I tore strips of fabric from her outfit and let them fall away into the darkness beneath us.

Thanks to her struggles there were a few times when my claws bit into her flesh rather than the clothing I was attempting to remove. Had she stayed still I wouldn't have injured her at all. By the time I had her fully stripped bare of her outfit she had a few gashes on her hips and arms, but nothing too serious. There was no chance she'd bleed to death before I fed.

"It's time Nancy," I told her.

I sent a small pulse of magic through my tail as it remained tightly wrapped around her waist. Within seconds she'd all but forgotten her fear, and the pain of her injuries was likewise ignored. All she could think of was her lust, her need.

This would be the first time I'd fed on the wing in at least two millennia. It was a rare treat for me, but the adrenaline my meal experienced would be a welcome boost. I folded my wings in as I held the woman against my body, and the two of us began to fall.

I removed my tail from her waist as my wings wrapped around the both of us, and I closed my eyes as I allowed myself to concentrate on the sensations and the experience.

Nancy's heart was pounding and she didn't know whether to scream or moan as the tip of my tail found her wet, needy lips. I thrust it deep inside her and the decision was made for her. A long loud moan could be heard from the vicinity of my chest, as she buried her face between my breasts.

My mind remained focused on two separate tasks. We were about five hundred meters from the surface of the lake when we started our fall, and I needed at least a hundred and fifty meters to safely pull out of it with my wings. Otherwise I'd have to resort to magic, and I didn't want to waste any more of that. So I kept a count of the seconds, knowing how quickly I needed to finish my meal.

The rest of my concentration was on enjoying my feast. My tail thrust in and out of her as I held her against my chest. I could feel the unique blend of terror and lust within her as the two of us continued to plummet, the cold winter air rushed past us and the black frigid waters waited below.

I flexed the spade tip of my tail within the woman, stimulating her in ways her human mind could barely comprehend.

And as the seconds ticked past, she finally let out another long scream. Not of fear or horror, but of ecstasy. And in that moment as she experienced perfect bliss, I pulled her soul from her body and consumed it.

Her scream trailed off as I pulled my tail free, then I shifted my wings back and finally released her. My fall quickly stabilized and I started to pull out of the dive, while the woman's body continued to plummet out of sight below me.

A few moments later the empty husk hit the water somewhere behind me, and I levelled off and flew a couple dozen meters above the waves. I began to make my way back towards the harbour and the city.

I passed over the island again, then let myself drift a little lower till I was just a meter or two above the dark frigid water. I turned west to cross the harbour, with the city to my right and the island to my left, then with another gentle pulse of internal magic I woke my human charge.

As promised, Mara would experience the final minute or so of flight with me. Once again I felt her excitement as she was completely enamoured with the sensations.

We passed over the fireworks barge, we were low enough this time to smell the acrid scent of the sulphur in the black powder charges. Then I angled us upwards and started beating my wings again to gain some altitude.

I turned and dove once more before I levelled out, then finally started flying back towards the hotel. It was time to return our body to Mara's shape, then I needed to rest. Otherwise I'd burn off all the energy I just received from my latest meal.

*** Fun fact: the place where Lily walked around on the CN Tower is actually a thing people can do! it's a 1.5m wide walkway thats 356m / 1168' / 116 stories above the ground. We did it a few years ago and it's pretty wild. I'm not sure if they'd actually be operating that late on new years eve, but most nights I think they close up earlier than that. https://www.cntower.ca/en-ca/plan-your-visit/attractions/edgewalk/edgewalk-overview.html ***
