Oh boy, here it is

I like how Bones decided to handle the art direction for Mogami's false world. The greater use of shading, less saturated colors, and the change in aspect ratio/borders (don't know what the effect is called) really help sell the oppressive feeling. Haven't read the manga for MP 100 (besides a certain spinoff I'll bring up later), so I wonder how it compares.

KenBoCole

Mob received quite the power up these few episodes! Learning to use and control his emotions better, some much needed character development! Also, him going through his "anime protagonist glow up" is hilarious. All he has to do is get rid of his bowl cut and style his hair, and he would be as handsome as his popular brother, Ritsu.

KenBoCole

This is my third favorite fight in the series! Its so well done, and beautifully animated. Mob's rainbow colored RGB powers are always entertaining to watch! That contrasted by the black/red accented powers of the spirit make a awesome fight! But don't worry, it gets even better!

KenBoCole

As a side note, I'm glad the rich girl seemed to have gotten some character development aswell, alongside mob! She was a bully in real life just as she was in the dream world, but hopefully this experience will help her grow. After she gets over (if ever) what a traumatizing experience she went through.

KenBoCole

Yeah! They did such a great job making it look unatrual/slightly off putting!

Mule guy

19:50 still one of the best animated explosions ever, studio bones always delivers

45:03 This song was actually included in a MP 100 drama CD, called "Telepathy Fairytale". It's a character song centered entirely around Tome Kurata (the telepathy club pres girl). It's super extra and eccentric, which tracks. Here's a link, no English cover unfortunately: https://youtu.be/sdRaglWA2Vk?si=KJGi-aJMV1Sjvjf1

James G

So unlike Frieren, Mob is not autistic, hes intentional suppressing his emotions due to his fear of becoming to emotional and accidentally hurting people with his powers. Its a self-induced mental block cause by Trauma. Everytime we are seeing him go 100%, it just means that emotion is 100% apparent or fully-realized in Mob. Season 2 is such a great season, next arc is good also, but the final season arc is PEAK

2026-09-26 16:00 While it is a segment that strays away from what has made him such a lovable character thus far, this two-episode arc with Reigen and Mob being apart is the "emotional core" of what allowed MP 100 to resonate with me, as well as being the biggest contributor to what makes Reigen my favorite character. For a long list of life circumstances I really rather not explain in detail, I've recently found myself in a similar position that Reigen was in in episode 6. The place where I grew up in Florida, the isolation caused by COVID alongside its aftermath, and a family situation that wouldn't make sense to anyone of sound mind have made it rather difficult for me to develop social skills. I've always been something of a slave to habit, but these things certainly did not help when it came to trying to try new things or make friends like Mob did. Not having much room to do anything to open myself up to new things, I just stuck to grinding away at trying to make a career for myself in IT alongside some part-time work at a restaurant. Figured that I would eventually find myself in a place with enough stability to finally consider doing things like traveling, dating, etc. if I just.... "kept going". Having moved here to Chicago for the sake of getting out of my family issues, I was put in a position that pretty much took away any routine I previously had. I had reached a sort of breaking point where I began to see just how "small" years can feel since I realized how little I had left behind after moving. Started alternating between feeling empty and getting sick from anxiety surrounding my future (having moments during the night that was pretty much what Reigen is going through here (47:38). Ya'll might remember me mentioning going through this earlier this year during AOT. Anyway, I really debated on sharing all this in the first place bc I'm afraid it'll just come off as trauma dumping or trying to get people to pity me(which isn't what this is about). Things could be way worse, even if I really haven't made it to the stability I've been trying to find. I really just wanted to bring all this up to say that I really appreciate how ONE represents these kinds of ordeals in his stories, and that characters like Mob, Reigen, and Saitama really resonate with me because of this. It makes me think that he understands this type of feeling himself all too well, and I find it at least a little reassuring that I'm not alone in that way.

2026-09-27 14:00 Oh yeah btw I just recently learned Mob has a different VA in season 3 of the dub bc of a dispute between Kyle McCarley and Crunchyroll. Just discovered discovered this vid of the man himself talking about it https://youtu.be/oHYWLTrBVlk?is=ATMrHaWK-BcrmC2b

Love the end talks!!! Btw you two, get your minds out of the gutter! 😂😂 These are the lyrics of the intro song : “Get ready, wake your psyche up, MOB! Get ready, dig your anger up, MOB! Get ready, wake your psyche up, MOB! Get ready! Coming down, could you fill your satisfaction? You're a MOB. Can't you feel your own frustration? Coming down, could you fill your satisfaction? You're a MOB. What do you want to be?”

2026-09-26 16:00 E5: I don't have a ton more to add to the comments you had about this episode. It's interesting to consider whether Mob is on the spectrum vs just heavily suppressing his emotions (for whatever reason, including apprehension from past trauma), or whether it's both or more than those theories. There's a tendency to think the primary quality of psychics is "intelligence" (they're supersmart to use mind powers!) but once again it's reinforced that Mob's primary characteristic is his... compassion. There's people who very easily can label people as "other" resulting in tribal mindsets or delineations beyond which people won't extend themselves, but Mob doesn't make that distinction -- his ego boundaries are expansive enough to relate to anyone he comes into proximity with, even people who don't mean him well, and he's able to identify with and/or find connection points and he WANTS them to become the best version of themselves, if there's any way he can enable that. It's a truly philanthropic mindset. Sadly not everyone he wants to help is willing to change or accept aid, but as we see, even the girl who bullied him endlessly in his six month fantasy world was someone he was willing to help, if she did decide she wanted that. And yes, the animation / fight sequences in this episode were peak out of everything I've seen, in terms of abstracted fights -- they are on par with the Sukuna/Jogo and Sukuna/Mahoraga fights from JJK's Shibuya arc. Just really stellar, expansive, and creative, cutting right to a gut core level rather than being "practical" fight sequences. I just loved it. not just great motion but also great use of color. I should give Dimple a shout-out for not giving up on Mob and managing to kickstart him there. Not sure how I feel about Dimple ultimately, as sometimes he's a troublemaker and is driven by his own impulses, but here he did Mob a solid.

yeah I had read about that. (sigh.)

E6: I appreciate the show has enough confidence to make Reigen somewhat unlikeable in this episode – we’re seeing him warts and all, after our initial glowy view of him and managing to be a positive influence in Mob’s life for so long (while also using him a bit to serve his own purposes). This is the shadow side of him and the negativity he can bring into a situation and even into his own life. That shot of him in his cramped little room, all alone – it totally reminded me of the first season of “Better Call Saul,” with Jimmy McGill living out of a cramped closet space in the back of a beauty parlor, and without real friends despite being the same kind of charismatic “always have a new scheme brewing” personality. We do see how much Mob has grown, by reacting in an APPROPRIATE (and firm) way to the abuse Reigen inadvertently dumped on him. As we’re all saying, it kind of backfired on Reigen as Mob started taking steps to separate and thus grow up. It’s so funny and odd to see Mob in colorful casual clothes, going to Karaoke – and having the time of life banging on that tambourine without any sense of beat. He seems so much freer, allowing himself to be BAD at something and not even caring, he’s instead having FUN. So good for you, Mob! You really are leveling up your maturity. Kind of curious where the Reigen storyline is going and whether he’ll come up with any epiphanies for himself. He might just need to hit rock bottom to get his head together, but I’m not sure he did before this latest bounce upwards. He might need to crash a little harder to confront his own loneliness and lack of control over life. He’s got many strong talents but they’re not really giving him the fulfillment he wants… and maybe he’s not even sure what he wants, deep down, yet.

Jennywocky

Yeah, I remember you mentioning this kind of thing during our AoT watch. I don't view it as a trauma dump or pity thing, I just see it as this being a shared space where we are thinking and feeling things as we engage the show together, and in the process we've developed some familiarity with each other. We only experience this small facet of daily life with each other, but I would say I see some of the recognizable names as some level of friend. (You know, kinda like how Mob wants to see good things for the people he meets, even if he doesn't know them super-well.) I've mentioned myself a few times about my job and some of my unhappiness in the last 2 years or so. (My workplace changed drastically with the last political election.) I believe in the work I do, but I'm frustrated and mad about the people making decisions who don't seem to share the same sense of public duty and common purpose, and the workplace has soured for many people with that change. So it has kind of leaked out here on occasion, lol... But I want you to know I'm happy to hear about how you're feeling in turn, it's not a burden to hear, it's emotions and experiences to human stories we're sharing an interest in. But, also, when I start to recognize names and the insightful comments attached to them, I do get a feeling for the person behind them and do care how they're doing. So.... How I feel when I read your post might be similar. My kids are grown and living some hours away, I live in a state I didn't grow up in, and I had expected to find a lot more friends here and/or develop closer friendships than I did. I've found it's harder to build friendships once out of school and especially when new stages of life are entered where many of those people are focused on career, or raising their kids, or already have a core friend group, etc. Plus I grew up in a very rural area, was quiet, my parents had issues which led to each one of us living in isolation, and I just never got very good at the overt social skills that would more easily succeed in this situation I'm in. But hey, this is a social situation too (just online), so it kinda counts? And what you're doing counts too? I've always noticed how much you invest in posting a lot of knowledge about the shows you watch for others to read (to help them understand the show better), and I appreciate that... it's a way that you show that you care. I feel like we come into life expecting it to turn out a certain way, and it never seems to, and sometimes it makes us feel like we made a mistake or something is wrong with us. But I don't think that's true, I just think it's the way life is -- we never know the future, and we can't control everything. I think the best thing we can do is just accept each day for what it is, keep looking for what helps us feel happy and alive, and pursue the opportunities that are available... and meanwhile not feel bad about not being able to quickly find what we had envisioned. You are definitely not alone.

JT

Thank you, Jenny. I'm thankful that there's at least someone out there who understands (though I really wouldn't wish what I'm going through upon anyone else). Been feeling lost at sea this year, and struggle to even so much as sleep between one day to the next, but I guess the best thing to do really is just take life one step at a time. Thanks

definitelynotdefinitive

So grateful for this community where people can share and open up about their experiences and be supported by each other. Thank you both! 🙏
