I know we're watching the dub, but I really wanted to give quick special mention to Denji's Japanese VA, Kikunosuke Toya. Denji was actually his first ever role that wasn't an extra or side character, and I'd say the guy absolutely crushed it. Power played Denji like a fiddle, but can you blame her? She just wanted her cat back lol. But yeah, I like how Denji didn't really blame her, he would have done the same for Pochita, and he knows it, so he could understand where she was coming from.

To this day the leech devil remains one of the grossest ans weirdest designs I've seen in anime. I think Denji did the bat devil a favor by killing him.

Yeah, Denji's fight with the Leech Devil reminds us that he fought devils without powers and missing organs for years before becoming chainsaw man. He already knows how to fight! Add his super strength and durability he now, has even without his chainsaw form, he can still hold his own!

Very true! I also really like how simple-minded Denji is too. This makes his character more likable/lovable that he is unconventional to other main characters I have seen in anime.

I agree! Not only that, but I feel like Denji, due to his horrible upbringing, is much more pragmatic than he is simple. He shows some very intelligent thought process and self analysis of his own emotions and the emotions of others. He just dosemt have enough life experience outside struggling to survive and knowledge to use his intelligence, so he is always getting into trouble, but I live how he seems to actually grow and develop as the series progress, instead of staying stagnant, or having a sudden drastic change, like many other anime characters!

Yeah, it's really interesting how he can start as a character really just concerned with the basic necessities of life (hunger, thirst, sex) and move forward from there to bigger things...

2026-10-04 21:00 27:19 I guess here would be a good time to note that the CSM anime does really compact a lot of chapters together, with each episode usually covering about 4 per episode (unlike something like MHA which usually ranges from 2-3 chapters). Your basically getting a month's worth of start and stops in the manga each episode, so Denji's obsession with trying to touch Power's chest wouldn't have come off nearly as repetitive initially. Not saying this to say you're wrong for feeling it was getting old, but I do feel it's important context to have when looking at the structure of each episode.

Unlike Dragon Ball’s Master Roshi and My Hero Academia’s Mineta, Denji is a much more nuanced character when it comes to being a pervert. Yeah, Denji can definitely be horny and perverted at times, but he’s not completely overblown about it. He still has certain lines and boundaries that he doesn’t cross with women. On top of that, he can actually be respectful and considerate toward them when it matters. That’s one of the reasons I find Denji’s character more interesting compared to other anime characters like Master Roshi or Mineta whose entire personality revolves around being a pervert lol 😂.

At least Master Roshi had other things going for his character with his relationship with his students and Tien, and how his presence affected their journeys as characters. Maybe not so much past OGDB, but it was still there. Mineta... I got nothing lol

Chainsaw man season 1 aired at October 2022 and we had a movie last year at on October 2025 and we won’t have season 2 for at least another year or 2! Man, wish it came faster but the animation is top notch.

I can’t quite recall but I think Denji does move on a bit after this from ta-ta’s because he’s settled on a grander goal now that this item was crossed off. The tone is also a little different with him saying these things because he’s generally saying them not to a living human woman but to a fiend – which is a devil who has moved into a dead human’s body in order to survive. (Basically he’s saying them to a devil, so it’s rather like as if Power stole a fancy sports car, Denji is ogling it, and Power promises to let him sit in the driver’s seat and hold the steering wheel if he does her a favor… so to speak.) That pose of Power sitting on the toilet in her pink shirt offering herself to Denji? They actually made a figure of it you can buy…. Her shock and surprise at bonding with Meowie (but also finally just going with it, the degree of sacrificing anything to be reunited and even cradling the cat in the Bat Devil's stomach even if it results in her death) gives her a little depth – and maybe suggests there is potential for her to feel other things besides just a maniacal thirst for violence. (She’s like the pure Chaotic Neutral character, chaos incarnate.) We also got our first declaration of how the hunters will make pacts with devils to further their own goals of destroying devils – and how the pact always costs them something, the exchange is always reciprocal. (Here it’s Aki’s pact with the Fox Devil, using it here to eat the Leech Devil by sacrificing some skin.) So …remember that bit. I feel bad for Aki too, that poor guy with his structured morning and clean, neat home... at least it WAS until two chaos freaks moved in. It's hilarious and painful all at once to watch. I think Power's absolutely hilarious much of the time. Ah, and Makima. Such a fascinating character. :D

CSM Season 2 is currently listed on the 2027 release slate (probably Fall), so... another year. I'm happy to wait a little longer if it improves the show. This season and the film are pretty spectacular.

I heard the English Va won the anime voice actor award in 2024 it’s pretty cool that both Japanese and English voice actors got outstanding performances and well deserved praise for them.

Denji has a ridiculous goal yes, but the dedication I’m seeing from him to work hard for it’s is the part that I really like about him right now. The goal is dumb for everyone else but it’s big for him so he’s willing to put his soul into it I find that respectable🔥

Kinda like JJK, most of the devils seem to be out of most things people fear. Aldo this does mean we get unusual devils. Leeches, while understandable, isn’t something most people think off when thinking about fears. It makes you think though, popular fears are probably the strongest. Which fears/devils do you think is the cream of the crop?

Speaking of JJK, a good example is Jogo. He was the incarnation of people’s fear of fire. Fire is fairly popular but not the most feared thing. Even then, you saw how powerful he was. If Chainsaw Man is anything like it, then oh boy do we have powerful enemies to see
