I fucking forgot ep 9 started with Tsubomi moving, just in time for me to be moving right after ya'lls reaction to the finale gets posted. The timing with some of these on my end is unreal sometimes lol

JT

Hajime Isayama and ONE being buddies in their mastery at knowing how to french kiss the brick before hurling it at the audience

JT

25:55 Yeah nah I'm with Bethany on this, the way this year has been treating me has basically put me in the state that you're describing pretty much every day now

JT

BTW on top of all the shit that's been going on for me IRL, it's been made even heavier by this year being the marathon of "JT finding out the always positive and heroic main protags from his childhood shows had at least one moment where they got lost to the darkness and ended up 'monsterizing' out". I only watched MP 100 a few months ago, so Mob ain't on that list, but even aside from him, I've watched this shit happen four times this year. Four goddamn times lol. Ya'll caught the first with Eren "Mr. Rumbling himself" Jaeger.

JT

Well then, guess it's finale time. Probably gonna put some notes with my closing thoughts bc I'm bout to be hauling ass on Thursday lol

GL on your impending move, hope to see you back soon!!

E9: Man, isn’t Mob ever gonna catch a break? Everyone adores him, he works through his anxiety over approaching Tsubomi, and he even approaches it appropriately with the special meeting place and flowers (upgraded by Minegishi!)… and then THAT happens. I had the same thought as Ken did -- it would have been so much easier to move the cat than the car -- but I guess to Mob they were the same and he was locked into “stop the danger” mode vs thinking outside the box. (Also, his mind is preoccupied.) Which is why he doesn’t approach it that way with the other boy either and just… does what he can do as any person without powers might do to save him. (Yes, it’s a Deku moment.) Until that radical plot twist, it was heartwarming to see Mob navigate the normal circumstances of a boy his age in a situation anyone might find themselves. (I particularly loved how he wandered the house sometimes even in the dark as he talks on the phone, because he's focused on the conversation but has some nervous energy that he needs to burn. I could relate to that!) There’s even exploration of Tsubomi’s potential perspective, she’s trapped in the unenviable position of having to reject so many wannabe suitors she never wanted and do it in a way that lets them down respectfully (not necessarily for them, but to protect herself from outbursts!). Still, we’re harkened back to the memory of both them as children, where Tsubomi was indifferent to Mob’s powers, and we wonder if the two of them have a chance of being together just as regular people. Mob deeply respects those who are honest (as Dimple was honest about his shirt), and it’s no wonder he’s beholden to her because of her treating him like just a regular boy. Maybe he was the same for her? Well, I never want to be having a great day walking down the street with Bethany – just in case that bus jumps the curb and tries to take me out! LOL. But I get it. I constantly have to reset expectations because of that same feeling. Agreed on the speculation about Mob maybe losing his powers… I know Mob will be okay no matter what. He’s more than his powers.

Do I have to say again how much I love the S3 opening sequence? I dunno, but the various shots of "Dark Mob" plus shots of Reigen and Mob are really evocative, and I love how Mob scales up in age in the last seconds as Reigen looks out for him.

E10: Oh geez, Teru’s hair is gone again! But this was animated so well. Shadow Mob is terrifying, and I could feel each one of the blows against Teru. Just seeing his clothes destroyed over time (that sneaker toe flapping in the psychic wind was such a wild touch) to gauge the power of this fight. It’s surreal to realize how many of these people trying to stop Mob now (or recognizing Mob’s involvement in the destruction) were positively impacted by his presence earlier in the series. They don’t want to hurt him, yet they still want to stop his rampage. And even poor Mob being aware but unsure of how to stop himself. Poor Mob. Even with his beautiful personality, he is still a danger if he ever loses control over himself. We know Mob has always feared losing control over his emotions, it was the original issue back in Season 1. And I remember the few times I’ve been hit hard in the head (or banged my head hard on something unexpectedly) and how I would feel an immediate surge of rage over it. It’s understandable, but most of us don’t have the ability to waste a city when we lose control. Back to that car accident – I wonder how much Mob instinctively cushioned that blow. Yes, he was bleeding from the head, but the entire front of that car was also smashed in, which should mean Mob had taken huge internal injuries and broken bones from the impact if he were normal. But he seems to have held himself together somehow. So I guess it remains to be seen what state he’s in after his power is finally under control. At least we know Tsubomi showed up to meet Mob. It’s just sad his big moment has been perhaps permanently derailed. Wow, they are bringing in the big guns with Suzuki. “Hey, you forgot your parachute!” is such a Captain America / Winter Soldier moment!
