Derp Cherp

The episode where people are like, "Maybe Bakugo wasn't such bad guy after all, maybe he's just misunderstood?"

Derp Cherp

Proceeds to get blown up by the same angsty teenager screaming "DIE!"

Quito

Damn, no matter how many times I watch this episode. Clifford Chapin does an amazing job with Bakugo's voice. The emotion and grit, man went all out on this one. Such a great VA and scene to see Bakugo in.

JT

Quick shout out Clifford Chapin's performance as Bakugo for this moment. I don't prefer MHA strongly either dubbed or subbed (there ain't single person on this planet who finds the sub vs dub debate more annoying than I do). Just saying it bc this is my first time hearing these in English.

victoria t

CC as Bakugo is absolutely one of my favorite dub performances of all time.

JT

Yeah nah, you don't even gotta point to that as proof. He literally told Izuku to swan dive off the roof in the first episode. I like Bakugo as much as the next guy despite his issues, but that mf had a serious problem

victoria t

And so Vegeta and Goku became official training partners and rivals 🤣🤣 I think these 2 remind me so much of Goku & Vegeta because you have 1. The one with golden retriever energy and 2. Leave me tf alone cat energy

victoria t

His dub is fantastic. Throughout the entire series, his voice acting is incredible.

JT

Oh I believe it. Looking forward to the rest of his performance in the series, since we're getting to the part where I've only read the manga

Deku vs Bakugo is a favorite of mine and I really wish more people praised it because not only does it have beautiful choreography and stunning animation its truly the first time we get to see Bakugo’s real feelings as nobody ever realized how truly guilty he felt after the Kamino incident for being indirectly responsible for his idol not being able to fight anymore. The voice acting is fantastic as well both in Dub and Sub. This is also where we finally get to see Izuku really show how far he’s come as well in terms of standing up for himself and showing how much he’s learned over the past 3 seasons 🙏.

victoria t

He has more incredible moments ahead, don’t worry

I absolutely loved seeing Deku and Bakugo finally start to understand each other after they sparred in that episode when I watched it the first time. It reminds me so much of Goku and Vegeta’s relationship, where they gradually learn to respect and understand one another, slowly building a genuine friendship despite being destined to remain fierce rivals. That’s what makes their relationships so compelling: they may never stop competing against each other, but over time, they develop a bond that goes far beyond rivalry. 🔥

I highly agree, I often switch from Sub and Dub myself depending on what I feel like watching an anime in (Plus, depending how good/bad the Dub is on said anime but the debate people have is exhasting) But for this anime, I have heard people praise it for being one of the better Dubs in anime. So, props to the VAs, they did an amazing job.

MadeByMali

One of my favorite episodes in the entire series. I knew Bakugo would have some form of growth but did not know how it would happen and it’s such perfect writing. Also we’re headed into my favorite arc in the series. I’m excited!

JT

That, and the way their journeys when it comes to power is pretty similar too. Goku had to work and learn to become a more refined martial artist since he was just a kid raised in the middle of nowhere and was born with a weak power level (by Saiyan standards). Vegeta was set to be different from his people since birth both in terms of power and status as the prince. It wasn't until, like Bakugo has with Izuku, realized what serious dedication to improvement can really be worth.

This is one of my favorite episodes and fights in the whole series. The fact that Bakugo has been holding the emotions back that he blames himself for all might really cut deep the first time I seen this. And I just love the Deku decides to fight him not because he wants too but because he knows he needs it it’s absolute cinema. Bakugo shows Deku that if he’s going to be the next all might he can’t be losing but he also won’t let Deku surpass him this is when the true rivalry blossoms. I also love at the end where Bakugo gave him tips about his power atp he really does want Deku to keep improving he acts like he didn’t like him but now in actuality he has high hopes for a him MAN I LOVE BAKUGO.

She's not a major character so this ain't this biggest deal, but I suppose I should give ya some context on Pony Tsunotori. As Kaminari said, she's an exchage student, one who's of American descent and doesn't have the strongest grasp on English (which Monoma likes to exploit by teaching her hurtful phrases). As such, a running joke with her is that she speaks this sort of Japanese-English hybrid speak, and will just switch to English outright sometimes. It's something the localization tried their best to convey by giving this sort of contry-esque dialect, but I don't think it comes off quite as strong (not that I'm blaming them, it's a hard joke to translate). Here's the scene of her original dialogue in the sub to help show what I mean: https://youtu.be/MKicphRXszg?si=h1sn5bhMSLqWO2x5

I think Bakugo’s struggle is an angle that I always thought was interesting. What happens to the kid who Superman died to save? Obviously it’s not their “fault”, but it’s hard for a kid t know that if they weren’t in danger their hero would be around still. Tough situation to work through

K Kasher

Deku sprach talking about how much he imitates Bakugo because that’s what he sees as victory is good. ESP since even since the first season when he says when he screams like him at the villains saying “NOW DIEE” you can see how much he tries to be like him in do or die situations, and then on the other hand Bakugos head is so twisted he doesn’t realize him copying him was because he inspired him not mockery so Deku has to show him his emotions with his fists just like how Bakugo is doing it’s like two brothers fighting. The writing of this episode is so fantastic to me I could talk about it for dayssss.

Bakugo saying he’s not good or strong enough really lines up with his character and explains why he is always trying to outdo everyone in his class because I like I said before besides Deku Bakugo is probably the hardest worker in his class that’s why he understands quirks so well and can use his quirk with so much efficiency but all that hard work was never overcoming the insecurity’s he felt about himself because it’s takes more than just working ur butt off to feel accomplished. You gotta love yourself and be happy about the fact that you still have so much room to grow even if you arnt there yet that’s something that Deku has always understood that Bakugo didn’t.

This isn't My Hero Academia related but I want to ask you if you both would do a reaction to the Dragonball Sparking Zero (Super Limit Breaking Neo) New All Transformations and Ultimate Attacks! Sparking Zero received a big DLC with lots of new characters! I'm not promoting anyone but a really good video to watch would be from ThemGamez that was posted 2 months ago.😁

JT

Oh and btw her English VA is the same as Power’s from CSM, Sarah Wiedenheft.

I always thought the fallout guy looked like tintin

Ceeneon

Came to say it's time for Anime Tintin! :P

E23: Robot: “Eraser Head, your students are loitering … “ LOL, no they’re not, they’re beating the crap out of each other! Well, that kinda had to happen and I think they’re both the better for it. Bakugo was carrying some heavy emotional baggage that he needed to express, and he just doesn’t have the skills to do it except through this – and I think it was great All-Might brought him into their confidence at the end so now it’s a secret the three of them share. And we have a reset on their competition in that it’s about becoming better themselves versus just trashing the other person. As the carrier of All-Might’s power, Deku needs to be seen by Bakugo as worthy even if that means Deku is able to beat him. In the end, this will make them both better; Bakugo is working through his emotions and Deku is learning to be more assertive and also, even when he empathizes with someone, understanding that doesn’t necessarily mean returning a hug but giving that person what they actually need. (Boy, Deku had a great “rage face” that one time, lol! Let’s see more of it!) I’m glad Deku switching up with punches ended up being effective. If it pissed off Bakugo, it was a good move. It’s good to see them working together to better themselves, even as painful as this process has been. I agree with Bethany’s comment about sometimes you need to just let that space or silence exist around someone who is hurt or angry. You have to let it sit, you can’t always fix it by filling the space and sometimes you can even ruin what needs to happen if you don’t let the silence sit. (Although you can sit there in the silence with them so they know they are not alone.) Yeah, Deku’s a thinker like Ken says, and he’s still relatively new to things rather than feeling how his body works and intuitively feeling out what to do. He will get there. It will take time. Bakugo is definitely an instinctive fighter, he lives in the moment and responds to minute changes without having to mentally process it. E24: Welp, Tip #1 – don’t apply for the League of Evil Villains in a back alley (in case the initiation doesn’t work out). I didn’t have getting lessons of fur/hair grooming on my ceremony Bingo card… Yeah, it’s not even that all those doubles killing each other had Twice’s face – they were literally Twice. He was watching people were essentially himself killing himself, realizing he had the capacity to do such awful things to not just others but himself as well. How does that factor into someone’s sense of self-worth and self-understanding?

I agree about the sub/dub arguments being annoying -- I don't think the sub is always better or that the dub is better if it's in your language. I will usually watch the dub if the VA work is decent, but I actually have switched to sub on a few shows because either the dub work felt under par or made the show feel "sillier" if that makes sense, with the direction taken. There are some shows (like AoT) that I consider both the sub and dub to be excellent. I actually slightly prefer the sub for Takopi's Original Sin because it has just a SLIGHT edge over the dub, but both are so great you can't lose with either. Same with Made in Abyss. I haven't seen the MHA sub of Deku vs Bakugo, but from the conversation I'm guessing it's on par with the dub vs sub of Grisha in AoT "Memories of the Past" -- both are seen as excellent and like they capture the raw emotion. Anyway, I get really pissed when the sub purists just bitch about every little thing with a dub, when it's really just a preference of theirs and not objective reality like they claim. There's always going to be differences, even in translation when they're trying to sync words to mouth movements, and that's just reality.

was really waiting for this one, first time they went super hard on the Deku animation

Deiondre0

Im so glad Bakugo was my first introduction to CC. Ive heard him in a lot of other roles now but this is still my favorite by far

Luhbabytay

The real MC has finally been introduce and my second favorite villain also been introduce!!!!!!!!!!!!
