Im pretty excited to watch Solo Leveling again with yall! In case you didnt know, Solo leveling is actually a Korean title! Its based off a web novel of the same name, that was made popular through it's webtoon (Or Manwha, the Korean equivalent of a Japanese Manga) In Japan, Shonen Jump is the biggest manga distributor, that owns most of the manga's the anime yall have watched is based off of. In South Korea, an company called LINE Webtoons is that equivalent. Crunchyroll signed a deal to animate popular korean webtoons, and Solo Leveling is the most popular one to come from that deal *so far*! If you enjoy solo leveling, I recommend adding the other Korean titles such as 1)[Tower of God] (basically the Korean version of One Piece), 2) [God of Highschool] (A short action packed 12 episode anime that contains some of the best visuals in the genre), These two are very good! Korean Manwha's have a breath of fresh air compared to Japanese anime, which can start to feel a bit "samey" after so long watching them. They have a distinct diffrence to them. Crunchrolp also signed another Contract with LINE again last month, planning on animating 15 more korean Webtoons down the road. The most popular of these will be [The Boxer], which I believe will take the anime world by storm like Solo Leveling did, but even more so due to the amazing storyline and beautiful graphics. One of the few webtoons to make me cry lol. I hope yall will have time in your schedule to watch it when it comes out!

Here’s a mini-primer of important characters shown in E1: - Jin-woo Sung: The protagonist, the “weakest hunter,” barely E rank - Yoon-ho Baek: The red-haired S rank hunter in the opening island sequence, Guild Master of the White Tiger guild. - Byung-Gyu Min: The S rank healer in the opening island sequence. - Jong-in Choi: The bespectacled and caped S rank mage (specialty: Fire), Guild Master of the Hunters guild. - Hae-in Cha: The nimble and blonde S rank hunter in the pink ballcap, Vice Guild Master of the Hunters guild, also known as “The Dancer.” - Joo-hee Lee: The anxiety-ridden B rank healer who is friends with Jin-woo and drawn into the Double Dungeon debacle, needing to be carried out by Chi-yul Song. - Chi-yul Song: The middle-aged hunter leader who puts participation in the Double Dungeon up to a vote and loses an arm in the temple. - Gun-hee Go: The huge distinguished white-haired man discussing resources, chairman of the Korean Hunters Association. - Jin-ah Sung: Jin-woo's sister who is still in school and wants to be a doctor. - Song-Yi Han: Jin-ah's best friend at school, we saw them talk a few times in E1. But we also saw her at the testing center potentially getting measured as a Hunter wannabe. (The young man we saw actively get measured by touching the large ball will come back soon too.) - Sang-Shik Kim: The hunter who abandons Jin-woo and the others in the temple because he "has a family" and wants to survive.

This is also yall's first exposure to the LitRPG genre I believe! LitRPG is basically just a world setting where game elements transfer to everyday life. People getting stat windows and levels to improve themselves. Its a genre that's exploded in Asian Countries for years, and has just recently exploded in the west, Herald by the increasingly popular [Dungeon Crawler Carl] book/audiobook series (which by the way is getting a live action adaptation soon, hope yall can watch it!) I love this genre personally, and am excited to see it grow! While there have been popular shows like [Overlord] showcasing the genre in Japan before, I think Solo Leveling is the first *Big* exposure to the genre that most westners have gotten!

Ayye exciting. So this anime is not one where you have to be concerned about a complex story or honestly even great writing lol. But it’s sooo entertaining to watch and there’s lots of aura and hype moments 😂 Enjoy!

Logan Prime

This will be fun. Great time to watch with the movie coming out next year

YES I’M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU GUYS FINALLY REACT TO SOLO LEVELING! You 2 are in for an incredibly epic ride! Also fun fact the person who voices Sung Jin Woo his name is Aleks Le is the same voice actor who plays as Zenitsu in Demon Slayer. Another fun fact they’re is currently a Live Action Solo Leveling Netflix series coming soon, and it’s gonna be in Korean just like the books so that is something worth watching in the future. So yeah have fun with Solo Leveling you guys!

KenBoCole

You are a trooper for posting those names lol. It took me years learn and memorize Japanese names. Having to learn new Korean Names is a job in and of it self lol.

Oh my. Here we go! This is actually not based on a Japanese manga, but on a South Korean manhwa! So instead of taking place in Japan, in takes place in South Korea FYI And in the event you didn’t notice, a few familiar VAs make an appearance: 1. our protagonist, Sung Jinwoo, is voiced by Aleks Le (Zenitsu’s VA); 2. the guy with the red hair in the opening scenes, Yoonho Baek, is voiced by 🐐 Christopher Sabat (Vegeta, All Might, etc); and 3. one of his buddies, Jong In Choi, is voiced by Ian Sinclair (Whis), to name a few! There will be many more, see if you recognize anyone!

The English voice actor for our main character, Sung Jin-woo, is the same voice actor for Zenitsu from Demon Slayer

Jennywocky

Lol, well JT isn't here so someone's gotta do it 😀 Yeah I find Japanese names easier to remember, I struggled with this show for awhile -- so figured others did too and assembled this list.

Jennywocky

Yeah i laughed when Ken said he liked the red haired warrior guy because he's basically gushing over All-Might :)

The orchestra slowly forming as each individual instrument statue started performing gave me chills! With the singer coming in last completing it made that scene so iconic!

Also ending on episode 2 is gonna leave you super confused until you watch ep 3 😭 but this’ll be fun. And man that voice acting at the end of ep 2 is PEAK

E1: I honestly was kinda indifferent on this show until the Double Dungeon started – then things suddenly got real. I've gamed enough to see TPKs before (total party kills), and that statue's grin was like that of the Grinning Titan from AoT, and that girl who'd shriek with every person getting nuked... well, it got both hilarious and wild all at once watching this. Before this point, Jin-woo often seems dismissed as “the weakest hunter”. He just accepts it (“I’m used to it…”) His niceness feels often like weakness or disengagement because he just accepts everyone else’s opinion of him. No matter how correct those opinions might be, Jin-woo would have seemed healthier to react to the constant dismissals with anger or at least a challenge… but he often just seems to roll over. [I get it, my younger self can identify with Jin-woo.... feeling a lack of power over my life, being generally kind but then always just relying on "being nice" because I didn't know how else to relate or even what i wanted from the world -- and so being nice usually just resulted in being taken advantage of by others with clearer goals or more confidence. ] While most powerful Hunters seem to enjoy their positions (like Yoon-ho Baek or Jong-in Choi), others do not. For example, when Hae-in Cha (the blonde woman) draws an enthusiastic crowd for stopping a mugger, she immediately extracts herself. As we saw, power level is random and doesn't necessarily reflect ambition -- Joo-hee was gifted with the ability of a Rank-B healer, yet often just runs D or E-rank raids because she's too anxious of a person to handle things on her level. Like in CSM, we see people risking their lives to simply provide for their families or pay the bills. While those who rank as C or higher upon “Awakening” are better positioned to earn dungeon rewards and guild memberships, those who did not luck out with special ability instead have to work and risk hard for less. Jin-woo, at the bottom, puts in relentless risk for almost no reward whatsoever, yet in his father’s absence he feels compelled to raid because no one else can pay his mother’s medical bills or sister’s tuition. Despite his lack of ability, however, his attentiveness and intelligence is high enough to prevent multiple deaths when the Double Dungeon (also called the “Cartenon Temple”) takes its toll. E2: However weak Jin-woo might seem, his character is such that he doesn’t abandon Joo-hee (who is emotionally struggling over the encounter’s brutality), even when it results in him losing a leg getting her to safety. I really appreciate the ruthlessness of the Double Dungeon, it sets a baseline for the rest of the series. A good leader at heart, Chi-yul is willing to offer himself as a sacrifice (accepting the responsibility for the group’s failure), but it ends up not working that way. So one important thing we learn when Jin-woo’s composure breaks after being abandoned is that some of his niceness is just a costume he wears due to his powerlessness. In actuality, being abandoned secretly infuriates him because everyone was in the same dire circumstance, so why did some survivors think their needs were more important than his? It’s really a moment of clarity for Jin-woo: He realizes HE wants to live, HE has so many regrets, and he’s not actually an expendable doormat regardless of his rank – he’s a human being and deserves the same consideration as others. The other notable response is that Jin-woo refuses to give up. Even when it’s clear he has no chance whatsoever (and is brutally maimed), he still tries to fight the giant statues. Maybe being the “weakest hunter” has forced him to endure so much pain that his determination to survive has risen to an ungodly level. Some of his companions laid down and died early, others abandoned him in flight when the opportunity arose, but Jin-woo will do neither: He will fight to the bitter end. Okay, so I see why the E2 ending was confusing to you since you thought the genre was one thing, so you're not sure how to interpret it ... yet it's actually something else. You will understand better in E3, just keep watching. (I've read the entire manwha, so I know what's going on in this episode including the temple's purpose, but it won't be clear for quite some time in the anime...)

This was one of my seasonal anime favorite and even though I shy away from dubs they did a good job as far as I can tell ( just don’t ask who voiced who).. Edit: love a cliff hanger that makes you go wha…..

I voted Vinland saga as I haven’t seen it yet but if it doesn’t win the current poll I’m sure it will win the next one since it’s been pretty close in other rounds.
