Denji riding a shark while windsurfing a tornado wasnt something I knew I needed until watching this movie lol.

Jennywocky

That was so great lol

I'm gonna watch this at home later on my big screen with ya, the little phone doesn't cut it 😀

I can't tell you how phenomenal this adaptation was! The people who already read through the Manga were freaking out over just Reze's hair back in the end of Ep. 12, and the long wait between Season 1 and this was more than worth the wait! The insane success of this and Demon Slayer Infinity Castle 1 genuinely changed how anime movies are produced and released permanently! [Also, this is a nice reprieve from the absolutely stressful hell that is today! 💀🗳]

Makima's movie date whith Denji seemed to really humanized her, and made her character seem to much more interesting. Then Makima killing Reze was such a gut punch lol. However, to be honest Reze did deserve it. Reze killed alot of innocent people, what Makima did could be described as justice. Something this movie alludes too is just how much Makima is watching and Manipulating Denji. The only way Makima could know about Denji's plan to elope with Reze was if she listened in on their conversations. We saw how she can watch through the eyes of crows, and I would bet she keeps Dwnji under constant surveillance. That means she allowed this entire thing to go down, and only intervened when Denji was about to be taken away from her.

1:15:23 it's funny you say this in the manga this chaper was called Sharknado

Fortnire Barrison

The butterfly shown in the visual while they are in the pool is a monarch butterfly which is toxic. Which is a great metaphor for denji being caught in rezes web only to be poisoned by love causing her to fail her mission hence why it stopped eating in the final shot. Its such a genius shot with the different interpretations it has.

shimsho

There actually is a Bakugo vs Reze death battle lol

Yoshitsune

Mappa the same studio that did the same animation for JJK, you know they are gonna make Chainsaw Man loooook gooooood.

I really like Makima’s date with Denji as a sort of microcosm of some of the shows bigger points, (and highlights Fujimoto’s cinephile habits) They spent an entire day watching movies that they didn’t really like, only for the last movie to be one that even Makima gets emotional at. The bad experiences they had through the day were not only worth it, but maybe even emphasized the experience of watching a movie they really like. Life isn’t going to be a series of movies you love. You’re gonna have a lot of moments, days, experiences that are lackluster/bad/disappointing. But that highlights the better days even more! And to this point, this is something that I think reactors like yourself can sort of experience. We as viewers and fans recommend only the best of the medium. Popular, thrilling, touching, exciting series. I think (to no blame of your own), this can kinda skew your perception not only anime in general, but of the shows you watch. You guys aren’t spending time watching shows like “the 100 girlfriends who really really really love me” or “that time I got reincarnated as a farmer in a fantasy world and rose to prominence” not that I would want you to, but sometimes some “slop” shows can help you appreciate how good shows like attack on titan, chainsaw man, demon slayer, mob psycho are.

Chris Collier

Which would you rather be, the country mouse or the city mouse? (Haven’t fully watched it yet so someone tell me if they already answered at the end)

My favourite scene in this movie is definitely the pool scene. During my first watch I simply viewed it as the part where Reze was getting into Denji’s head and heart. But after a couple of watches, I realised this was the scene where Reze was also falling for Denji. She put herself into water, where she cannot use her explosions, and went out of her way to teach Denji something new. The spider, web and the moth also looked like it the symbolised Denji being caught by Reze, while I could be way off with this, I personally see the web to be Denji, Reze as the moth and makima as the spider. While I don’t fully understand Makima, I feel like there were some hints throughout this movie where she was watching Denji and Reze. The biggest giveaway was at the end, she tells Reze that she agrees the country mouse life was better, even though she was not part of that conversation in the classroom scene.

Luhbabytay

another reason I don’t trust makima cause she told aki “just pretend to get along with them” is she pretending to like Denji? Just to play with his feelings and use him Denji was fully pack at the end to runaway. I wonder how fast it wouldve taken for makima to kill Denji with her power if he did runaway, since she know his name?

Luhbabytay

What crazy also, we see how obsess Denji is over makima but at the end Denji was fully ready to chose Reze over Makima in that moment and be a “criminal” on the run

Luhbabytay

Ppl forget someone time just like with aki dead partner. Makima is a fully grown woman and Denji is 16. She would be in jail if any even happen with them. Denji dream to have sex with her would have to wait until he is an adult. He lucky he even got a boob grab from her lol.

2026-11-04 14:00 its like they want us to feel pain. Lin, the Chainsaw Man editor, said in an interview, "Changing perspective, Denji was able to fall asleep while embracing the girl he loved— its a happy scene. Lending a girl shirt is every guy's dream" I haven’t read the manga, but at the very beginning of the anime Denji lists some of his dreams to Pochita, and one of them is falling asleep next to a girl. That makes the quote even sadder, because he’s talking about when they fell to the bottom of the ocean together passed out. I don’t think that’s what Denji had in mind when he was dreaming about falling asleep hugging a girl. 😢

The after-credit scene was bittersweet. Denji never knew that Reze came back for him, but Power is there for him (she’s a constant in his life), and he’s able to joke about eating the flowers, so… he’ll be okay? The tick-tock? I dunno, but I worry for Aki, whose time is running out. So I just love this movie to death, it was one of my favorite films of 2025 – and I wasn’t even expecting much from it at start. It starts by being this lovely art-housey drama about falling in love, and then the second half is just this insane action picture that goes non-stop, pedal to metal… until it suddenly resolves in such a heartbreaking way. The first segment feels almost like a love letter to movies and also exploring why we do and don’t feel things when we watch films. But also we are seeing Makima and Denji are having some similar responses to what they’re watching, unlike the other regular people who are watching the films with them. You’ll have to decide what that means. Ken cracked me up early in the movie when he said Reze was either “going to get killed or end up being an evil person.” I simply wrote “Yes” to that choice on my notepad! Reze is one of my favorite characters in all anime. I should hate her for some of the things she did, yet she’s adorable AF and has complex depths. She definitely knows how to manipulate people, yet I feel like some of that persona is also who she is. We find out at the end she was a Russian guinea pig trained to be a weapon, and so throughout the film we see both the innocent parts of her as well as the tainted dangerous parts. Those appealing parts of her feel so real because they are actually the person she might have been if she had remained untainted; it’s so sad to hear her sing that Russian lullaby as she’s forced to strangle out the man who just threatened to mutilate her. He never actually had a chance, but it’s sad she was crafted into such a deadly weapon. And Ken is right by noting Denji is simply a weapon for Makima, who isn’t entirely on the level either…. so what does that make Makima overall? Denji asks her, “Why didn’t you kill me when we first met?” and Reze never answers that question – and I think she planned to kill him in the phone booth but was disarmed by him. He wasn’t at all what she expected. (Note that she never really commits to taking his heart until he refuses to run away with her and says he’s committed to his job.) She scoffs at him at the end by saying “it was all fake” but it’s a reasonable read to believe she’s lying… because after thinking about things for some hours, she chooses to go back to the café to find him, where unfortunately she “meets her makima” instead. Makima is a jealous master and doesn’t want Reze to interfere with Denji. [I guess you guys chalked it up as punishing her for her crimes, which is truth as well -- but Makima is always most concerned about what interferes with her plans, and she didn't bother to kill Reze when she was escaping, ONLY when she tried to find Denji again.] So there’s a lot of water imagery here, and it’s fair to say that water symbolizes Reze’s vulnerability, it disarms her. She’s originally trapped in the phone booth with Denji because of the rain, and then she falls for him during the swimming pool interlude. The water droplet falls in her eye from the plane when she’s resolving to do her job, so… instead she invites Denji to the carnival where she begs him to run off with her. (That goes bad, so… back to business?) And then at the end, it’s the water that Denji drops them both into that neutralizes her power and ends the fight. Remember that spider that ate the butterfly while Denji and Reze were swimming? We were so worried about Denji falling in love with a dangerous person that we didn’t stop to realize it might have been Reze that was experiencing the dangers of falling in love. [and thanks to you guys who mentioned that monarchs are poisonous, so both the spider and the butterfly were dangerous to each other.] This all made her vulnerable to Denji and suggested she had hope for a better future (after her crappy childhood, where she didn't get to go to school either), which unfortunately in the city (city mice, sigh) gets her killed. We never knew that we needed Denji riding a giant shark through the sky, or all of those crazy explosions. Humor, wild fun, pathos, longing, beautiful (with both surreal AND realistic) animation, so many unexpected setups that then twist the plot in unexpected ways. Just a movie with literally everything in it. The Shark Fiend name IS “Beam”. I dunno, I won’t belabor the point, but thanks for giving me another excuse to rewatch this film. I just adore it.

I can't say enough good about MAPPA honestly. I'm glad the working conditions there seem to have improved, because they deserve that. They are really masters of their craft and go the extra mile. It's not just the visuals, although they are spectacular, it's everything including music, pacing, and just how they approach a scene and make it interesting instead of flat.

Funny thing, Death Battle did end up making a Bakugo and Reze episode. Lots of spoilers for MHA and a tiny bit of Chainsaw Man, but it’s a blinks and you miss it. That said, I really enjoyed the movie. I think I like it more than Season 1. Reze is a pretty interesting character and her relationship with Denji was great to see. And it almost seems to be a tradition to see Aki lose his lifespan. Cut by the curse devil and the Angel unwilling taking it by touching Aki. Oh and yes, the shark fiend is good boy. His name is Beam
