Pointclouds (without lidar) Tutorial | TouchDesigner

on the theme of disintegration, we are looking at Pointclouds. How to create them, work with them in touchdesigner, and manipulate them as we turn it into a little particle system. ---------------- an excellent tutorial by @b2bk going further into depth. https://youtu.be/dF0sj_R7DJY?si=VI18IKM5gWI3mgPh ---------------- 0:00 intro 0:55 making the pointclouds 1:20 rendering the pointcloud 3:21 color 4:20 basic manipulation 7:05 creating the feedback loop 11:55 one more thing @simondavidryden on instagram https://simondavidryden.bandcamp.com/ Remember to subscribe ---------------- Specs: Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400F 2.50 GHz Installed RAM: 16,0 GB GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti

Hello, I have a question for you. During the operation, the thresh function does not seem to work. No matter how I adjust the parameters, it has little effect, so that in the end it is static and does not become dynamic. How to solve this?

Hi, when Ioad my own .ply pointcloud it goes black and I get in Geo error message: All OPS must generate the same number of intences. Not sure what I'm doling wrong. Thanks

Yeah, that happens when the color and position operator have different resolutions. It could be two things. Make sure you drag and drop the new point cloud to the select point file TOP. And then press 1 to reset the feedback loop (so it grabs the new resolution ) Send me a dm if the problem persists

hey~ I'm having trouble importing my ply model file into the TD framework, I get an error"warning: Failed to open file: Error opening PLY file.(/projectl/brains)"\geo CHOP error"Error: All OPs must generate the same number of instances (have the same length). (/project1/geol1)"wo, I've tried to re-associate the model file but it's still giving me an error, I don't know what's going on here. I don't know where the problem is.I'm not sure if it's a TD version issue, I updated to the 2022.33910 version and still have the same problem

Hello, I would like to ask for advice. After importing my ply model, Point File SelectS cannot recognize RGB information, and there are only nx/ny/nz options in the R/G/B option bar. Please tell me how to solve this problem. This causes my model to be unable to obtain color information after importing it.

supermarket sallad (simon david ryden)

Maybe try using those… are there no other channels available. it sounds odd, since it seems like those are normals. But maybe it’s just named incorrectly. Or maybe you need to export your pointcloud in another way.

小波 胡

Well, the source of my model is Sketchfab, and then I export it to a ply. format file through blender. Will this method cause the loss of image information?

supermarket sallad (simon david ryden)

I don’t know actually, I don’t have much experience with that. But make sure you are exporting the positions and colors. Have you tried using the channels you do have?

小波 胡

Um, thank you for your patience. This is indeed a rare problem. Apart from Setchfab, I don’t know if there is any other channel to obtain files in this format. I am indeed troubled by the source of the file. I am now Having scannable objects didn't satisfy me, I wanted some magnificent models, but all I had around me was my room and my dog. Maybe using blender to convert file formats isn't the best method in itself? Do you know where I can download models that support these?

Same problem here, when i loaded in the example ply, it works, but not with my imported model.. i figured it has something to do with the xyz size or resolution that ply file contains which interfere with the threshold value, adding a math TOP in front of the threshold seems to work but not after adding feedback..any other ways to select points or how to normalized ply file's input?

hello! i can import the ply however theres a little X in the geo1 and i dont know how to fix it? help please, much thanks!

your scan is too large as in scale not point heavy, I had to scale my pc down in xyz to 0.0002 in TD using transform for the threshold to take effect. use the example file as an example scale to work with.

alsoguppyme

Hey there, I love the Scaniverse app. Thanks for including it in the tutorial. I encountered a snag. The .ply using Scaniverse somehow id not reflected with as much fidelity compared to your .ply. Can you extend the settings used in the app?

lol I need a tutorial just on how I replace my PLY within the TOE you provided

I've been pulling my hear out on this one. Whenever I try such effects on much larger point clouds, the noise effect in the feedback loop makes my points stay rather static, as if they rotate in a small area, only very little movement, no such fluid motion as in this tutorial. Turning up the amplitude or something often results in a big cloud of dust, nothing nice. Any idea why this is? I feel like I tried everything by now.
