We sometimes label fighters derisively as "athletic cheaters" in MMA, but all the greatest fighters off all time have intelligently built coherent games around their most absurd physical traits.

Whether it's Holloways ungodly combination of chin and endurance or Topuria's hands of stone, just having physical traits doesn't automatically make you one of the best ever; you have to build a style that weaponizes those traits.

Thank you for having me! Was a pleasure talking with you

I think Aldo is interesting for this because it almost feels like he sold himself short in terms of how much he did rely on his athleticism at his peak. This is of course caveated with the fact he was pretty arguably the best fighter ever during that period? But what I mean is that there wouldn’t be an “arguably” if he *realistically* applied his acute self awareness even more at the time because I think him being an avid learner or student of the game was always apparent hence his rapid improvement prior to his peak but that even moreso came out both tactically and strategically when he couldn’t do the things he used to for 25 or even 15 by the end because of his athletic decline

Three hours? I can't find that many things to clean while I listen along

i love that the clout chasing dude that I said had the worst analysis thread ever was actually referenced here. Great pod covering so many important topics that most fans don't even think about

Paddy a hyper athlete?

Joanna Dangerfield

I know its hard to believe because he looks weird and is british but yes. Absurd size, levers, strength, and durability plus decent cardio qualifies someone as a hyper athlete in my opinion.
