It was about as weird of a fight as we could've expected and that's in large part due to Ian Garry being a particularly effective neutralizer at welterweight. Despite limiting the champs offense down to almost nothing, Garry still wasn't able to put enough of a stamp on the fight with his own offense to walk away with the decision.

I promise you that I tried to make this one shorter, but I found it too bizarrely fascinating to discuss. To some extent you can just listen to this one like a short 10min podcast because I don't break down any specific sequences in detail and instead focus on the big picture stuff.

I think, in terms of scoring rounds like the 5th and to a lesser extent the 4th, if the damage differential you're talking about is like two body kicks you just need to let it go. Like, yeah, maybe by the letter of the criteria it should win someone the round, but in the actual real world of how MMA fights are always scored that is never going to happen and you'll be happier if you come to terms with it

Yeah agree 100%. You could argue that maybe more 10-10 rounds could help this but in general indecisive rounds are always going to be difficult to score.

Really sucks when a big fight like this feels so uninteresting. Nothing fun to talk about really Thank god yan and van are fighting soon

Think I might try to put together another roundtable podcast for UFC 333 if it holds together.
