I didn't realise this is the spiderman 2.1 extended version! So make sure you have that copy

DOC OCK BABY! At the end I accidentally stopped recording just as I was about to do my outro so I do apologize! This one was very fun but did feel a lot different than the first one. Definitely some amazing scenes and the villain is great but sometimes is the cheesy cringe really needed? Either way, hope you enjoy this one guys :)

this movie’s amazing

Watching this in theaters back in the day (IN IMAX, no less) was everything 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I was not completely sold on live action adaptations of superheroes until I saw this film 💯

Usually I like extended cuts but I’ve heard mixed reviews in this case; the theatrical version was great as is (the extended comedic parts in this cut that felt like they should’ve been left on the cutting room floor likely were added back in)

I was laughing so much at your reaction to the cringe! “It’s like a fanboy edit!” 😂

Jimmy Jones

Yeah. There were so many cringe moments/moments that made no sense. I guess you can tell why Spiderman kept getting rebooted before the MCU version became popular. It's all about the writing. Sad that we won't see the Doc again. He never really was a villain. Just another victim being exploited.

Ana Mendes

I'm surprised by your reaction. But I think it might have something to do with this being the extended edition. Those extra scenes are weird and unnecessary. The theatrical version is considered one of the best comic book movies ever. This is why, for a first time viewer, I never recommend extended editions.

Michael

I think something to remember about early marvel, it was the bridge from "normal" movies to what MCU is today, huge blockbuster. It needed the fill, and love interest to bring the woman along haha.

Michael

Haha, thinking the call was still ongoing, showing your age. You didn't hear the dial tone beep.

Styx

Btw the scenes that are cringe and feel too long, Those are from the extended cut. The theatrical version is much more polished and less dragged out

Michael

Wth was that edit with him dressing up as spiderman, I don't remember this, also that agility to jump up... I really don't remember that scene.

Nathan Early

If you think this was cringey, just wait til you see Spider-Man 3. Yikes.

Kayla

I'd say your laugh is less of a wheeze and more of a charming cackle.

In Seb's defense, I didn't watch the extended version and I would still rate this film low. My opinion is that it lacks the sophistication of the other Marvel films I've seen here. It is campy with cringe dialogue. I didn't see how his life could be in such shambles -- surely he was enough of a "big boy" to manage being spiderman and his other life responsibilities. And the character arcs didn't satisfy me. But I was curious and went searching on line for what the movie was trying to say. One interpretation that resonated with me was that the film presents the contrast of 1) the notion of power as a curse. And 2) superhero-ness as a stoic moral obligation instead of a glamorous and gratifying day job. The article noted that this was radical for Marvel. If I could have seen that message in the movie, I would have liked the movie -- a wee bit more. My opinion, for what's it worth.

Michael

Ah! Now I realise why I never seen that terrible Jameson scene before.

Spider Man 2: The Return of the Cringe

Great point, Sophie, about Doc Ock's descent into madness, after starting from a kind and even wise character. This reminds me of the argument in Civil War -- where the Doc Ock story would perhaps lean in favor of Tony Stark's position?

Aegis Duensing

Usually I pretty much always want to watch the extended version of movies, but based on your analysis during the film, I would recommend watching the Theatrical version on your own at some point. Yes, it's still cheesy and cringey, but it takes some overly cringey things away. And you won't think it's overly long as well

Scott Mogey

So.... you saying you ever run out......

Scott Mogey

Overall, I think the train scene is the best of any of the Spiderman/MCU, he willingly gave up his identity and possibly his life to save them. Its like in the Mandalorian, when he had to face that choice. Needs of the many mate

What version are you watching? I keep getting out of sync every couple of minutes
