OMG I just noticed the faces of the people sitting around Grisha and Dina when they got the note from the Owl! The gray bearded guy, and the shaggy haired guy!..... Ok I see they showed him turn later, lol

Gu

take note of the warrior program and who Annie Reiner and berthold actually are , and Marley considering they are titan shifters that means they are eldians

Gu

One of the interesting things is that grisha doesn't know what the true history( I don't say that the audience weren't entirely good either they were obviously very bad eldians in the past)is either if he chooses to believe and have faith in his version while the marleans don't know the full history either that they choose to impose their version, suggesting the history is written by the victors

Ok I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought Zeke was Erwin’s dad!!! 😅 I was so convinced for the longest and was just waiting for the bombshell reveal. However, that theory died along with Erwin (because of course this would have been revealed by then).

Wow, so much information. It changes everything. I need take time to think about it and rewatch some parts to get my thoughts in order. Then I'll comment on the episode.

The start of the episode with the father telling the kids to remember the armbands that identify them as Eldians was definitely a reference to Nazis forcing Jews to use the star of David symbol during World War 2. So they're immediately establishing the Marley nation as evil (I'm using the names of these groups, but they're only said later in the episode). We get two very different versions of history, one that paints the past Eldians as horrible people and one that paints them as heroes. But neither group actually knows what happened, so the reality is probably somewhere in between. Regardless of that, the present day Eldians aren't guilt of any crimes their ancestor may or may not have committed. The episode establishes that transforming into a titan by being injected with that fluid is specific to the Eldians. That means all the humans we've seen that transform into titans must be Eldians. They said both the Eldians and Marley nation want the same thing, to get the Founding Titan from within the walls. I assume the attack was made by Marley nation, since the episode established them as villains. But that makes me wonder if any of human titans is secretly affiliated with the Eldians and that could entail.

Defo agree on the WW2 Jewish references. Whilst reading your comment I also thought that it is also somewhat connected to X-Men in a way as well. The Eldians/Titans are seen as such a threat and caused harm in the past (like Mutants), that many humans want to see them oppressed and controlled for their own safety.

Davide

The way the X-Men are treated also takes inspiration from Jews in WW2, so there could be a connection through there. Magneto is even a Holocaust survivor. But you could be right about a direct connection to the X-Men beyond sharing an inspiration. The Eldians and the Mutants having powers beyond other humans have and what you said are both elements that aren't present in WW2.

I dunno if you have noticed it, I think I kinda was oblivious to it. But the majority of names in AOT are very Germanic. Even the first opening has some German lyrics in (maybe the others do, no clue 😂)

Davide

I didn't, I'm not familiar enough with Germanic names. All I noticed is they were western names. Good one from the writer.
