With my birthday just around the corner, here’s the next installment of Dominique and Marie’s adventures. I know this chapter is a bit short, but I can assure you that the next one will be longer and will start to tie things together. So, I hope you enjoy reading it, and see you Saturday ^^CH0: https://www.patreon.com/posts/life-is-153278739CH1: https://www.patreon.com/posts/life-is-chapter-153837794CH2: https://www.patreon.com/posts/life-is-chapter-154484188

-So can I get back to my story?-Hmm.-What now?-I might upset you, but it’s a little hard to believe.-Which part?-Well, the watch that turns back time.-And yet, I’m not lying.-Let me try it then.-It won’t work unless…-Unless what?-Let me finish my story and you’ll understand everything.-Fine…-Okay, I’ll continue then.

Dominique looked at the watch, aware of its power. Everything seemed possible to him: winning every contest, hitting the jackpot, making every date a perfect success… The young man calmed down, realizing a crucial detail: such power couldn’t come without risk. This thought came from all the stories and movies he’d seen in his life. His first instinct was therefore to return to the antique shop. Unfortunately, the saleswoman was on her annual leave and wouldn’t be back for another ten days or so.

Dominique then launched into a new search on the internet, but with no more success than the previous one. He had little choice; he activated a VPN and ventured onto the deep web in the hope of finding results. His search lasted nearly a week when he discovered a site discussing the watch. He began reading the various articles, and they all spoke of the power to turn back time. What differed was the cost of these various journeys; some claimed that the user’s life served as payment. Others mentioned that it was through the soul. Finally, one last site stated something rather strange. This site claimed that the watch revealed the truth about the person.

The young man laughed at all this and went to bed. He woke up in a panic during the night; he had completely forgotten about a job interview appointment because he had been so engrossed in his research. Without a moment’s hesitation, he grabbed the watch and asked it to go back nearly twenty-four hours before returning to bed.

When he woke up, he had indeed turned back time once again, thus saving his finances. He began to get dressed for his appointment when he noticed a troubling detail.

His suit, though tailor-made, was now too loose. At first he thought he’d mistakenly grabbed his father’s, but the name on the lining proved otherwise. He started to panic, how could he have lost so much muscle mass in a week?

He refused to believe that missing a week of training could make his muscles melt away to that extent. It should have been the opposite.

He then remembered the phrase he’d seen on the last website: “The truth about the person.” He shook his head; he was sure of who he was. A man and nothing else. He buried his face in his hands, seeming to struggle against something.

-No, this isn’t going to happen again. I don’t want to suffer, not again!”

Dominique collapsed to the floor, in a state of total panic, tears streaming from his eyes.

Back to the present

-What on earth are you…

-Stop interrupting me. Can’t you wait until I’m finished before asking questions?

To be continued...
