If the joke here upsets you... uh well first I'm not sure how you can be here, reading a porn comic, without having a sense of humor, but also you can totally imagine that one of the wishes made was the erasure of original sin which would obviate the need for churches. There, justification applied

Serves no function? What changed exactly. (I get the joke I'm being snarky)

Dhaka Yeena

Amen to that sweet sweet booty

Sunpup

Here to worship that booty

hiddenstranger

looks like a very suspicious building

Arty Harty

Original sin was removed as Rick said, which served as one of the foundations of organized religion. In this case, what’s the point of attending religious service while everyone experiences no shame.

scrapsthehyena

You say porn comic when porn has no artistic value what you do has plenty of artistic value it's erotic art, the only so-called "art" that should be called porn is anything AI generated/ assisted. The moment someone puts tool to medium and puts their creativity into a project just so long as the aren't abusing or exploiting anyone it's art

scrapsthehyena

Monotheism was to prudish to servive in a free love world

Darkest Sword

So SEXY and EROTIC and GORGEOUS, the BUTTS and the NAKED!!!

Kimba

No offense taken. I read a summary of Paradise Lost.

zeel

Maybe that's how it granted whatever wish made sex and nudity not shameful. No shame? Must be that nobody ate that forbidden fruit.

Kia Vaderkit

Some of the old churches here were turned into baller pubs...

zeel

Heh, my Sunday school days are long behind me, but I actually nailed that. Realizing they were naked was a direct result of eating the fruit, so in a way the simplest way to remove the shame associated with nudity would be to reverse that one decision. The side effects of that would be rather enormous. Of course if Genesis is cannon in this story, it would mean the Old Testament God exists and I'm not sure if that would be compatible with the rest of the lore.

I just want to see people deal with the fact that this was contracted and built by people, and the person paying for it just shrugs when asked why they made that building. "I dunno, dude. I felt like it." *leaves building they paid for completely empty and never does anything with it* And this was apparently a common practice, especially in America for a long time. That's the funny part for me

Muddypaws

That’s it.., you hump that plushie! You show it who’s boss!

Kirk Findlay

they are back to wearing tops too, interesting? Who is visiting these wishing stones constantly and the world keeps changing around them?

Adam Myers

Actually, I think it is more that god wasn’t concerned with worship. If you read the Old Testament, it took a while before people even started to call on the name of god.

Adam Myers

I understand that that was intended to be funny, but I think it is more interesting as serious theology and philosophy. What would a world be like without sin? Indeed, shame, sin, and vulnerability are all connected. The shame from sex and nudity are largely connected from a desire to protect oneself from attack while in a vulnerable position, combined with our mirror neurons that make us feel secondhand shame by seeing others in a state of vulnerability. Without this, and without divine law, there is no possibility of sin. Strangely, there is likely no communion with god and no fundamental fear of death (iirc in Catholicism nominal souls are reincarnated). I don’t see you exploring this idea as that doesn’t seem to be your intent, but it is a fascinating idea to me. Thank you for your work.

Dalamin Aubis

It obviously has a function. Poetry Club and Bingo Night.

MultiverseProductions

It's probably to make the other Clay a little more comfortable. They don't know yet that he's getting used to this universe pretty fast

Dalamin Aubis

They do still have clothing items, they just seem to be used more for weather conditions or a touch of style. Indoors they seem almost completely unused except for situations like Clay's Mom using a cooking apron.

FarmWolf

No worries. As a Christian who has rejected both original sin and vicarious redemption (the idea that Christ died for our sins) I think I understand where you're coming from. :)

zeel

I don't think the wish erased clothing and fashion, it's just purely an accessory or for climate reasons, there is no concept of "modesty" but there would still be a concept of "cold" or "that top looks great on you!"

Poofin

John Lennon died for this

loved_and_loving

Going topless is pretty standard for this world. Clothing isn't needed and most go without it but it has some uses. It's comfy, and their hoddies have pockets which can carry their phones.

One of the things I noticed going through this comic is Rick leaves some very interesting world building ideas on the table to work with. In fact, the entire reason the world exists, the pillars, is already a really fascinating worldbuilding idea on it's own. Like, you could write multiple essays just examining the idea alone and it's implications. Also what i find really interesting is the pillars could easily tie into Rick's other work. Like the fact that all mammals are anthropamorphic in the Housepets universe but it otherwise seems like our world could be a result of the pillars.
