From an instructor view point. It's bad form not to teach students the proper stance and then work up to speed. Otherwise the student will become sloppy and lose their motivation because they don't understand why things aren't working right for them. It's not their fault but the instructor's. However, in this case, it's a good gag and he deserves it, even if I had trouble understanding the reasoning at first.
