I feel you about moving. My dad was in the construction services. Wherever the company went his company sent him along. Tire services. We moved about every two years till he got a new job and we stayed put. High school years. And to make it worse I was bussed to another high school to equalize the racial imbalances of the times. One of 25 white students sent to a predominantly black high school in the late 60s. Tensions ran a bit high then. I got along well however. I knew how to not antagonize folks. Just get along.

Sadly a lot of people will foster children for the state benefits. There is subsidized groceries and clothing for the children on top of an honestly low monthly stipend. It is an easily abused system by people with ill intents. Meanwhile the people who go into it solely to help the children rarely know about these reimbursements outside of the monthly stipend and a one time necessities allowance when a new child enters the house.

One of the biggest issues with the foster care system is that the most eager participants are worse at parenting than your typical orphanage.

I've never understood how "parents get to choose how their kids are raised" gets accepted as an excuse for obviously harmful parenting. That already sounds like a terrible idea. Those same bad parents then getting more kids to raise? Horrible.
