I’m not a drinker unless if it’s like a chillis* margarita here and there with barely any alcohol lol so i didn’t plan on buying it, but i did see the backlash ur talking about. But because of it i might just go out and buy it once my check hit

So, I hate capitalism and the whole idea of class structures as well, and all rich people (imo) deserve criticism, but of course these critiques get really murky when it comes to members of marginalized groups cuz so many of the hot takes speak more to people's prejudices than any real issues. More conversations need to be had about the delulu surrounding Beyonce though, cuz it's a THING, dating all the way back to folks attributing her success to Aaliyah's death. I just had to burst somebody's bubble the other day about how Aaliyah was the actual Nepo baby of the 2 of them, and that's no shade whatsoever to Aaliyah cuz I loved that girl, but I feel like that's why I know that lol.

First, I must say I am very critical of her because I engage with her music and other things she does. I also think we should not defend rich people who do not do much with their money and influence. If she had invested in Black infrastructure, I would have said less about her. I think some of her criticism is because she is such an easy target, and we all tend to notice what she does good or bad. I had to accept she is no different than most celebrities/people. The money guides their politics. I believe she tried to embody a Black radical/intellectual aesthetic in her art, but her actions didn't align with that, and it ended up negatively impacting her. Then again, so many celebrities do this, but people pay more attention to her. I remember someone said they did not think individual critiques of celebrities were that helpful, at this point, and I agree. At some point, we are disproportionally holding Beyonce to standards we don't even bother to put on celebrities who are doing it and making more money. I think the best we could do in regards to her and others and just decide if we will give our attention or not. First time in my life I did not give much attention to the new album. I thought Cowboy Carter showed up at a bad time and I thought the intentions she expressed about the album versus what the album actually was did not make sense. Her politics are mud·dle. To some, it looks insincere, the mentioning of her Uncle during Reinissane (I always side-eye this). I would say to myself and others: How you want to deal with Beyonce is your choice, but make sure you have some media literacy, and you are not mindlessly consuming music and other things. Don't shut out every critique of her and other celebs.

I feel like being uncomfortable with her politics (or lack thereof) is perfectly fine, and critiquing how that interacts with her art and aesthetic makes perfect sense. I’m really confused about what this has to do with her putting out a liquor brand or any product outside of her artistic output tho. These products are to diversify her portfolio and also to put herself into luxury product spaces where historically Black people haven’t been. She explains how they are relevant to her lineage and history and we, the consumers, decide if we want to consume or not. What more than that should be done? I’m also confused about the constant criticism of Beyonce as if she has done nothing for Black infrastructure. She has given millions of dollars in grants for the creation and support of Black owned businesses, has given out millions of dollars for Black students to attend college, including HBCUs, community college, beauty school, and fashion institutions, has given millions of dollars to provide school lunches and to support programs like music and physical education in underserved Black schools, she donated her entire paycheck from Cadillac Records to a rehabilitation center for recovering Black addicts in honor of Etta James, she and Jay Z personally bailed out hundreds of protesters from jail during Black Lives Matter protests and paid for their legal representation… and that is just off the top of my head. Beyonce has given a lot of money to support Black infrastructure, she is actually someone that has done A LOT with her money and influence, she’s just not an openly RADICAL figure the way that people want and to me that is the real issue. Beyonce let’s her money and her art do the talking and what people really want is for her to go on IG Live and say Free Palestine or something and that’s never going to happen.
