A Kick In The Teeth! Podcast E150: BEYONCE BOWL PT. 2 (Patreon)

My Related Work: The [Black] Americans playlist (YouTube):

This podcast was inspired by comments on last week's podcast and commentary across the internet as a whole on the deeper meanings of the Beyonce Bowl. To me, the main takeaways are:

1. MAGA has co-opted any and all American symbolism to the point where anything ‘American’ is seen as white nationalist despite the fact that other groups live here and have history and culture here.

2. Lack of nuance around the concept of two America’s ie the America of oppressed people surviving under an imperial colonist system of racism white supremacy and the America of the oppressor.

3. Lack of understanding of Black American culture and history outside of things like rap music. People are not getting what Beyonce is referencing so they just fall back on stereotypes.

4. Beyonce being a capitalist is a valid critique but something I always keep in the back of my mind about this criticism is how do we determine compensation for Black women artists?
