Don't Call Me A Person of Color: I'm Black - Riot Material

by Seren Sensei A strange thing happens when you say the word "Black" as it pertains to race. People will often curl their lips up, as if you've said something distasteful or inappropriate; the color might drain from their faces in an expression akin to dread.

Was just looking at the Spike Lee "She's Gotta have it" video of yours. I feel like Spike put respectability politics on the alter in the original She's Gotta have it, and in Mo Better Blues and in Jungle Fever to a certain extent now that I think about it. If you (seren) or anyone else that makes video content actually gets a chance it would be great to pop off a discussion about how and when black cinema has framed respectibilty politics up to now.
