Yep, "If it's in the cloud, it's on *someone else's* computer." I remember when Nickelodeon stopped playing reruns of Avatar. It was the first time i realized that companies could just remove their stuff and I'd no longer have access to it unless i bought DVD collections of them. Streaming has just made their ability to control how or if we experience media even more obvious. Since then i decided to take apart my mom's old laptop to get the DVD drive from it and i have a 5TB hdd now for the digital stuff

Yeah... I've kinda never stopped thinking about this concept, as I never "transitioned" into the "modern" times, if you will. loll! I've always collected my CDs... And I'm SO upset with myself for losing or tossing my CASSETTES from way back when I started collecting music as a child! Maaaan... Those memories are SO vivid of being in the store as a child and picking through the cassettes as a child and then eventually "evolving" to CDs when I could afford them with my own dollars as a working teenager. loll. But yeah. One of the best example of this like, "psy-op" is Beyonce randomly modifying her lyrics after everything... I mention her in particular bc I bought her physical CD. And Immediately felt like, oh, my cd is now a part of a particular "history" now that it's been modified. Same for all of the Aaliyah albums I have. I never felt the absence of her music bc I always had my own copies! Lastly, the psy-op was so disturbing when all the black sitcoms started streaming on netflix. And then they had to modify the MUSIC that was a CULTURAL MARKER of those specific times! I was like, am I delusional??? This is NOT what used to be here!! lollll! Anyway, I'll stop there. I can go on and on bc like I said, I'm always thinking about this stuff 🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing your insight!
