Let me also just say this: To me the core problems with Twitter have gotten to the point where they are not necessarily just with coming across ‘controversial’ topics, nastiness, or negativity- the platform itself represents a monopolization of information and ability for extremism and radicalism to flourish that is inherently harmful. Multiple sources for information that you can compare and contrast is a good thing. People getting all their info from one place, be it Twitter, Tik tok, Facebook, IG etc is bad; information all in one place and charlatans being able to grow their audiences is bad. We would definitely have no Trump without Twitter. No Marjorie Taylor Greene without Twitter. Elon Musk greatly grew his public persona and reach on there. I do also think Twitter is affecting peoples [in]ability to engage with reality and empathy across the board, but that’s also social media in general.

Also, I have an issue with the way it’s been integrated so heavily into our public infrastructure (like if you have a problem with something totally non-internet/Twitter related they say go to Twitter support). I shouldn’t have to go on Twitter to find out why my electricity is out 😩 Or if so then it needs to be treated as public infrastructure and regulated as such. The light company can’t ban people from contacting them if they have a problem but ppl can be banned from Twitter which essentially bans people from public infrastructure support.
