Ron is on some weird ass shit. I do wonder how far he’ll see all of this through now that he’s trying to run for President. It makes sense though. If you look at some of these comment sections and discussion boards, these people REALLY hate lgbt and people of color, they wanna keep going to Disney but don’t wanna be forced to interact with people who are outside of their white Christian world views. With the price increases (which are ridiculous. Disney and universal are both showing their whole ass with the price of shit) you see all these middle class people talking about how Disney is being made to expensive for normal families and is catering to the wealthy. Meanwhile I never went to Disney as a kid. We would have NEVER been able to afford it. It had already priced out a significant portion of the population 60 years ago. People go down there once in a lifetime if they’re lucky. All of this to say yes. Remakes are good for kids who have no interest in watching the original version of stuff. It’s weird af to see adults taking this shit so seriously, when the kids would probably just like to watch a damn movie. My son LOVES the ninja turtles. I showed him the Jim Henson puppet one when he was like 4 and he liked it well enough. But he now prefers the newer styles and tv shows. Kids don’t even really watch the Disney renaissance style of animation anymore. Hell! My kid barely watches TV!

My mind is going everywhere with this. 1. The implications/impact of a group of kids seeing The Little Mermaid (2023) as their reference more than original can totally see the bigots hating that. It makes me think of Brandy's Cinderella the impact of that but on even different scale. Its so normalized in young peoples media to not get their perspective. 2. I'm interested in seeing how people think about The Little Mermaid (2023) in the future. Are they going to view The Little Mermaid the same way they view Brandy's Cinderella or Princess and the Frog or Wish? 3. Young adult and middle grade books but specifically ya is seeing impact of adults being centered. Why are books 500+ pages and dense when we are in literary crisis of getting kids to read? Its interesting that when the discussions about adults reading young adult books first came up people pushed back on it. Of course they pushed back on it because a lot of people reporting on it focused on shaming adults for reading ya and didn't have the foresight to see some of the real issues that was going to come up from it. One of the issues is adults are paying the dollars so publishing has shifted to their needs over young readers. I can see this possibly being problem in other sectors of media. 4. On Star Wars it makes me think about the new show that is about to come out Skeleton Crew being for kids and how so many people feel automatically like it's bad because it's for kids. Like if Star Wars is not for the straight male adult audience it's automatically in the trash (not putting on the problems on bigots because bad writing is in building too). On the other hand it also brings to mind the Acolyte and how there's a push to make Star Wars more for women which some people feel means more sexual and romantic. I wonder if all the negativity is part of reason you see kids looking at anime instead. 5. I wish Dungeons and Dragons was more successful so we could've gotten more.

Phew the centering of adults in YA with 500+ page and extremely dense books is a GREAT POINT. I love YA and even I'm finding it hard to get through some of these books (Legendborn, I'm looking at you!). I looked it up recently and the first Harry Potter book had about 77k words which is roughly 150-200 pages!
