Hiss definitely did look good. And I am feeling the snake allegory. I haven’t listened to the rest of the album but I hope she comes out with at least one song dedicated to her past mistakes and learning from them.

I wouldn't be so sure about comparing this beef to any others thus far. Megan has 2 things going for her where the other girlies had 1. 1. Megan is also a current A-Lister like Nicki. Her fanbase may not be as large since she hasn't been one for 15 years like Nicki, but she is undeniably an it-girl rn. 2. Megan can rap her ass off. And she's clever. Many people including Nicki try to say otherwise since she's southern and people really don't like southern BAs, but we know she has that sharpness with a pen. I think something absolutely catastrophic would have to happen for her to just completely fall off like Belcalis.

I don’t expect Megan to ‘fall off.’ But A-lister like Nicki is objectively a false statement when Meg last release sold 68k and Nicki last release sold 228k. When Nicki is about to go on a world tour and Meg has never toured, world or otherwise. When Nicki has 228mil followers and Meg has 31 mil. A-lister like Nicki where, how, by what metric? Meg is an A lister and is very popular. But not like Nicki. Nicki career is established. Meg is not. She needs this next album to do well or else she is going down the Saweetie road of being a very popular influencer. Not a rapper.

I agree with some of the things you said. Megan and a lot of Gen Z artist suffer from half-baked/mediocre ideas. The ideas aren’t bad they just need workshopping and good development. A lot of artist suffer from modern day marketing , one or two post on social media and MAYBE a jimmy fallon performance. Artists and Labels are not prioritizing the building of an audience and the sales suffer

I’m also one of those fans that really wants Meg to DELIVER an album— a certified classic. I can’t help but feel like Meg is getting in her own way right now, she’s making “contemporary trap” but her focus should be “classic hip-hop” (J. Cole - Born Sinner, Tupac - Me against the world). She needs new and fresh producers, and songs that are longer than 2-3 minute popcorn hits. I believe in her but I do agree that she’s not utilizing her FULL potential.

Totally agree. Like I really believe she could give us a Miseducation of Lauryn Hill caliber project. There are glimmers of it there. Whats considered the last Mt. Rushmore’s of hip hop (Drake, Nicki, Kendrick, Cole) are literally getting older and younger artists need to step up. Meg could be a leader of the new school, I need her to get her music together.

The Megan’s Law line still have ya girl in a frenzy which is ashamed. No one owes Nicki any loyalty. The girl left the internet for damn near a whole year and Nicki was still talking shit about her. She is pathetic at this point.

I disagree and think Hiss is definitely a strong concept. Snakes hiss to express emotions (fear, annoyance), signal digestion and shedding. If we apply this to the song and her experiences in recent years it tracks. I feel like this song is signaling that a major change is in the works. She could be saying she’s entering a villain era where she comes after everyone who she feels slighted by. The bars aren’t legendary but they’re definitely strong enough to cause Nicki to publicly spiral for like 36 hours. Also, even though these singles could be apart of an album rollout, they seem like precursors/preludes that might not make it onto her next project. I do agree with your comments about her sales performance and the lack of quality in her recent music. I want her to focus on putting out the best music she can possibly make by taking time to learn more about her craft and improving her musicianship. Also congrats on 100 episodes!

I get that it was like Hiss/Diss as in this is her hissing/dissing. I guess I personally want more leaning into the shedding of the skin and the double entendres about Meg being a snake. I want full blown SLYTHERIN lol yes I want a villain era! Give it to me now! And I really just thought the video looked amazing but was very unfocused. Also Nicki went at Latto for like a whole year when she spoke on Nicki’s husband and family, I don’t think it’s that the bars are so good, it’s just that Nicki has literally addressed everyone that spoken on her family/husband. Bloggers, rappers, everyone. But it doesn’t affect Nicki’s career in any way. I just want some new material at this point. (And vice versa, tired of hearing about Meg’s feet. Nicki could’ve came much harder than that as well.)

Idk I'm personally hopeful for this new era. I like Cobra and Hiss, and I think Megan is headed in the right direction. I do agree with you in that this era needs to be fleshed out a bit more, and I hope she doesn’t get overshadowed by the beef of it all...

I'm also glad you touched on #1’s being fake. Having a #1 song doesn’t have the same impact as it did before....like...they feel contrived. Of course you have bonafide hits still and organic hits, but I feel like payola is stronger than ever, despite being illegal 🤧😩

Meg is an independent artist rn and there’s a conspiracy floating that she’s about to sign with Atlantic. If that happens I will die laughing lmao because this is Atlantic’s strategy for the girls on their roster. Beef with Nicki for attention then put an industry push behind the other girl. It’s giving industry strategy at this point even if Atlantic isn’t involved.

It's interesting what you said about music videos. I feel like part of the reason why Beyoncé did visual albums was to encourage people to consume her albums in their entirety, not just the singles, as the visual component can keep your attention. I've now gotten used to feeling like a video can improve the quality of a song or even provide more context for it, so that the music is easier to consume. But I guess sometimes videos make it so that a song doesn't have to stand on its own. I also feel like great live performances can improve my perception of whether a song is good or not, or make me more inclined to listen to it.

I liked "Hiss," and I actually think that it was successful in that it did exactly what Meg intended for it to do and more; however, you told absolutely no lies in this episode. I totally agree that by now Meg should be a more polished artist, she has this amazing raw talent, but it's still giving diamond in the rough. I also wanna see Meg water her own flowers a bit more, like don't let your bars be so reactionary all the time, instead let us see/hear how your trials and tribulations have changed or effected you. The word of the day is catharsis Megan! lol. I like that you mentioned Doja Cat as well, because I was actually thinking

I agree with everything you said pertaining to Megan's music, but If we're gonna say its hip hop then there should be nothing wrong with Megan responding at Nicki whose been dissing her for years now. Nicki has clowned Meg getting shot and everything lmao. Pressure should be put on her too get at Nicki IMO. Meg got every right to diss Nicki. Now I will say can a argument be made that Megan is playing it safe and being looked at as a victim? Yes. But either way that's still in a way gonna happen due to Nickis age, character and history with female rappers in general. And we also haven't been given a REAL reason as to why they fell out anyway (which I'm sure we all actually know why).

Also, I'm so late to this conversation ik lol. But in terms of Megan selling, I feel like she's not doing that bad compared to artist from her generation. A lot of artist aren't debuting #1, top 10 or top #32. Cobra also wasn't radio friendly and its the same for Hiss. Megan is independent, so there's the lack of radio play and promotion there and on top of that she doesn't do as much as other artist in terms of manipulating her sales or streams in my opinion. Her and Doja Cat really just be dropping their music and if it resonates it'll do good. They never made charts their main focus or goal in my opinion which works out well for them, but I feel they do have to make up for that with quality.

Also, as we can see today. Megan is going on tour and it's doing pretty good. A lot of male rappers can't sell out a arena tour on there own. Gunnas tour right now didn't do that good initially. So there's a lot of artist not selling. Shit offset can't even sell. The only ones really selling are the biggest artist who've been around for 10+ years.
