Random Cafe, London [1991]

–Ed Hooman–

“Here you go,” He looked up from his book, as the waitress- Tammy was her name– gave him his black coffee along with an extremely creamy, sweet treat. An odd choice, perhaps, but one that he had come to love in the year he had been here.

“Thank you,” He thanked her, and took the cup in his hand, resuming his staring out the window, straight at a small grimy shop that was nestled between a book store and an antique record shop. He furrowed his brows as he found his brain being constantly bombarded with an urge to look past the grimy shop that just looked disgusting to him, as if his brain was forcing him to move on from that shop by the mere sight of it.

Thankfully, this was not his first rodeo, and he expertly ignored that urge, focusing on the grimy shop that was so narrow it would be basically impossible for two people to enter or exit at the same time. Of course, he knew that because of the wonders of magic, they could make that small area big enough to fit entire elephants through. He was just here to take one last look at the area he had been frequenting the entire time he had been in London, because tomorrow was the day.

The day he will finish his magnum opus, so far anyway. Something that will tip the scales in his favour so much so that he will be able to act with impunity in most of the magical world. He could ignore most of the planet’s defenses as if they were nonexistent and do all the things he was deathly afraid of doing without an overwhelming defense/offense combo on his side.

Draining the cup with one final gulp, he looked at the people just moving past the grimy shop and sighed. At first, he held hope. That he was like the other wizards. A normal wizard, if there could ever be something normal about someone who could do localised reality warning simply by willing it through a piece of magical world.

Alas, that notion had been swiftly disproved as he realised just what, or rather, who he had become in this world.

Ed Hooman. An electrician.

An utterly non magical muggle, if people ignored the magic he could do with his hands during all the jobs he had been part of until now. Someone who, at his best, could have worked most of his life, bought a house, married someone, had kids, and then maybe enjoyed retirement for a couple of years until he bit the dust.

Honestly, a life that would have been far better than what will be afforded to the average person thirty years from now. As a resident of the 2026 timeline, with the economy, geopolitics, and the planet being what it was, many would weep tears of joy if given the chance to take his position.

He would have been glad as well, if not for one giant asterisk that just made a frankly cushy and stable life utterly unattractive.

You are a magician in the Harry Potter world, just not the regular kind. Have fun figuring that out!

P.S - You’re now responsible for the world. Break it, save it, raise havoc? Do whatever. Just know that at the end, someone will judge you for it, and it better be good. No Pressure!

He was in a magical world, just without the kind of magic that was necessary for him to participate in said magical world. Something that stung. Stung a lot.

Yes, woe is me. I have magic! But not the specific kind of magic that everyone else has. Is it weak? No. Does it hurt me? No. Is it usable? Hell yeah.

Banishing those ridiculous thoughts, he made sure to finish his pastry before getting up. Tonight, a new player was going to enter the field, and the world will never be the same because of it.

Hogwarts

–Albus Dumbledore–

His eyes snapped open, a light sigh escaping his lips as he looked around his room and realised that it was night, which meant that it was a proper emergency that led to the Ministry calling on him.

Feeling every single bit of his one hundred and ten years, he slowly got off the bed, his hand twitching as he cast the series of self hygiene spells wandlessly. Yet another wave of his hand had his wand flying towards him, along with his clothing changing into his preferred whimsical clothing.

This might be an emergency, but he had an image to maintain, and the absence of any Patronuses meant that–

His thoughts stuttered to a halt as a familiar patronus manifested in front of him.

“Albus, I just received multiple alerts from the Ministry. All officials with Senior clearance are being called in. I will handle things here. You go on ahead. It seems… serious.”

With its piece done, the patronus dissipated, leaving behind a very tense atmosphere. He sighed heavily this time and disappeared from his position, appearing in his office, startling Fawkes who squawked indignantly at him.

“Sorry, old friend.” Taking a moment to apologize to Fawkes, he turned to the Floo, and after saying Ministry Atrium, he jumped in, hoping to appear in the now sparsely populated Atrium, only for his eyebrows to rise as he saw it full of Ministry employees and just..chaos. Chaos everywhere. People were running, jogging, talking, screaming, writing, and performing a number of activities that were just a combination of the aforementioned activities.

They were so busy in their respective tasks that it took everyone a few moments to register his presence and even then, it was not the usual reception he received. Most of them just acknowledged his presence and moved back to their work, while the Minister's secretary came to greet him.

“The meeting has already begun, Chief Warlock. This way, please.” Well, if that was not a sign of things being far from usual, then he didn’t know what was. He was not one to boast about his personal station, but, usually, most meetings he was invited to, were kept on hold until he showed up, not because he was the most important person in that meeting, but simply because everyone in that meeting expected him to solve whatever it was that they themselves could not.

He could see it, the people in power, atleast here in Magical Britain, did not like him much, based on different reasons. Even the people whom he called his allies had more than one reason to be wary of all his power, the less said about the people on the other side, the better. All in all, even if some part of the nobility liked his goals, they did not like what he represented.

And that was the concentration of power into the hands of a single person.

Holding multiple positions, he was, for better or worse, the face of Magical Britain. Magical Britain was famous for, amongst other reasons, for being the birthplace of some of the most powerful wizards of the century, with him reigning supreme simply because he was the only one who could walk out in the open without people screaming in fear or fighting him, out for his blood.

A reality that many people simply did not like, which is why he was informed about most issues only when it was clear to everyone in the chain of command that they could not solve it. He was their last resort, and as such, the fact that the meeting had begun without him, and at such a late night meant they had encountered something that they were hoping to solve on their own but were simply incapable of doing so, hence the late night calls to Minvera and him.

“This way,” She opened the door for him, and the second she did, the hushed whisper stopped, as everyone in the room turned to him. He was alarmed to see the haggard looks on everyone’s faces, especially Bones, who was known to not flinch in the face of anything, actually. Having lost most of her family to the war, he had more than once, commended her on her sense of fairness, even when it came to dealing with people who were directly responsible for the death of her brother and sister in law, leaving behind little Susan Bones, who was scheduled to begin her schooling later this year, he believed.

“Oh, thank Merlin, he’s here,” He heard Griselda comment, something that confused him in equal measure, as it alarmed him, as she never ventured out of her department, which was the Wizarding Examinations Authority, a valued part of the Ministry, but certainly not something that could be called upon in the case of an emergency.

“Don’t look at me like that, Dumbledore,” She snapped at him, rolling her eyes as she was one of the very few who was still in the workforce who talked to him like that. Like, he was normal and not one of the many posts he held. It was… refreshing.

“They called in everyone with Senior level clearance. I think they are going to take some drastic actions, but do take a seat. This is interesting.”

No sooner had his behind touched the uncomfortable seat than Bones jumped into action, “Pro–Chief Warlock, we have had multiple attacks on multiple places in the past five hours. It began with Knockturn Alley, or atleast that’s what we thought. That was just the first one whose news reached our ears.”

A floating document reached him as he snatched it out of the air before flipping through the pages, eyes widening slightly as he saw the records and the photos of the destruction left behind, with Knockturn Alley left for the last.

A series of stores were just molten lava right now.

“We believe those stores were the primary targets.” Bones continued, “Interrogation of their neighbours has revealed that they were primary dealers in human trafficking in the Alley.”

His neck snapped up at that, as his hold tightened on the folder. After a moment, he sighed, tired, as, unfortunately as it was, he had grown used to getting regular reports of the worst of what humanity had to offer, inflicting more and more pain on people weaker than them, right up until it blew in their faces.

He just wished, every time, that he could have reached them earlier, saved some people from the horrific suffering.

The rest of the destruction made sense as well. Known vampire dens. Known Werewolf hotspots. Known Black Market locations that were allowed to exist simply because it was easier to regular and control known locations instead of having to search for their gathering every single time they needed to track down a particular person or item.

A pathetic excuse to mask their weakness, to keep the trade going, but it was the reality, and he had long since learned that everyone has limits, no matter how powerful they might seem to the rest of the world.

All places where they knew people were suffering, illegal practices plenty, but as long as it was not done out in the open or draw attention of the common population, the Ministry had its Aurors stand down. He hated it that it made even a modicum of sense, such that it was standard practice amongst dozens of other states as well.

He was not one to lament the loss of such clear net negatives to society, so he swiftly moved on, “Do we know who did it?”

“NO!” It was Cornelius who practically wailed at that. The man looked like he had seen much better days. He looked haggard and exhausted in a way that implied people had hounded him so much that he had cocooned himself in this room and had called upon every single Ministry employee with High Level Security clearance to create a wall between the people who are undoubtedly hounding him for answers about the destruction.

“No, we don't know who did it, Dumbledore. But we need answers, NOW! If we don’t have anything soon, they will have my head," The last part was whispered in dread, and he had a hunch who this ‘they’ were and thus knew that Cornelius was just being dramatic. Even so, he did not call the Minister of Magic out on it, as he had far bigger fish to fry.

Still, Cornelius did not look good, and from the looks that Amelia was giving him, she had a piece of information that she did not wish to share in front of Cornelius, which alarmed him more. Still, he knew how Cornelius worked, and thus, he smiled and addressed the Minister.

“Why don’t you go take a nap, Cornelius? Don't worry, I am here now. I will have something ready for you by the time you wake up. We don’t want the people to see their Minister in a haggard state, do we?”

The last sentence did it, as all the fight drained out of Cornelius. The thought of maintaining his vain appearance appeared to Cornelius far more than the prospect of rest, which is why Corneluis reluctantly nodded and left the room, heading to his office with his secretary. People in the room looked at him as they too began shuffling out of the room, recognising the hidden order. Now that the people Cornellus had ordered here for no reason were out, he nodded at Bones to begin. The matter must have been truly sensitive, for her to hesitate before she handed him another folder, this one, far thinner.

He opened it, not knowing what to expect, but the moment he did, he barely stopped himself from flinching at the image on the folder.

“Azkaban, or where it used to be anyway,” Amelia told him in an exhausted voice as she slumped in her chair, uncaring of the decorum. She must have been truly exhausted for something like that to happen.

“I already have the people who know of it under Moody’s watch. This, in particular, should not be learned anytime soon. The rest, I give it a few hours before the Daily Prophet is screaming about it. With the ownership structure being what it is, we can’t order them not to print it, as the Minister himself will not allow it.”

He was only half listening to her. Most of his attention was on the picture of the island, or atleast what was left of the island in the pictures, and on the rest of the sites, trying to find some common ground.

“The Unspeakables have already asked for a meeting, and I think they know about it, I don’t know how. They’ve made multiple trips to the attack sites and have come up empty. Cornelius did not want to involve you, hoping that we would be able to come up with something, but as the news of attack after attack came pouring in, he grew desperate and called in everyone, and then you.”

He hummed at her reports as he laid out the photos side by side, to see if he could find anything that the others could not, unlikely as it may be.

One thing was common from all the attacks though, “The attack vector.” He said out loud, as Bones leaned forward in her chair.

Pointing at the photos, he tapped all the Vampire Dens, the Werewolf dens, and even the Black Market, “All three of them were attacked from above, or below. This was a single attack, something that managed to not just punch a hole through an island but also destroy everything around it with extreme heat, leaving behind just molten lava.”

Concerning. Most concerning.

He would have thought this to be the work of muggles, based on the sheer destructiveness, but powerful as they may be, the muggle weapons left behind something. Their missiles exploded, leaving behind deadly chunks, but not lava. Their most destructive weapons, the ones they had used to decimate the magical communities in Japan, certainly held the potential for that, but the Unspeakables had long since gotten access to those weapons and tested them for years.

There was no conceivable reason why the Unspeakables would not warn them of the source of attack, as the use of that weapon would have meant a war that would make all the previous wars children’s squabbles. Also, the area of damage was too narrow, too targeted for that terrible weapon.

No, they might have been used for Azkaban, but certainly not for the other attack sites.

Looking up from the photos, he looked at Amelia, “I assume you have Aurors stationed everywhere?"

“Naturally.”

“Let’s go,” He said, standing up as Amelia followed him. They had only a couple of hours until sunrise, and if they wanted to prevent mass panic so close to the start of the school year of the first generation in decades that hadn’t grown up with the shadow of a Dark Lord hovering over them, they had to get to the bottom of this and have something to placate the public with.

–Ed Hooman–

He sat, slouched in his chair, looking at the vast projected screen in front of him, showing the multiple targets he had in Magical Britain. They were hit by a combination of his drones and mobile weapons platforms, used to do not just individual targeting but also large scale attacks, like the one used to destroy Azkaban.

Though in that case, he had to use three mobile platforms to create an attack large enough to take out the entire island. It was worth it, though.

The Vampire Dens and the Werewolf dens were the first ones to go, though. Surprisingly, Magical Britain was a hotspot for Vampire activity but even more surprising was the fact that not all vampire covens were worthy of being destroyed. No, of the 16 vampire covens he found still active on the Great Isles, about 5 of them were going about their cavities in a manner that could only be called humane.

Willing humans. No mind control. No forced conversions. Paying people for their services, and that included blood. Strict enforcement of rogue players, and punishment was death most of the time. No targeting Minors. No targeting old people. No raiding blood banks.

And more. Those five were in an alliance with each other, which was the only reason they existed, as they were incapable of feeding off attacks from the other, far more bloodthirsty covens on their own, since they were both outnumbered and just did not have the will to do what the other covens were willing to do for strength.

He liked their approach, which is why those five covens were left standing. The other 11? Given one chance to surrender, and then annihilated. Hell, he destroyed 6 covens irrespective of their choice simply because he found the Farms there had children as well.

He planned to make contact with the surviving covens, to make sure that their model was the one that was dominant in all of vampire kind. Maybe he could give them a cloaked place so that they could create a city of their own? Because this isolation was just a stopgap measure. All it succeeded in doing was keep them isolated from the rest of the world, which could be viewed as a positive from the eyes of the rest of the world but it was now up to him, to better this world, and that never came from isolation.

They needed to mingle with the rest of the world, but also needed a place of their own. Just something that he planned on doing long term.

After all, he was going to be judged at the end, whenever that was, and while that sentence came with ominous undertones, he was raised right, and as such, since he had all this power, he was going to use it for the right. At first, he would have been content in taking it slow, built it all in the background, and only interfering here and there instead of the world spanning movements he was planning in the next few years, but that sentence had forced his hand.

For better or for worse, this world was now his responsibility, and well, Mama ain’t raised no quitters, hence the current setup.

His eyes hurt, but he kept an eye on all the activities he had executed successfully in the span of a single night.

On one hand, the smouldering craters that were the vampire covens, the werewolf gathering points, and on the other, a series of people trapped in prisons, that were downright wonderful compared to what they had to bear back in Azkaban. The thought of just nuking that place and being done with the prisoners did briefly cross his mind, but because he trusted Magical Britain’s ability for corruption, he had just relocated every single prisoner.

The warden and the staff had been transported to a magical outpost on the Coast, knocked out but safe. The Dementors had fled instantly, unhurt by the lasers, but he was not that worried about them right now. If they began making a nuisance of themselves, then he might have a problem on his hands but for now, he trusted the wizards in the Ministry to take care of that.

The magical world might have considered them as unkillable existences, but he was built differently. He had something no person in this world had.

Technomancy.

He was a wizard of technology. Capable of so much that it would be considered downright insanity for him to ever risk his physical body ever going out in the open but he knew what lay down that path.

Total isolation.

Sure, he was prepared to remain inside for the next couple of years, inside the floating bunker he had built for himself, but after that? After he had built a proper alliance of the many magical factions on the planet? He could consider going out to mingle.

Isolation was not good for humans, but he planned to push that limit as far as he could.

Taking his eyes off the prisoners that were stashed away in another platform that was embedded deep underground, he looked outside the window, which was just a TV instead of a window, and at the endlessly expanse of darkness outside. With a tap of a button, the view of the window shifted, as if the entire ship was changing course, which it was not, but he had programmed that animation into the system to provide that illusion.

The endlessly expanse of space was then replaced with the magnificent vision of Earth. The dark blue ball of dirt.

This, this was what he had been waiting for. He had been dropped into the setting over a year ago, with meagre resources and savings into the body of an electrician, and had built so much in such a short period of time, but this? This took the cake.

A mobile space station, capable of housing him for years on end without any supply run, completely cloaked, with a network of hidden and open satellites around the planet, allowing him to control his activities on the planet.

After all, he might have been worried about wizards using absurd means like divination, Blood Rituals and what not, had he been on Earth and out in the open, but here? Surrounded by his unique brand of magic and in a location that most wizards could not even fathom of, he was as safe as he could realistically be.

He had the tools. He had the magic. He had the will. He had the plans.

Now, all that was left was to watch the world fall into place. Let the dominoes fall, one by one.

His gaze was torn from the planet to the ping of the notification. He smirked, seeing the entry of one of the most important people on the planet.

Albus Too-Many-Names Dumbledore had come out to play.

The urge to enter Chuuni mode, the edge lord mode, and go out to have fun with Dumbledore by messing with him was high, but he restrained himself. No need to reveal himself. After all, if all things went according to plan, he will have all he wanted without most of the world ever knowing of it.

For that, he just needed some patsy, and after a couple more such strikes, many would fall over themselves to become his spokesperson. After all, even if said power was not their own, just the chance to experience said power was enough for most people on the planet.

Shaking his head, he closed the window after ordering the Ministry spies to lie dormant for the next few days, and then moved on to the next phase of his plan.

After all, the planet consisted of both magicals and non-magicals. Time to get some people in power and scare the f*ck out of them.

Ah, he couldn't wait!
