Recovery Room, Inner Sanctum, Garden

–Magdaran Bael–

Not having any more energy to deal with the chaotic Gremlin that was Vali Lucifer, he just collapsed on the very comfortable Root bed, looking at the ceiling of the Recovery room, hoping for some peace and quiet after that rather surprising experience.

A head popped up in his view, looking down at him with concern.

…Alas, he did not get what he wanted, as Vali poked his cheek with her finger, making him flick his finger at her, making her vanish from his view. Of course, the sound of her “Divide!” not working as she flew through the walls also made him smile as he tried to get his mind back in working order.

It was probably the first time his mind had been this rattled, outside of sparring with Thor anyway. The man hit with the force of a moon behind him, not to mention the scant few times he had been grazed by Mjolnir. That hammer was a literal impossibility that managed to hinder even his own healing abilities, simply because of the trace amounts of Divine Energy it exuded even when it hadn’t made proper contact with his body.

Even going near the Divine Hammer when it was being used in an offensive capacity affected his mind, even now, when he was so much more capable with his power than before. It was a night and day difference, only possible because Thor was there to hammer some sense into his brain, sometimes literally.

Of course, as was customary with Vali and anything he did to get rid of her, it did not work for long, as the girl was back in viewing distance, the same finger headed to his cheek, but this time, it glowed with a subtle yellow glow. Recognising the spell for what it was, he let her use it, as her eyes glazed over for a second, the diagnostic spell feeding her the information about his body.

She stopped back immediately, as he sat upright, the root bed morphing to support his changed seating position seamlessly, “So, what’s the verdict, doc?”

She made a shushing gesture at him, acting as if she was engrossed in the medical data. He knew full well what little she could get from that particular spell, as Vali was never one for learning multiple types of magic of her own volition. Half of the spells she knew, she only knew because Penemue forced her to learn them for her own good.

In Vali’s own words, Why would I ever need a compass spell? I can teleport.

While she was technically correct, that was one of the elementary spells taught to everyone, as that single spell came loaded in with a lot of survival essentials, even for supernatural species.

Either way, this was all just an act, so he rolled his eyes and stood up, the Root Tree Bed retreating back into the floor, tiles replacing the space he had just occupied, returning the Recovery Room back to its ordinary empty aesthetic.

“Aww, no recovery for me?” He flicked his finger at her once more, enjoying her flinching at the fear of being punted out of the Recovery Room once more, despite no magic being used in that move so she was in no risk, especially since she knew she would have to control her flight because if she hurt even one of his plants, let alone the important ones in the Inner Sanctum, then he was entitled to her free labour until the plant or tree was restored to its original state,

And he made sure not to use his powers for that, or at least not right away anyway. He made sure she sweated a bit, at least until her urge for combat overpowered her guilt and she ended up challenging him to a fight anyway, at which point he sent her away and worked on the Garden on his own.

He preferred it that way anyway, but the Girl had somewhat grown on him, like a Fungi, so he took his time to indulge in some fun with her.

As he walked back to his office, his mind going back to the new Concept he read and the effect it had on his brain, he felt Vali follow him as well, her naked intentions easily readable to even the blind. She wanted a spar with him, but unfortunately for her, he was quite preoccupied, so he was about to tell her off, only for her to–

“So, when are we going to meet the Zagan guy again?”

He stumbled in his thoughts, turning back partially to see Vali looking at him with undisguised interest in the Zagan gy, which was fair since they were made to be quite the boogeymen in the history books, a House of Devils who could, at their peak, exert just as much terror as the Bael or even more so, depending on just how many mind games House Zagan wanted to play on the battlefield.

Reports of them using bodies of their enemies to create chimeric creatures capable of enticing and then devouring more of their enemies were common, as was the absurd rage that tactic generated, resulting in many Zagans dying on the battlefield itself, despite the entire House preferring to stay back and let their cannon fodder creations do the fighting itself.

It was their excellent rage baiting abilities that led to multiple High Tier Angels sacrificing them, just so that House Zagan would not exist any longer.

“Interested in seeing what the fuss was all about?” He guessed Vali’s reasoning for meeting the Zagan guy. She eagerly nodded, clearly curious about the ways of the Zagan that made them such terrors on the battlefield. Well, if that was her intention, then he was going to have to disappoint her.

“Well, if you are looking for a fight, then look elsewhere. From what I could find, the guy was very much invested in his research, which was not fighting. He was also a pacifist, so I wouldn’t—”

“Oh, come on. Someone from that House is bound to know how to fight, right?” She interrupted him.

“...Vali, knowing how to fight and wanting to fight are two very different things. You of all people should know that.”

Vali stopped to think of that for a second before deflating with a sigh, “Fine. I won’t bother him for a fight. BUT! I still wanna come. I am curious about his powers.”

He shook his head as they reached his Lab. More specifically, the hospital bed where the Zagan was currently housed, or rather, kept sedated to make—

He leaned back instinctively, as his power surged forth to destroy whatever unholy abomination came through the door of the room where the Zagan was supposed to be sleeping, not up and running with an eldritch growth of sorts growing out of his arm, with spikes and everything.

He heard the Zagan say, his eyes sharp and locked on him, “A Bael?”

Before this could devolve any further, he took a step back, but kept his power up, blocking the entrance, just in case the guy could do something truly absurd like send out a microbe that could turn anyone into a Zombie or something. He did not want Vali to be infected with anything, even if the guy did not have the strength to hurt either one of them.

It was at least good that this whole place was completely sealed off from the rest of his Garden.

“Greetings! I am Magdaran Bael. You have been asleep for….roughly 400 years. Welcome back to the Land of Living!”

The only response to his declaration, something that was supposed to paint him as the friendly party here, was an eldritch abomination to the face, this time with spores being released that tried to eat through his power, only to die instantly.

His eyebrows rose a bit as he realised that the spores were also eating through the magical barriers on the walls of the room, forcing his power to surge forth and cover the entire room, floor included, making the Zagan jump out of terror.

Amused at the reaction, as seeing Devils jump and be surprised at his meticulous control over his power would never get old. Seeing the man calm down a bit at seeing himself not vaporised, he spoke up, hoping to get the man to calm down, “Hey! I was the one who woke you up. Maybe calm down a bit?”

The Zagan calmed down after hearing it, his arm making a disgusting squelching sound as the too many teeth and spikes biomass was absorbed back into his body, leaving behind a normal looking Devil, only with a more panicked look on his face.

Still not trusting the man completely, he pushed Vali behind before taking a step inside his own sphere of Destruction, only to be caught in an attempt at what could only be called an attempted violation of his dignity. Nodding at the paranoia, he stepped out of the sphere, instantly catching onto the howling from Vali, something that was not available inside the sphere, somehow making him want to go back into the sphere with the too many tentacle monster, with the Devil who was all too willing to use it in creative ways.

Where was the pacifist that was promised to him?

Flicking Vali behind him with a middle finger, he heard her grunt in pain but still continue to laugh in between wheezes of pain. He sealed the entire room before walking out, with the hope that a little time spent by himself, in a sphere of Power of Destruction that he could not get out of, would help the Zagan calm down.

After all, him being the Last Zagan, especially with a fully realised bloodline trait, afforded him a lot of patience on his part, especially since he was currently very much harmless.

Only a High Class Devil, no matter the bloodline trait, was never going to harm even the likes of Vali, let alone him.

Speaking of Vali, the girl was stumbling behind him, her hand on her stomach, trying to stave off the pain from laughing too much.

“Maybe I should cut you off?”

“I’m done! I’m done!” He smiled at Vali’s panicked declaration.

Atleast, he had the monopoly on his super Milk.
