Gremory Territory, Underworld.

—?--

Now, when one was told by the ROB that they were going to be reborn into the DxD Universe, the very first thought would most probably be of excitement, as that particular verse was well known for being the fan favourite power fantasy universe with lots of ecchi mixed in.

Then, for the people who could look past the jiggly tits and the giant asses, and the exotic features, the second feeling would be of fear, as the world was only wrapped in an ecchi flavour, but the insides were still that of a deathworld. A world where an ordinary human was valued less than dirt, a world where even the lowest of the low supernatural beings could treat humans like toys and violate them with impunity.

Some people really forgot that the echhi focused verse meant that the atrocities occurring also include the hentai flavour, and that was never pretty to think of.

Which is why, fear was the correct response when one was told that they were going to be reborn into the DxD Universe. Of course, that was the appropriate response only if that was the sole piece of information they had access to.

The ROB, before his fear could turn into a crippling panic attack, also told him that he was going to be born as a Devil.

Now, that abated his fear a bit. Becoming a Devil could be a very good thing or a supremely bad thing, depending on which time period he was born in, and what House he was born in. Even if he was a low class devil, destined to remain at that level for life but he was born in the canon Gremory House? Then, he was set, as even the servants of House Gremory lived far better lives than most humans.

But that was only if he was born after the Great War and under the rule of the New Satans. He had no idea what the Gremory house was like before Sirzechs was born in it.

But even if he was born as a really strong High Class Devil with a good bloodline trait, he could be treated as expendable cannon fodder during the Civil War or some other tumultuous war period for the Underworld, if not by the Devils then by the many people actively at war with them.

Which is why when he was told that he was going to be isekai’d into the DxD Universe, the first thing he did was mourn his past life, something that every single non sociopath person should do, before asking for more details with a little hope in his mind.

After all, from his experience in reading fanfiction, he knew that usually, there was very little chance of a dead soul ever going back to the original world, not without some really tough challenges and having to become Omnipotent anyway, so he had ruled out even asking the ROB, despite his obvious sadness at losing his past life.

….Okay, maybe it was the recentness of everything or maybe it was something the ROB had done at the time, but he didn't really miss his past life as much as he should have, so he had straightway jumped into asking for details from the ROB.

As a normal guy would, his thoughts had jumped straight to the harem potential before his rational mind pulled him back and made the ROB ask the details. And here they were–.

A Devil.

Born sometime after the Great War, before the Civil War.

Born a Gremory.

High Potential.

Intact Memories.

The Devil part was nice, but the before Civil War part? Not so nice. Sure, it was better than the meat grinder that was the Great War, with the ever present threat of Big G himself hunting him down for his future knowledge or some other shit, but it was not as nice as the period that came after Sirzechs and his buddy took over the Underworld and its governance.

The Gremory and High Potential were obviously great things. Even without the Power of Destruction which would be introduced later on to the House of Gremory, the Gremory bloodline alone must be fabulous to birth so many powerful devils. That was before High Potential was added to the mix.

The intact memories portion was really the one that sold him on it, though there was no selling or buying done here. It was a done deal. He was just getting to know the specifics of the deal later on.

The intact memories meant that, even with the wrong time period, he should have some help in navigating the treacherous waters that he was about to face, be it political or in real life with physical combat involved. It helped that many of the prominent faces in the canon timeline were just really old Devils so if he could help some of them out when they were younger, it would help up his chances of survival.

Now, while he was not worried too much about his chances of survival, owing to the final power he had in the list of perks he got as part of the isekai package, he knew that merely surviving was not going to be enough. He needed to thrive and while the last power would certainly help, there were going to be plenty of other Devils with the same trait who died way before canon.

The final power he got was–

Phenex Regeneration[Topped UP]

Yup. He was going to be that kind of protagonist. Someone with the best of two Different Houses. The Gremory bloodline meant that he was going to have really high Demonic Energy reserves as well as control over them, and the Phenex bloodline was going to give him really high regeneration, which will only increase his ability to survive the chaos ahead.

….Or, so he hoped. He really hoped that this particular brand of ROB was not the sadistic kind and give him the worst of both bloodlines, instead of the best traits. The TOPPED UP part of the Phenex Regen also gave him pause but at this point, he had no more time.

He could tell that with absolute certainty. It was certain that he was going to the DxD verse, at a rather chaotic time, as a Devil with both Gremory and Phenex bloodlines and he was going to go now.

No more questions. He felt it in the air, as he thanked the ROB in his mind before his entire being jerked.

He felt his entire being, or was it soul? Whatever it was, he felt it stretch, then compress, then twist before being smushed right back into a ball before it felt he was turned into a dough, only for the sensations to repeat, resulting in a cycle of extremely confusing emotions and sights that he felt his mind blank out. The only thing keeping him conscious and aware of what was happening to him were the assurances that he was going to be reborn as a supernatural being with good powers.

They were not the best, mind you but they were good enough. At that point, he was just nitpicking as he preferred Destruction but that did not mean that he couldn’t do the same or more using just his fire.

His thoughts stuttered to a halt as he felt light at the end of the tunnel. He felt relief flood his being as the stretching, compression and twisting sensations all stopped and all he could feel was a slight pressure on his being from all sides, as he kept his gaze on the light at the end of the tunnel, hearing faint sounds from all sides, as if he was underwater and the people speaking were out of the water.

He remembered something like that happening when he was in the pool. Wait! Pool?

…….Uh-oh.

His bad feelings were proven right when the light at the end of the tunnel suddenly seared into his eyes, provoking a cry from his lips, only it came out in the form of gurgles.

The faint sound from earlier? They were cries, or words. He could hear and differentiate between them now. His eyes were getting real heavy to keep open but before he succumbed to sleep, he just wanted to confirm if he was in the Underworld or not.

Because if this was just some sick, elaborate prank from some ROB, then–

He felt his thoughts stutter to a halt as he saw the bright red hair on every single person’s head, all six of them, looking straight at them.

At the center of all of them, though, was this one pretty boy who looked straight at him with a smile on his face, while everyone else had constipated looks on their faces, for some reason. While it was a very small sample size, all the members of the Gremroy House did indeed have bright red hair, so it was as good a confirmation he could get at this stage, that yes, he was indeed born into the Underworld, into House Gremory.

He couldn’t fathom why their expressions were in such contrast because once he confirmed that he was indeed into the Gremory House, he felt his control over his consciousness slip as he immediately went to sleep.

__xx__The next moment his eyes opened, he found himself looking at the ceiling. Not a bright white ceiling, though, so maybe the hospital aesthetic found in modern human hospitals was not borrowed from the Underworld. It sure felt like it but apparently, it was not.

With that incredibly useless observation done, he went about checking on himself.

…That was unsuccessful. He had no motor control to speak of, no way to speak aside from gurgling and no action aside from peeing and shitting. God, he hoped—Oww! Even thinking of him has this reaction? He scrunched his eyes close as he tried to think of an existence that wouldn’t even spare new born children from the curse that was attached to his name. How petty must Go–he be?

Anyway, he sure hoped that Devil babies and human babies shared the same uncontrollable bedside manner and required frequent care, because if that was the case, then he could not say for sure if he would remain sane by the end of the experience or not.

With nothing else to do, and no way to even tilt his head to check out more of the nursery he was in, he decided to do something he could do, even in this puny body.

See, in all the fanfictions, shitty or awesome it mattered not, he always read that the MC could somehow sense this entirely new sense within them. Something that they hadn’t sensed in their previous life and hence, it would be very easy to sense the difference.

After all, if someone was without magic their entire life, then sensing magic should be very easy, was the logic used by them.

Now, he didn’t know if he was just that useless, but he could not sense shit, not after having spent what little energy he had being a baby on sensing something, but mostly, he just succeeded in feeling nothing but his own heart beat or pulse maybe.

Whatever it was, it was not magic.

After that rather unsuccessful attempt, he went to sleep as apparently, being a Devil abby and a human abby were rather similar in terms of energy.

The next time his eyes opened, it was because someone had just touched him and had lifted him up.

He was still groggy and not fully rested so all he could do was crack one eye open, see the blurry shape clear up to reveal a red haired woman looking at him with a neutral look on her face. One of her hands was holding him up, and the other one was headed towards—

Oh. Ohhh. Ohhhhh.

So, this was the legendary breastfeeding torture that most isekai protagonists were subjected to, for the crime of gaining awareness at the baby stage.

While he did not ask for this, he was here for the ride now and all he could hope was that he would come out of this with his sanity intact.
