End of the World

–Aldric Zagan—

He watched as the last of the seals were burned away the moment the combat force was inside the barrier, and then Trihexa woke up.

His body flinched in a healthy amount of fear even when he was watching from a screen, and he wasn’t even supposed to be fighting that beast. He was sure that anyone worth their weight in terms of power and the sense to use it felt it across the world. It helped that most of them already knew what was about to happen, so they expected it.

He was sure that teacher must have felt it too, and was probably on his way here. Well, time to get some stuff done before his teacher could have time to step in and do something to disrupt his plan.

See, his plan had been simple. Stupid but simple.

Revenge. But not the crass kind that involved killing everyone, without any purpose whatsoever, resulting in some hollow satisfaction that did not last even for moments.

He did not want his teacher to have regrets, and while his teacher certainly was dealing with stuff on his own, he was not doing a good job of it. See, he was of the opinion that the people who hurt Magdaran must be hurt back as well, but not in a straightforward fight or even an underhanded way.

No, the fight had to be meaningful, with some purpose other than Revenge. Revenge as a side dish was served best, in his opinion. So, with that in mind, armed with the massive cache of knowledge from his teacher, he set about doing a couple of things.

Also, who knew that their world was some form of written and recorded entertainment in a different world. And that his teacher was actually from a different world, where no magic existed, as far as the teacher could tell, and that the events from their world, as well as many others, were simply ink on paper, or pixels on a screen.

A fascinating concept, and yet, something that did not have much impact on his decisions, save for showing him an alternate world where his teacher did not exist, and what would have happened then. Curiously, most of what was written there was from before the current time period, but he was sure that the world was different from his, because of the repercussions of most of his teacher’s actions.

Shaking his head, he dismissed those thoughts as he stood up and cracked his neck. Time to get to action. Watching Odin and Ajuka try stuff that could hold up the beast was amusing enough, but it was not going to last. All of them knew it, but they couldn’t just stand by and let the beast devastate the world.

This was going to be patchwork at best. They needed something to help keep the beast away from its always evolving, volatile state for their plan to work. After all, right now, no matter how much damage they did to the best, it was going to heal anyway, and once it did that, then it could not be hurt with the same method twice, or atleast with the same efficiency anymore.

Frankly, there was no winning here. They would never be able to actually kill the beast, and sealing it without keeping it asleep so that its adaptive regeneration does not work was the best shot they had right now. But now that it was awake, the option of simply replacing the seals was also not going to work.

All in all, quite the quagmire for Odin and Ajuka. Two beings who suddenly woke up and decided that sacrificing his teacher’s future was worth it if they could stave off Trihexa’s awakening for another thousand years.

Alas, if only that was the case anymore.

Shaking his head, he summoned his armour, his Genus Loci, as his mind went back to the rainbow root he ate, before focusing on the portal that would lead to the End of the World.

Maybe his teacher was still guiding his actions. Maybe his teacher had seen this outcome come into play. Maybe he was being manipulated into doing this.

But damn if it didn’t feel nice to finally do something he had been hoping to do for years.

What was that one dialogue that talked about differentiating between villains and supervillains?

Ah, right.

“Presentation.” He muttered to himself before waving his hand, adding his own power into the portal mix, giving it a bright green hue, as he looked on the other side of it. Seeing Ajuka and Odin glaring at him, he did feel a slight hint of hesitation, as these were bigwigs who could, up until a few years ago, crush him with a thought, but now? Now they had to look at him with wariness and even a hint of fear.

Not for themselves, or for their lives. No, but fear of what he might do to their current operation.

Stepping through, he waved his hands and sat down in a chair, gesturing for them to go on. “Go on. Don’t wait on my account. Your work seems rather important.”

“What do you want, brat?” Odin growled out, making his smile widen at finally getting under the skin of the main precog of the operation. Man, he had come to hate precogs with a passion. No, not all precogs, but precogs who thought they knew everything, and they knew best.

“Nothing much,” He said, putting his hand on the side of his head, leaning on the chair beneath him, looking utterly relaxed while they were trying to stave off the End of the World.

“You are here for something,” Ajuka remarked naturally, his gaze sliding back to the amalgamation of Kankara Formula and some Norse mental magic to create this type of Union magic that was acting as the central command unit of the fight happening behind the seals.

Azazel was currently in some kind of deep trance, probably unaware of the outside world; otherwise, he would have had a much more animated response to his presence here.

“Bingo! Three points to Hufflepuff!” He pointed his finger at Ajuka, waggling it, but the Devil only gave him a confused look. Ah, the man did not get the reference. Shame. The memory dump given to him was really vast and interesting. He could just get lost in those memories for days at a time and still not be satisfied. The sheer amount of entertainment packed in them.

“Anyway, I heard that you guys had a problem. I assume you need all the help you can get?”

That was the moment Azazel was snapped out of his trance by one of his staff, who blearily looked around before his gaze locked onto him, and the Fallen Angel instinctively slipped into a combat stance, just like the last time they had met.

The difference was that back then, he was a measly High Class Devil, and Azazel was, well, Azazel. Now, their roles were entirely different, something that Azazel realised, which is probably why he lowered his arms.

He waved at the Grigori head, “Hi! Still as harmless as the one you met back in the Garden, which is no longer there, I suppose. Anyway, now that the gang’s all assembled here- well, save for Vali, but I suppose all of you should do- let’s get started.”

“What do you want?” Azazel’s worry was clear. “You should know that doing anything right now–”

“Please,” he waved the man’s concerns off, “I am not here to do that. In fact, I am here to do the exact opposite. After all, I would not want this world to end as well.”

He heard Ajuka shift slightly the moment he uttered the words this world, and realised then and there just why these old monsters were not to be fucked with. The next words that came out of Ajuka’s mouth only cemented his theory.

“Magdaran is not in this world, not in this universe,” Ajuka muttered to himself, something that Odin realised soon after, judging by his wide eyes.

“So, that’s why I couldn't see them,” Odin whispered to himself, all the while he stood there, enjoying the show.

Odin then looked up at him. “How?”

He shrugged, “Hell if I know. He just did it. I don’t know the specifics. Also, enough about that. Now, let’s come to the topic at hand. Have either of you heard of something called Ragnarok?”

All three of them remained silent at his rhetorical question. Tough Crowd.

“Now, Ragnarok is the prophesied end of Asgard, by whose hands? I do not know, nor do I care. What I can do is redirect all that energy into something else. I can use that energy to power something that will halt even Trihexa.”

“How?!” Odin practically shouted, the shared Kankara Formula flickering a bit as he just smiled and replied.

His hand waved in the air, creating a direct line of contact to–

“Ygdrassil.” Odin breathed out, color leaving his face.

He nodded. “Yup. As it turns out, I have quite the strong claim over Trees of all things. I wonder why. Anyway, despite its nature, that right there is a Tree, and my powers seem to work on it. I know, total nonsense, but it is what it is.”

“What is your plan?”

He shrugged, and instead of verbally answering, just aimed at the bastardised Kankara Formula and, after concentrating for a few seconds, sent in a bolt of his magic, bright green, packed with enough information that explaining the whole plan would have taken days.

Fortunately, the big brainy individuals who also had the bright idea to make an enemy out of Magdaran were smart enough to read through the plan and realise why it was the best option right now. It just blew their own plan out of the water, to the point that even Odin would have to accept it.

Odin’s and Ajuka’s eyes widened at the same time, comprehending the plan, before Odin turned towards him. “This is why you burned the seals.”

“What seals?” he shrugged, not admitting anything.

See, with the timeline being as tight as it was, they really did not have any options. If given a few more decades, Ajuka, along with cooperation from heaven, might have been able to redirect the flow of all that faith energy right into the seals and let the problem sit for a few thousand years more.

Alas, they did not have time anymore, and as such, his option was far better than their own, which was some chance of failure. Failure in his plan would just mean that Trihexa was asleep and sealed off for a shorter period of time than expected.

Even in the worst case scenario, he would be buying the world a lot of time, which is why, when Odin turned towards him, his face stormy, he knew.

He knew he had won.

He floated right outside the force field erected by the Hindu Gods, feeling the intensity of the thing being so close to it. If he really tried to force it, he might be able to get inside with his life, and this was a barrier big enough to hold that beast.

They really were the undisputed top tier, weren’t they?

“So, you put the entire world into danger, and for what? Revenge?” Azazel asked him, having been similarly weary when he realised what the plan was, and what it would entail.

He gave the man an innocent smile of his own. “What revenge? I am just helping someone save the world, as the MC should.”

What? Azazel gave him a confused look, but he had moved on to the sights of people fighting for their lives against the beast.

Trihexa was a monster. Too many heads, too many limbs, and far too mindless to be a proper sentient being. Sure, it had instincts, but no planning as far as he could see, which is probably why the God of the Bible was able to seal it in the first place.

Shaking his head, he replied to Azazel, “Some things are not meant to be understood, Azazel. I have understood that much. Anyway, let’s get started. The World will not wait for anyone, right?”

Azazel just gave him a look as he flew back to the massive portal he’d set up, using top tier materials, some of which did not even exist in this world, and were made by his teacher. Some he’d stolen, some he’d borrowed for something else and never returned, and some he’d found lying around in the bin that was supposed to be discarded.

He had come prepared before even setting foot in this world, even before he had become a Super Devil. The extra power only helped accelerate his plans, otherwise, he was going to do this either way.

He was sure his teacher wouldn't really mind all of this. Hopefully.
