YOOOOOO we are finally checking out some older NCT 127 albums and today we're listening to The 1st mini album! 🎉

I was not expecting this album to have this kind of sound but as always my boys came with the bops and the bangers! 💚

Hope you Enjoy!

Madrih

hell yes i've been waiting for this 💚

Oh I hope Bassbot/Run back 2 u is in your deep dive playlist bc that song is so iconic, dating back into their SMRookies days. And yup winwin does the acrobatics

Yes I’m going through everything so I’ll eventually hit it all. If it’s on an album I’ll hit it for sure. If it’s a single I’ll that too either over on the channel or if it doesn’t have a MV I’ll listen to a lyric video ☺️💕

Candy Z

For context: the reason why Firetruck isn't as well loved is bc at the time, the only things we heard from them (officially) were the 7th sense and Without you. 7th sense was massively iconic and sophisticated and since Firetruck was kind of gimmicky + the music video was sort of cookie cutter and used the tiring overuse of white ppl in kpop MVs for no particular reason that was popular in previous generations (lol) + the line distribution was godawful esp ffor ppl excited for yuta, winwin, and haechan to debut. The production is so top tier and the strong catchy bassline sort of became their signature sound from then on so that keeps it in the conversation

Bassbot is a predebut dance video w/ johnny, hansol, taeyong, yuta, ten, and jaehyun! (actually ignore my comment about firetruck, THIS was the start of nct's signature strong bass lines) and run back 2 u is in the regular album I think, it's basically the full song and it SLAPS. So excited to see ur reaction when you do get to it!!

Taylor Smith

To give some benefit of the doubt to the color coded lyrics, in Korean they structure sentences differently than us. For instance, instead of saying "we walked to the park" it would be, "to the park, we walked". That's why it gets a bit tricky with translating lyrics in english that are split between 2 members and highlighting who sings what in a way that makes sense to us english speakers. They could of course be completely wrong as well a lot of them post these videos 2 seconds after the song is out lol

Candy Z

Oh I remember listening to wake up + another world RELIGIOUSLY when this first came out, back when 127 played around a lot more with house music. And some background about mad city: mark and ty first performed it during their predebut smrookies concerts, which included other covers and solo/unit stages by the rookies at the time. Some predebut songs incl. the ones in the smrookies concert eventually made it to their albums (e.g. ty and doyoung's "switch off" became what we know now as "light bulb). Also to answer your question: switch was one of the songs they performed there; it was a predebut smrookies song so that's why all the rookies were in the video and doyoung's voice is on the track This was actually so genius and unique of SM at the time, when all other companies were making survival shows to promote their trainees (e.g. YG with WIN/Mix & Match), SM was simply showing off their trainees' talent with well-produced content without making fans stress about their faves getting eliminated, but I digress. Anyways, mad city was like a response to all the absolute nonsensical hate that TY in particular was getting at the time when he was an smrookie (e.g. that he was just a pretty face, also there was this unfounded controversy that he had to apologize for even though he didn't actually do it... but I forget if that was before or after mad city), so the "why are they doubting TY" was so cathartic to hear

Oh I love their mini albums! I'm partial to the 3rd because it has 0 Mile and Sun & Moon. It took them a bit to find their signature neo sound and concepts but they still gave us bops while trying to get there. About the lyric videos, honestly just do what you want because as you said, somebody will complain either way. You'll never satisfy everyone and will only hurt yourself trying. BUT the Once Again lyric video was correct because it was Yuta AND Haechan on that part of the song. Haechan is naturally higher in voice but also raised more in the final mix. If you watch their live stages of this you can hear Yuta MUCH better (plus my goodness is the choreo cute for it). Oh and Switch is 127 plus the SR15B rookies (Doyoung, Johnny, Ten, the Dreamies) so that's why they're all there 😊. Excited for the next one!

Shalla

I love this mini, such a solid debut and so many fun songs. You probably did react to a live stage of Mad City, it was in their first concert and it's A LOT so I definitely recommend a re-watch on that even though you might not survive it (if you react to it, cool, if not and watch it in your off time, also cool). Switch is 127 + SR15 (Johnny, Doyoung, Ten, Jeno, Jaemin, Jisung, and Hansol [never debuted in NCT, left SM]) I don't really have a dog in the lyric video vs not fight, I think some songs the lyrics are more important than others (Mad City being a lyrically important one) but either way is fine. You can't please everyone all the time, don't drive yourself crazy trying 💗

AleksBh

I'm excited for the rest of albums. One of my all time favorites is in Cherry Bomb.

Valeria Florez

Omg thank you for this reaction! i don't listen to this album that often): but when i do is so fun and i feel so energetic. 'Mad City' goood the performance for that song its insaneee, definitely its in my top along with 'Paradise' and 'Switch'

Markhyuck Paradise

OMG THIS ALBUM! I remember when i used to play mad city nonstop bc it was so good like they are really just mad 🤧 the live performance of this is a MUST WATCH 😤 anyway thank you for this reaction 🥰💚🤍

CrispyPotato

I think the issue you were having was the lyric videos were lighting up both Haechan and Yuta in those parts because they were singing the same line. But Haechan's voice in the mix was higher so you could barely hear Yuta also singing the harmony of those lines. Also for Switch, I know you saw the MV on YouTube so I know you're aware it was a predebut song. That's why Doyoung is in it. I'm not really sure why they threw it on the 127 album because it's not just 127 on it, but that's what they did. It was a SMROOKIES song they for some reason put on that album.

eve_ss

"Guess that's why rumors around the world are saying that *Mark is absolutely fully capable* 🔥💪🏻💚

Jazzysanc

So, thought I had heard everything from NCT 127, but I was wrong. This album def had a club vibe to it. Loved how Tae and Mark ate on Mad City. Paradise is one of my favs also! Great to see the evolution from the beginning to the end. Keep it going!

Melissa Malcav

The fact that Nct try experimental music is so clear in this album, there's a song for everybody so you would like at least one. It's great to see all the changes they had in every aspect, the evolution of their voices and styles from then till now. Thank you for the reaction.

I also want to add on the Yuta-Haechan once again pre-chorus they changed up the mix of the lead of the first one (Haechan louder) and Yuta on the second one! It’s more understandable on their live performance of the song!

jayt 48

Fun fact Caitlyn, it's true that Yuta & Haechan sang this part together! Hahaha 12:52

Stephanie

I love this little mini. It’s also fascinating to me hearing how they did vocal arrangements pre Doyoung, since we all know Doyoung became such a huge part of their sound starting with Limitless.

Berivan

Woa, it‘s so fun to go through these again!! Thank you for your fun reaction as always🫶🏽 By the way.. idk if you‘ve thought about doing it, but how about watching „the origin“ concert in full length? (The japan one, bc haechan had an injury in the seoul one) Of course after you‘ve caught up with the albums. Because all these songs have a performance and it‘s sooo fun! I always get goosebumps with „wake up“ for example, so cool! However you gonna do it (be it reaction or not), you‘re gonna enjoy it!

Wonderland

thank you i love this vdo too much,

Makenna Majus

When I tell you I gasped😱 I can’t believe you got to this!! I am literally SO excited to watch! I know people rush you to get to things, but honestly waiting for a while and then getting it unexpectedly just made my day! Thank you for this and thank you in advance for all future reactions!💚💚

Makenna Majus

I can’t wait for you to experience their other albums in the future!!

H Almu

Pls react to shinee’s don’t call me album !! 🤍

✧

taeyong and mark have always been the most magical duo!!!! they wrote mad city during predebut and even performed it as smrookies too. there was a lot of (negative) talk about sm rappers and taeyong and mark had a lot to prove which is why you can hear the anger and passion in the song. first mad city, then the himalayas and now onto the next 🥺 also for paradise, you probably didnt hear a lot of the same vocals during the live stage because they remixed it a lot for the link and only kept the original beat for the letters. the rest of the song was remixed to be upbeat so im really glad you finally got to hear this beautiful song in its original form

OH and you were right about most of the songs being designed for a live performance esp wake up which is their like dance song for the origin tour. i hope sometime later on you'll get the chance to watch the origin (in japan) because they do perform a lot of these songs :)

vb

So much NCT content, thank you Caitlin!

vb

Please react to NCT's Whiplash live performance if you haven't seen it yet

Atikah

Atikah

Cosmical

JKTPOPFAN

It's so nice to go down memory lane! Do you think you'll ever react to their sm rookies era content? Many of the ongoing references and jokes are still made to this day LOL!

Cami Vilches Alvarez

I love this!! I’m totally here for nct 127 music/reactions!

"Firetruck" dance practice is still one of my faves. The old live performances of these songs are so good! Actually, there is choreo for "Once Again," and I think the lyric video for that song is correct. Haechan and Yuta were singing together, so it highlighted both of their names. You REALLY need to see the whole concert for NCT 127 The Origin. It's SOOOO Good! "Mad City" is THE, legendary, iconic song for the haters, especially for TY who, from the beginning (we're talking even predebut), has had people talking crap about him (thus Mark's lyric "Why are they doubting TY?). Markyong need to rap more! They might truly be the best rap duo!

Aigil Obañana

Omg im so late..but anyways so happy that ur finally getting into nct pass albums..Once Again was the song always played on their NCTLIFE EPISODE..and yeah ur right its very summer vibe..u can hear it once u get into their NCTLIFE SHOW starting from NCTLIFE Seoul…where Winwin and Kun first appearance..

Aigil Obañana

By the way Caitlin Paradise they sing it during The Link Concert..but i dont think they sing it in US con..

liz

so excited for ur 127 discography journey omg!! thank uu Caitlin <3

Rose C

This album in particular sounds amazing live! Do you think the live album for "NCT 127: The Origin Tour" is something you might get to during the discography deep dives? If not, either that album or the video of their first tour would be a fun thing to check out at some point!! The setlist was amazing!!!

Temami

mad city still gives me goosebumps

Annie Joy De Quiroz

Hope you can watch Mad City live perf in their 1st concert, it was so lit! 🔥🥵

Gemma O'Hanlon

@21:00 - Sweet girl, you're never going to please everyone. There is always going to be people that prefer things one way, and others that prefer it another. Do it the way that YOU want to do it, the way YOU prefer. It's your journey, we (Bubbles) are just passengers on your trip. Much love ❤️

Ani Umar

i know i m super late but i remember watching the origin tour concert on YT and loved the jungle gym they used for Wake Up the World ...and the dance break was great!!!

Newwiee Thipoom

The part in once again when u taught its haechan only, yuta layered that part thats why u taugh its haechan only and they coloring part haechan amd yuta there

Diana

12:52 😓😅 it’s both the pictures, they highlighted Haechan and yuta, yuta is deeper in the back. You picked the correct video, it’s good

Diana

Sorry it was so long ago 😂 thanks for the reply😘 love ya girl

Sam Ui

8:24 I stared at this longer than I expected. It's the first time I actually took the time and see everyone on this shot. Mark in the front. TY laying on the ground feet on the wall. Winwin against the wall. Jaehyun lying on his stomach feet up. Taeil near the door. Haechan sitting near the wall. I think Yuta is also sitting down against the wall except, the guy in white (pinning our girl against the wall) covered him. Just.....a random observation. 😆 Firetruck is my ish too cause I fell in love with the song the first time I heard it. I'm not even a party type of girl. I guess I like what I hear (Firetruck) cause not many idols does that. The BGM (production) is also really cool. That's one of the things I like about NCT's songs. The production is just.....something. I either feel really full just by the music production itself or it makes me want more.
