Heya all,

I typically use weekends to edit in addition to working on chapters (they'll be out tomorrow, I've been pretty exhausted from school this week).

One of the things I was looking back at is the beginning of Eldritch Bestie. For the most part, I'm pretty happy with it. However, I'm wondering if Sylph lacks a bit of agency. I don't want her to exist purely to compliment Damien, and as I mentally review what she's done, I'm not sure if she seems to stand on her own enough.

What are your thoughts? I'm thinking about going back and adding in some stuff to make her a little more independent (not removing that they do a lot together, but instead adding in a few personal goals & making her lead more conversations instead of follow Damien)

What are you planning on doing for her? I think that plays into whether or not it is needed. I feel like she fits the crazy strong rogueish character well.

Sorry, for the multi-comments, reply to nested comments on phone doesnt work at all. I think having her lead convos is a good idea but I dont think her leading fights is, unless it's her teaching Damien. Since she is the rogue, she shouldn't be in the middle of the fights much.

I kinda agree with you, my suggestion would be that you remove the part where she tells Damien her backstory and instead add a few scenes where she struggles with her past, maybe a trauma or two and have Damien slowly pry her past out of her. That could work really well with the romance, in that those feelings lead to her slowly opening up. After establishing their relationship you could then give her an arc where she finds closure with her past (maybe by bringing one of her former tormentors to justice). Afterwards you can treat Damien and Sylph as a Duo when it comes to character development.

Unless Sylph's connection with corruption becomes important to the plot in a more significant way, she can just compliment Damien with a little bit more emphasis on being a better physical fighter.
